Bret Michaels suffers brain hemmorrhage

I keep hearing this mentioned--what happened?

Also--what is the difference between a hemorraghe, anyeurism (sp?) and a stroke?

Stroke (cerebrovascular accident or CVA) can be from either a hemorrhage (bleeding from an aneurysm, which is a weak spot/balloon area in a blood vessel) or from a blockage (either from plaque build up or a blood clot that is too big to get through a narrow part of a blood vessel.) Bleeding/hemorrhaging from being hit on the head would usually be called a traumatic brain injury (TBI) or a closed head injury.

I amy be off on this, but I think the taping of the Apprentice finale is/was to happen about this time, that may be why Trump is on the radar. I think it was said that whatever taping was to occur is being held off for now out of respect, and that the focus is on Brets recovery, the taping will take place eventually. Again, heard it on the radio so not sure of vaildity, but makes sense.

According to Trump Jr., all the episodes of the show (except the Finale, which is shown live the night it airs,) were filmed last fall. The finale isn't for a few more weeks as there are still about 5 people to be voted off.

Could his condition be related to the Tony Awards incident? He did hit his head pretty hard!
Dr. Gupta, from CNN, said it is' unlikely as that happened a year ago. Something would have happened sooner. But, you never know.

This was such a freakish-type accident that if it DOES end badly, then it was meant to be and Bret was meant to die at this time. I believe freak accidents happen for a reason (ala Natasha Richardson, Sonny Bono, etc.). When God calls you home, you just go.

Not to turn this all religious, (which isn't allowed,) I personally hate when people say "It's meant to be," as it takes out Free Will and there is a randomness to life. We play the roulette wheel of Life here, and stuff just happens and we try to make sense out of it." BUT, I also respect your beliefs and your right to say that. :goodvibes

That is very admirable of you. Most WOULD try to find out and that makes you a special person in my book!
I hope he gets better.

Thank you!:goodvibes I don't now if it makes me a special person, but I definitely don't want to hound the people I know who are more in the inner circle. They have not been posting on Facebook lately, and I think it is purposely because they don't want to be faced with any Bret questions, but I am sure they are getting the real story that isn't being told to the press.

Could his condition be related to the Tony Awards incident? He did hit his head pretty hard!

See Post #87 on the previous page for an explanation courtesy of my nurse friend on how the Tony Awards incident could have been a contributing factor to the hemorrhage now, in a roundabout way (that makes a lot of sense). This is not certain, however. It's just a really good educated guess.

Radaronline said his condition has been upgraded from CRITICAL TO STABLE! :cool1:

I'm not sure who to believe. Entertainment Online says his condition is getting worse and they are the only ones saying that. Now, Radaronline is saying his condition is being upgraded to stable and they are the only ones saying that. Both reports coming out hours after one another.

I don't think I believe either of the reports right now.

One of my friends just found this online about 20 minutes ago - not sure where. Maybe the ET website?:confused3 In any case, IF it is true, it's not good.

A source close to the family of the 47-year-old Poison frontman and "Celebrity Apprentice" contestant tells ET that Bret Michaels will soon be undergoing surgery to relieve swelling around his brain. His condition is said to be deteriorating following a massive hemorrhage he suffered last Thursday

I had never even consider this until Donald Trump brought this up. There are so many conflicting reports about his condition. I hope he pulls through. He seems to be a good guy.

MSNBC is reporting that he is speaking slowly, moving arms, and stable.

Like you said, take it for what it's worth - but MSNBC is hopefully pretty reliable compared to some of the more "gossip-y" sites

The latest update from CNN:

Medical tests show Bret Michaels has suffered a setback in his recovery from a brain hemorrhage, according to a statement posted on his official website Tuesday.

Despite the development, "doctors remain hopeful for a full recovery," the statement said.

The rock singer and reality TV star suffered a massive brain hemorrhage and was hospitalized Friday.

"Test results indicate a set back in Bret Michaels' condition, a side effect from the brain hemorrhage called hyponatremia, a lack of sodium in the body which leads to seizures," said the statement posted by road manager Janna Elias.

Michaels "is responding well to tests and treatments," she said.

"Even though today was a minor set back Doctors remain hopeful for a full recovery and plan to release more specific information next Monday," Elias wrote.

It's amazing how many conflicting reports are out there, I really hope he is doing better. How could they not find the source of the bleeding after so many days or has that been located?

The Tony awards clip appears to me that he first falls on his left side, arm and then back onto his head....that it wasn't a blunt hit to the head but that he walked into the set. Maybe i'm wrong and it just looks that way to me.

Because sometimes, the source of the bleed is so small that it heals itself before they able to find it. I'm not sure if that's the case here, but that does happen.

Letter from Pete...Share.. Today at 8:00pm
Hey everyone. Much like Janna, I rarely speak out about Bret other than my own personal facebook comments. But I wanted to reach out to all of you and let you know that we who are closest to Bret, are overwhelmed with the amount of love and well wishes he is receiving. I know that everyone is waiting for some OFFICIAL news, however we just cant give any right now. This is a time for family, a time for healing and a time for love. It is out of respect first and foremost for his precious daughters, their mother and his immediate family that none of us say anything. The press has a way of taking information and doing what they want with it. At a critical time, we who care deepest for him, refuse to offer any information that can be delivered incorrectly. Imagine if your children or parents read something even slightly not true about you or your health on the internet. Its not fun. What I can tell you is that when I was invited into Bret’s world, over 5 years ago, I was introduced to a new level of strength, and loyalty. So much that I had to rethink my whole life and how I do things. I thought I was a hard worker. I didn't understand that a man 10 years older than me, battling a life long war with Juvenile Diabetes, more fame than most, and more money than he knows what to do with, could possibly get up everyday with more drive and passion than myself. I was wrong! I didn't understand what it meant to be a loyal friend. The kind that would do anything you ever needed without even asking why, what, who or where. Bret is the kind of guy that wakes up everyday and treats it like it is his first, and may be his last. He is full of passion, energy and love. But most of all, he is a survivor. Against the odds of a critical music industry, or battling a crippling disease, over and over again Bret has come out on top and ahead of the game. I personally expect nothing less from him in this situation.

With all that being said, all Bret has ever really wanted to give is the gift of music. All he has ever asked for is the gift of music. We have been hard at work on the upcoming CUSTOM BUILT record. To keep my own sanity in this last week, I dove heavy into the music. One of my personal favorites in a track called WASTED TIME. It is full of pure BRET MICHAELS emotion and heart. While not the final mix, I took some of the vocal we have laid down on the bus during the tour and comped together a piece of NEW MUSIC for you all. I believe all the fans will agree with me that this teaser is an amazing song. I hope you all use it, like I have this week, to remind you how amazing my great friend Bret is. So I hacked into the site and slammed it into the beginning of the Web Page Audio. In fact you should be hearing it right now as you read this.

Please visit BretMichaels.com to hear the audio [Due to traffic it may take a little while to load!]

Cheers to all
Much love to Bret

Because sometimes, the source of the bleed is so small that it heals itself before they able to find it. I'm not sure if that's the case here, but that does happen.

When my mother's aneurysm started to bleed, it was very difficult. It was located in an area of the brain that made operating very dangerous. Unfortunately, they decided to wait to see if it would seal itself. It did not. She died two days after the initial bleed.

Not every area of the brain is operable.

Sad news.. I'll be praying that he makes a full recovery..:(

Today's update--I guess this is a good update.

http://www.cnn.com/2010/SHOWBIZ/04/28/bret.michaels.talking.ppl/index.html?hpt=T2

In the past five days, Bret Michaels was rushed to a hospital after suffering a brain hemorrhage, underwent tests while remaining in critical but stable condition and found out he had a side effect that could lead to seizures.

But there's a good chance the rocker won't remember any of it, says one expert.

"Most people [who suffer this type of brain hemorrhage] don't remember most of their hospitalization -- they have no recollection," Dr. Melvin Field, director of the Florida Hospital Neuroscience Institute, tells PEOPLE.

Still, Michaels is conscious, talking very slowly and in good spirits, his rep tells PEOPLE.

Doctors usually "give patients some sedation so they don't have pain, and that can kind of make it so they don't remember too much," says Field, adding that having blood in the brain can also cause some confusion.

Michaels will remain under the care of doctors, who discovered the Celebrity Apprentice contestant has a side-effect called hyponatremia, a lack of sodium in blood that can cause seizures. His rep says he has not had any seizures.

Field says the hyponatremia shouldn't be considered a setback. "It's relatively common [in these cases]," he says. "I don't think it's going to cause permanent problems. It's almost like a small road-bump -- like having a fever."

While Field says the rocker, 47, who suffered a massive subarachnoid hemorrhage on April 22, will most likely have "a pretty good headache" during his recovery and be in the hospital three to four weeks, he shouldn't have any other significant side effects.

"If he came into the hospital awake and talking with a bad headache, there is a very good possibility he'll leave the hospital the way he came," says Field. "He should be fine."
