Hello :) I'm not a disney bride but I do have a sister who's getting married next year and because my parents are going away on a world trip for the next year, we're having the shower next Sunday. And I need some advice. I'm my sister's maid of honor, she's not having any bridesmaids and my mom told me that I have to give a speech or toast at the shower. I haven't seen this done at any of the showers I've been to:confused3 . I'm not that comfortable with public speaking. I did just take an acting class so I feel a little bit more comfortable speaking in front of people, but I'm not that fond of it. Is this necessary for the shower?
Thanks!

I wouldn't think so! I was my sister's MOH and I did not give a speech at her shower!! I dont think anyone missed it either.

I did give a speech for the wedding though! I'm so glad I did!! I am NOT fond of public speaking either! I'm shy and hate talking in front of a large group of people, but I built up the courage, I practiced a lot before the wedding, and I'm so glad to have done it! My speech had everyone laughing, crying and everything in between!!!

But I def dont think its necessary for a shower.

cosi, thanks! I did mention to my mom that we would save it for the wedding. Which is when I thought the speeches and toasts were done?

If your not comfortable with it then don't do it,it isn't nessacary.

The only time I saw someone give a speech was at a baby shower and that was only one out of the many showers I have been to.

My MOH's didn't make any speeches or toasts...............I don't think its neccesary....:confused3

I agree with the other girls - I've never seen a MOH give a speech at a bridal shower. While it would be a nice touch if you gave one, I don't think its necessary, nor do I think anyone would miss it if you don't do it.

Have fun at the shower!

Maybe your mom wants you to give one because she's going to be away for so long and will miss her daughters?

Why not! It is not traditional but I'm sure your mom and sister would love it. It can be short and heartfelt, and even can be funny alluding to your parents' world trip and who on earth has a shower that far out? :lmao:

Thanks for the advice, guys :) If my mom is really set on me doing one, it'll just be a short toast. I think that would be appropriate. I spoke to my sister last night and she said the same thing my co workers said "but it's my job to say something." So we'll see :)
