Bret Michaels suffers brain hemmorrhage

Bret Michaels remains in critical condition at an undisclosed location, this according to a statement released today on the rocker's Facebook page.

Michael was rushed to the hospital late Thursday night after suffering a massive hemorrhage near his brain stem.

A statement on his FB says, "We are hopeful that further tests will locate the source of the bleeding, which has still not been located. As we all know Bret is a fighter and we are hopeful that once all is complete the slurred speech, blurred vision and dizziness, etc. will be eliminated and all functions will return to normal."

This does not sound good at all. The reason I say that is because my dad died from the same thing, same location in his brain. It was in a place that could not be operated on because it would cause even more brain damage. Having said that, I still pray that he recovers.

I'm watching Celebrity Apprentice with tears in my eyes he is so full of life and fun. I really hope things aren't as dire as they sound. Belive it or not, 3 people I know had brain aneurysms within a month of each other last year. They all survived, 1 is fine, 1 has some ongoing issues but he should make a pretty full recovery and 1 is in bad shape..relearning to walk and talk and a totally different personality.

This poor man has had a terrible year. First he has that accident at the Tony Awards them the appendix, then the scare with his daughter and now this!! I hope that he recovers and is able to spend lots more time with his daughters to see them grow. I get teary when I hear the song he wrote for his daughter Raine....soooo sad.

I could not believe what I just heard on the news. It seems that he is awake and talking. That's incredible. I pray that he fully recovers.

There are lots of people in "critical" condition who are awake and talking. "Grave" condition would be a different story. Now, because Bret is talking, that doesn't mean that he is chatting up a storm, having regular conversations. Having a brain bleed - especially one for which the source cannot be located - is very, very serious. He has probably been trying to speak normal sentences and is having a lot of trouble trying to put words together. My nurse friend (who worked in a neurocardiac unit) was telling me that it sounded as if it was good news that he had "made it this long," but the thing that concerned her (my friend) is the fact that they cannot locate the source of the bleed, despite several days of tests being run. She said that part of it is not good news, as it may just mean that the source is somewhere deep in the brain that cannot be operated on for fear of worse damage. The longer it goes without being found, the more damage could be done.

My nurse friend also says that, most likely, when Bret got bonked on the head last year at the Tony Awards, there was something that got rattled around in his head that went undetected until he had his recent appendectomy and was put on anticoagulants (blood thinners), which is not uncommon for people who are on bed rest for several days. If and when he took the blood thinners, the bleed or the "something" that probably got rattled in his head was revealed, and then he had the hemhorrage. This makes sense.

So, basically, what I am saying is...Bret is not out of the woods yet, by any means.

that makes sense, about the previous injury to the head and the blood thinners etc....I mean, given the timing of the hemhorrage it is hard to ignore the possible tie in with the apendectomy. It has to eb beyond frustrating for him, his family etc that the source of bleeding has not been located yet.

Sherry I looked at your travel report and found it very interesting and I will go back through it wheever I have more time, did you use to work for him or were you dating Brett?? Curious about that.

We were friends and I worked for him/Poison. My friend Mandy and I were both working for them and assisting their publicist at that time. We received platinum albums for our efforts. I went to Disneyland with Bret. My friend Mandy and I were at all of the parties they had at their house (which were not many, surprisingly) or after their concerts. We went to movies and out to eat and to run errands - things like that. Bret was actually dating the girl he wrote "Every Rose Has Its Thorn" about - Trasy - at that time.

My MIL had a stroke back in 2000. She could talk in the initial days but it didn't make much sense. She was bad enough that the doctors wanted permission to take out part of her skull to give her brain room.

She survived and underwent a lot of therapy. However she had a stroke on her right side so her left side is very weak. If you put something in front of her left side her eyes will see it but her brain doesn't recognize it.

She recovered enough to spend 2 years in assisted living and another year living with us. However she has now declined so much that she is in a nursing home.

Her doctor said frequently stroke victims improve to a degree but then backslide.

I just read this on Us Weekly. I didn't connect the injury at the awards with this. It makes sense, though. I am not a huge Bret fan, but by most accounts he is a good, intelligent guy. I hope he comes through it. He seems like one of the very few hair metal band guys who survived the 90's with a decent head on his shoulder.

While I could see DT caring about what happens to Bret, I cannot fathom why he would become the spokesman on TMZ and The Today Show, etc. other than to boost ratings for The Apprentice. Someone's pain should not turn into someone else's fortune.

I hope Bret does well and gets through this and then slaps Trump upside his head for exploiting his situation. Though maybe Bret will see this differently and he'll like the publicity he's getting for his own ventures.

I couldn't agree more. Donald Trump needs to shut his big fat mouth. It is not his place to even be talking about it other than a generic statement wishing him well. Ughh, one more reason to hate Trump.

I agree with you. It doesn't bother me at all if Trump is speaking about Bret's condition. I want to hear whatever info I can get about Bret's situation, and, let's face it - Janna, his friend/publicist/assistant/business partner, etc., is going to give a watered-down verson of what really may be going on, for public consumption. They won't want to say if anything really bad is happening just yet, even if it is. Trump may be inclined to give a more realistic view of what is happening with Bret's situation, because he is not related to him and he doesn't need to 'spin' it in a certain light. Trump is not saying all that much anyway, from what I have seen. All he is saying is that it is very, very serious and Bret's in trouble, etc. It's basically what we already could guess. He probably got that info from the family and friends directly, so I would rather know it than not know it. I don't care who the messenger is - I just want the true story.

I don't think Bret has thought about the publicity he is getting for his own ventures - if he can even do much thinking at all right now, that is. And if the Trumps get extra publicity for "Celebrity Apprentice" or whatever out of this, again, I don't care - I just want the true, honest, realistic, non-watered-down-for-the-public, version of what is happening with Bret's health, from whomever is willing to share it.
