bridal gown shopping etiquette?

Its completley up to your DD....

However, I didn't ask my MIL along, wouldn't have taken her even if my fiancee had asked. That was a special time for my mom and I and sister (MOH). Same for all 4 of my sisters...

Besides who wants to deal with 2 mothers opinions :)

I did the same thing! Then for accessories, I wound up going wiht my future SIL to another bridal shop.

The three weddings I was in where I was the Maid of Honor only the bride and myself went shopping for the wedding gown, no mothers at all went.

It shouldn't be a zoo of people, unless you're doing a Filene's Basement sale. Too many people sounding off would be bad.

Really, just a couple of people who will give you their opinions and tell the bride if she looks bad. I took my only bridesmaid who'd tell me the truth. My MOH has some odd taste in clothes. My mother is deceased so she couldn't go. But she would have be the perfect person--she'd told me many times over the years what was wrong with my outfits!;)

I actually went alone the very first time and scouted out some options and such. I knew I wanted certain sleeves, not too low cut,...

On the actual try-on day, I took both my mother and future MIL. They were no help -- they cried and said I looked beautiful no matter what I tried on. :p So I was able to choose the one I liked the best.

They did talk me into wearing a hat. 1985 -- hats were in style for that one year. It looks a little funny in pictures, but that's OK.

My flowers were huge like Princess Diana's. I never realized how much of the dress was covered.

Same. I also agree with those who said you should not take too many people. When I was dress shopping I saw groups of 8 people +. Too many opinions.

Also I really thought this was a time for my mom and myself. But if she is really close to her MIL it might be a nice touch but I don't think she is under any obligation to do so.

MIL is still complaining 12 years later that I didn't take her to look for wedding dresses...however, I still would not have taken her if I did it again. I shopped by meyself and then narrowed it down to 3 dresses, which I showed to my mom.

I went with my mom and sis. My mil came with me for my shoes and a fitting
