Bribing the Checkin CM....

Naaa! "Abe" needs the King bed in the PRESIDENTIAL suite !;)

WDW CM's are the ONLY employees I've ever encountered on vacations who ACTUALLY refuse tips!!! I've tried numerous times to tip bell services when transferring luggage from 1 resort to another, or when leaving it for a later flight, only to be politely refused. I've had great luck getting exact room requests by being polite, and asking nicely to please keep looking if they first say nothing is available. Many times, what I've faxed in has already been met, and the room has been "blocked" for us. As I tell my 7th grade students, "You get more flies with honey!";)

There are many restaurants in New York City, Miami, LA, etc.... that a little $ gets you a good table or a table w/out the wait. Why not disney? If its against policy, fine. But, there is nothing appropo about it. Its done all the time in other places. But, what may be acceptable one place may not be at another. You just have to figure out what is appropriate for the place you are visiting.

I used to work front desk at a hotel, and no - I don't think it will work. First, we are not allowed to accept times - and the front desk is monitored by video. I don't think a Cast Member is going to risk loosing their job for your $20 upgrade.
Not that we haven't ALL thought about it :)
The best way to get the best service is to be NICE, UPBEAT, and so HAPPY to be at Disney that you can't stand it! You would be surprised how many people who check-in are very grumpy and don't listen to a word you say (although, it's understandable - traveling all day, over-excited kids, airline mess-ups, waiting in line...) I always LOVED when people were excited just to finally be at Disney (again or for the first time) - I always tried my best to get them the best room available and meet all their requests. I'm not saying that Disney doesn't already try to meet your requests, but you know what I mean. :) I've had people so excited that they've video taped their check-in, although I don't recommend it - it's kinda creepy. :rotfl:

snwarf,

You wouldn't happen to be a member of LVA would you?

( Las Vegas Advisor) Thats the only place I've heard that talked about. Vegas is my Disney. But this time we are going to the real one! Yay!!

Robyn (LVA member) And excited for my trip to WDW!

lol - actually yes and I read a lot at lvol.com

I was actually scared to go back to this thread and read it because I thought people were going to beat me up for suggesting such a thing! ROFL!!!

By the way, Air Force Wife.....I am one also! Love those TDY's to NELLIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am actually one of those meek people who will eat something I did not order just so I did not have to deal with the confrontation! (so to be sure I would not offer $$ at checkin)!

However, when I check in at the Yacht Club in December I will give them my prettiest smile and say sweetly, "Please ma'am, won't you give me concierge lagoon view?" Do you hear my eyelashes batting????

Just kidding, I'll be happy with my lagoon view room even if I have to crane my neck to see any water!!!

the $20 trick does work in Vegas. We got great views & my whole group was by each other-which had never happened before.

Would I try it at disney-no. But we are taking Apples & Oranges.

Kae
