This is all new to me. However, I thinking having a place to type it out will hold me accountable.

My goal is doing the 1/2 marathon in January of '07. DH will do it with me and then he'll go on to do the Goofy the next day. Somehow my challenge to do the 1/2 seems bigger. Keith did the whole marathon this year and seems to look a challenge in the face and not get panicked! I, however, panic!

So, by reading these threads, running books, and magazines, I hope to gain some knowledge about running and getting into shape therefore changing my panic to confidence.

This really is about a life style change. One that will get me off the couch and truly living again. I would love to take up tennis again and need to lose some weight and gain some strength to do that. Do I dare say I weigh in at 150 and would love to be around 135? Well, I guess I just did!

Today is really my first day. I'll be doing a run/walk. I got a book at the library for beginning runners. I'll run for 2 min. and walk for 2 and do that 7 times. Sounds easy but running for 2 minutes will actually be tough for me. That is how out of shape I am!

Wish me luck! I am on my way!!! :moped:

First run/walk went quite well! I think I actually feel "better" than when I went out there. How could that be?? I borrowed my nephew's ipod and wow! does listening to music ever make it easier and the time passes so quickly.

I had 1/2 of a bagel with Lt. cream cheese 30 minutes before w/r. Gonna try to eat normal foods and cut my portions in half. Trying to stay aware of true hunger vs. head hunger. I lost weight several years back just doing this with no exercise. But at 40yo (41 on 2/12), exercise needs to be incorporated. The dr. said so....

Day#2...I walked on the treadmill at my mom's for 30 minutes. Actually I ran about 15 mins. of the time. I was very surprised at how much easier it is to run on a treadmill than outside.
The eating is going well.

Today I did treadmill and ran almost the full mile. It had to be a quick "run" because of work but I worked it in and felt good while doing it. I think I should buy a treadmill!

Good Luck! Thats an incredible goal and I hope you meet it!

I think I got the same running book you did. I did it last summer. I got up to 15 mins running 1 walking 15 mins running. Unfortunately I finally decided it just wasnt for me. I kept hurting my feet! I ended up spraining my left foot twice and getting a stress fracture in my right so i decided my karma wasnt there. The plan in the book really works tho I think. I was surprised since i had literally never run before that the 1 minute increments would work as fast as they did. Good luck! :bounce:

Thanks, lindalinda! The best part of this is that I am not doing it alone--DH is with me every step of the way. But he's an experienced runner so right now my 1 minute here and 1 might there seem so lame to me!! However, progress is being made. :)

Today I did the treadmill for 2 miles (this is week#2). I ran and walked. It took me almost 17 mins per mile. I won't complain as I wasn't even sure I could go 2 miles. Having music to walk/run to sure helps a lot.

I also bought a Garmin that was on sale at Amazon. I figured it I don't use it, Keith will.

Awesome progress! :cheer2: I am not a runner and never have been, but when I saw the WDW half marathon I considered it. I am still considering it, but I will probably chicken out. I wanted DH to commit to doing it with me, but he just kind of laughs :confused3 just because we have never run before doesn't mean that we can't start right?
Good Luck! :cheer2: Maybe I'll reconsider and see you there :) .

Leaving for a bit warmer weather tomorrow and hope to get in some outside walk/runs.

Brenda!
My dh and I will be run/walking the Disney '07 1/2 too! You guys sound a lot like us. Except that this will be a first for both of us. It's great to have someone who is right there with you and offers such great support isn't it? We're so lucky!!! Keep posting in your journal. I'd love to keep up with your progress through this year. Good luck! pixiedust:

Thanks Dena and Michelle. I'm running outside more these days. Still don't run with Keith though. He's way ahead of me!!!

P. Michelle, it is so awesome to see you here!! I need to catch up with you.
