Brett Farve's crash and burn

The latest news about the masseuses puts him deeper in the hole.

Do you think he has forever tarnished his legacy?
AFAIC, his "legacy" had been ruined for years. This recent stuff has just added "skank" to the "quitter" and "traitor". I'm just glad it's not all coming out on the Packer's watch.

I guess court of opinion has already found him guilty and sentenced him?

Two women with dollar sign$ in their eyes ACCUSE him of something on the heels of the Jenn Sterger fiasco? No one finds this a co-inky-dink? And just as with Jenn Sterger there is no proof. He was fined for not playing nice with the NFL gods concerning the inquiry.

Find me proof and I'll gladly take back my statement.

"The NFL stated that it "could not conclude" that Favre had violated the personal conduct policy, and that there was not sufficient evidence to establish if Favre had sent the photos."

I find it highly amusing. I found it highly amusing when he first was staying well past his downhill prime. I don't keep up much at all with sports, but there's something to be said when an old man is still struggling to find a team and is still playing a game best left to the younger set in their prime and none of his peers from almost 20 years ago are still playing. There is something to be said for knowing when to bow out and move on.

When I was in middle school, I watched the last year Dallas was really good because a boy I had a crush on loved the Cowboys. It's how things work, you know? I kept hearing how Brett Favre was so much better than Aikman.

So now - all this just makes that little girl inside me giggle with glee. The adult thinks "Boy, does that guy need some therapy!"

I don't know.

I was wondering about that. If they really wanted to know, wouldn't they summon the phone records? Wasn't it a civil lawsuit as well? I can't recall. But the phone records would've been the definitive route.

I don't care about what any athlete does off of the field. His texts and photos don't change any of his stats and that is really all that matters as far as his NFL legacy is concerned. You hear people complaining about intrusions into our lives, like the TSA scanners, but those same people stick their noses in celebrity's business all the time. This is between Brett, his family, and the people he texted and none of our business.

I think people the follow celebrity gossip must lead very boring lives and have to find excitement thorough the exploits of total strangers. It's kind of sad really.

If anything will tarnish his NFL legacy it will be his poor seasons at the end of his career but a lot of athletes stick around a little too long.

As for Vick, he committed a crime and was punished. The matter is done so move on. People dwell on the past way too much.

:thumbsup2 Well put!

I don't know. I think most Brett fans can and will separate his exploits on the field from his exploits off the field (such as they are) and will always see him as one of the greatest quarterbacks in the game. Five ... ten years from now, no one will be talking about Brett's text messages. They'll be talking about his passing record or his number of consecutive starts. The texting stuff is a blip that will be forgotten as soon as the next scandal comes along.

I mean, come on. Michael Vick is starting and playing some pretty smokin' football. How many times have you heard a commentator remind us that Michael Vick is a convicted felon who did jail time for dog fighting? The fans have all but forgotten Vick's past, and his problems were eons bigger than Brett's.

History will remember Brett Favre for his skill on the football field, not for his stupidity off of it.

Do I think he stayed past his prime - yes. I think he should have been done after last season. However, I also know that when you truly love something as much as it seems he loves the game, and it's been all you have known for 20+ years....it has to be so hard to be done. And to not go out "on top". I know that I would have a hard time giving up something I was so passionate about.

And, really...besides his wife, his kids, and himself....nobody should care one iota about what goes on in his life off the field. Do I think he is innocent...heck no. But I would bet that his wife and him already have had it out about all this.

I think this has hurt Farve more than say, Vick, Tiger Woods, or even Ben Roethlisberger, because it happened at the end of his career.

If all his so called scandal would have happened say maybe 10-12 years ago, he would have went on to have this great career and poof. "most people" forget.

I feel that Vick, Woods and Roethlisberger will one day get their endorsements back. I' m not saying its right, just saying thats how sports work. The guys sell stuff who make the companies money.

Look at Ray Lewis for example. He has the commercial out for Old Spice now.

As I am not a member of Brett Farve or Tiger Woods' family, their escapades outside of their marriages does not affect their image to me as an ATHLETE. Actually it upholds my perception of athletes and their faithfulness lol. As for Michael Vick, I'm glad he is doing well. Most felons don't get that chance. So no I dont really care but I must admit Tiger's voicemail had me:rotfl2:. I need him to do better lol.

:)

Maybe he's not harmed his legacy but he's severely dimished his earning capacity. No endorsements for you Brett!!!

Vick is already endorsing a pretty big local car dealer.

His nonsense doesn't affect me or even really interest me except that I keep marveling at how goofy he is. I think that he will be considered a great football player though.

What a putz.... Another Tiger Woods. I always feel so bad for the wives & families; how embarrasing to have your husband & father with such a reputation.

except Tiger has quite a few years to go that will allow golf fans to "forget" his scandal. Brett does not. He's old and in professional football that is not a good thing.

but pretty much only because he's playing good football and if he leads the eagles any where close to super bowl territory he will start getting more and more endorsements. Unfortunately I think we tend to remember the "last" thing done.

Sadly, I don't think this is really going to affect his long-term legacy. His own behavior has turned him into a cocktail party joke and there's a slight chance that he may have to wait a year or two before being inducted into the hall of fame, but aside from that there are really no practical consequences for him.

We have short memories for bad behavior. While I don't exactly oppose Vick playing, given that he's got a unique skill he can use to make money and stay off public assistance (which is an actual possibility given the amount of debt he's in and the fact that the guy is not well known as a brain trust) I'm a bit disenchanted with how quickly people seemed to line up to laud him and his "redemption". Isn't it a little soon?

You want real proof how short our memories our for bad behavior? There was a headline on MSN Sports for the last two days that read "Sorry Ladies, Steelers QB Reportedly Off The Market"

"Sorry Ladies"??? Are you serious???? :scared1:
