breastfeeding in disney restaurants?

Disney is pretty good about it....unless you are not discreet.I did see a woman open her shirt and just free both sisters for all the world to see....She literally had her shirt off to BF.of course a Cm asked her to cover up or move to the babycenter( she was right on a bench near the adventureland bridge).I have seen many women Bf in the restaurants too, nobody bats an eye.

I did it!!! Go for it. I never got any funny looks at all. Just some moms giving me the "awww I remember those days" look.

That would be me, nowadays! I didn't need to NIP at WDW since my kids were older, but I certainly would've if we had gone earlier. I love seeing other women NIP - all part of normalizing BF, imho. :goodvibes

We went to Disney last year when our daughter was almost 2.5 and our son was just 9 weeks old. My wife was obviously nursing him all the time at that age. One night she was nursing him as we were walking out of the Magic Kingdom during the fireworks. A cast member at the gate said, "Aw! Someone was hungry, huh?" My wife smiled and nodded her head. As we passed by the cast member started clapping and said, "Good job Mom! Way to go!" Definitely a positive experience!

I nursed my children and always tried to avoid doing it in public, because of all of the stares I would get and snide remarks. Surprisingly, the majority of them came from other women. When we were at WDW in March, my DD was 15 months old and still nursing and I had no choice but to nurse her in public a few times and I never had a single glance my way. I was surprised. I say feed your baby whenever you need to. It's hard not to feel uncomfortable at times if people are staring at you, but you are doing what is best for your baby, and I hope you have as good of an experience as others have shared.

I was about to reply to this.....and then I noticed I already had, like a year ago. This is an old one, but a good one. ;)

Anyway, I'll say it again.....

Disney is very nursing friendly. You won't have any problems and I doubt anyone will even pay a bit of attention. In general, the whole world is more nursing friendly that it was a decade or so ago....thank goodness! You'll see lots of moms nursing at Disney. As I said, my sister and I have nursed all over the world.....rides, shows, buses, boats, benches, restaurants......everywhere EXCEPT the baby care centers. (They're very nice, we just never seemed to be near one when somebody needed to nurse.) So, yea.....nurse away anywhere you happen to be.

And, as I stated earlier, for the record....the rights of nursing mothers are actually protected in Florida and many other states. It's illegal to ask a nursing mother to move, cover up, etc. (To clarify...There are NO states where it's illegal to nurse in public. But, only some states have legislation that actively protects the rights of nursing moms. Florida happens to be one of them. Yay, Florida!)

I have not nursed at WDW - and was never comfortable nursing in public. But I thought I'd pipe in that a few of the resturants can be very crowded - like the buffet one's. At one of them we sat in the center of the room and people were constantly moving around our table - servers, guests, characters. It didn't feel like there was enough room to sit and eat with out getting bumped, and people really didn't care to go around the table. I can't imagine trying to add in the space between you and the table to nurse with that crazyness. You might want to request a table against the wall.

I have nursed my daughter several times at WDW from the time she was 5 months on. This Saturday will be another time and she will be 13 months.

The only time I had any problems (and I didn't hear the comments) was when we were having supper at Moracco. Hubby, baby, friend, and I were there. Baby got hungry so I proceeded to feed her. My daughter likes for everyone to see what she is doing, so she always pulls off a cover up, hooter hider, etc. Well the table next to us had 2 women and one of them made a comment that I shouldn't be doing that in public with everyone else eating and watching. The other lady said my daughter had every right to eat when and where she needed to or wanted to and that she applauded me for breastfeeding my child. She told her friend that she did not have to look at me and stare that she could watch the entetainment. She explained that because the food didn't come from a bottle, but came from me, it made no difference to the child. She told her friend to quit being such a butt and suck it up and get off of her high horse.

I nursed my daughter on POC and IASW, also nursed her during A Bugs life and a few other areas. The Baby Centers are great if it is hot outside and you are looking for a quite area to nurse. They don't have the distractions if you have an older child to nurse.

I agree women should BF anywhere anytime that works for them. I do also think though that it is not needed to bare both breasts at the same time as they are not both being used at the same time. This seems a little over the top and indecent in our squimish america. I do not know how something like this is considered in light of the law either. I loved nursing my son, who was adopted, (discussed on a thread a year or two ago). I used to wonder what people at the mall might think as he was not the same color as me and there I was NIP on the bench in the mall. Oh well, I was just thrilled to have him and then to get to feed him was even better.

I agree that it's perfectly acceptable to nurse anytime and anywhere in the "world."

Anyone have any experience nursing on a Disney Cruise? We're taking a 3 night in March and I'm sure I'll still be nursing my DD.

I wouldn't give two figs what anyone else "thinks" about my BF in public...who cares what looks they make. You are covered by the law and "they" can go make all the faces they want...but it carries no weight with me.:thumbsup2 Go and enjoy yourselves at Disney and do what you need to do for your precious little one! :goodvibes

yup! :thumbsup2

We nursed all over 'the world' :yay:

Only issue I had feeding in the restaurants was getting comfortable, it was a bit of a struggle in Coral Reef, not a lot of room between my flabby stomach, baby and table and cause we were in a booth you couldn't move the chair or table.

I am waiting for the day someone says something to me about feeding in public, I have all sorts of retorts to come back with but to date, never had anyone say anything.

It was great to sit down and just relax people watching gave me an excuse just to sit.

I have nursed both of mine everywhere, including pretty much everywhere in WDW. The only time I got dirty looks was from some obviously ignorant woman at Flying Fish. My solution to this was to rip off the blanket and give her the full show:rotfl: My kid is EATING. It's not porno. Too bad, too sad if someone has a problem with it. If you have a right to be someplace, you have a right to nurse in that place. The law says so!

FWIW, this is the ONLY time I've ever gotten a dirty look while nursing, and I nursed my older DD in public until 24 months. Our nursing rates in this country are abysmal, and I think that if more woman were comfortable with it then maybe this could be reversed. I'm no lactavist, but I'm fully comfortable with NIP and I hope that my doing so has helped other women to see that nursing is natural and normal!

There was one meal (counter service) where I was nursing him, and an older gentleman kept staring at me- what almost seemed like a glare. I tried to brush it off, but of course could feel the stares. Then, he slowly walked toward me, as I thought "Oh, no, here it comes, the confrontation...". He gently put his hand on my shoulder and leaned in and said "Enjoy this time, it goes too quickly-- seems like yesterday that mine were that size, and now I am here with their children." He then patted my shoulder and walked on.

THat is so sweet!!!

Overall Disney is breastfeeding friendly!! I never had a problem nursing there. Of course, I can't remember specificaly if I nursed in a restaurant or not.

My only issue with nursing at Disney when my dd was a baby was that whenever I went to find a nice, shady, quiet spot to nurse, it always ended up being a smoking area!!!!

I've had the same experience. I've nursed in every portion of Disney--downtown, outside of rides, eating areas, etc. I have found that finding a place outside is usually where smokers stop, too.

I've nursed two babies at Disney several different times over the last 4 years. Never any problems! I think I've only used the baby care center once, as it is not very convenient. I've nursed in restaurants too. I just usually cover up with a small blanket.

There are lots of shaded, out of the way places at Disney to nurse. You would not think that would be true of a crowded place like Disney, but I always seem to find a good place.

I agree feed your munchkin where you need to. Just make sure you are both comfortable. The Baby centers are nice when you can get to one. I have to admit I think it only happened once or twice for me. They are cool and dark and have great rockers and the staff is so helpful. Enjoy your trip.

Came upon thread and just wondered why the OP posted? My point being that if she thought it was OKAY she would have just done it rather than ask/seek permission from others. Maybe looking for support???
Personally, I find it inappropriate to BF in any food establishment while at a dining table.
NO, I am not against BF, did it myself. However I was always prepared, pumped and did what I had to do, to not infringe on others, which is what I think it is, as others may not want to "see" a mom BF'ing while they eat their meal.
Just my opinion, apparently differs from many and thats okay too! Once again, I am not against BF, think it is wonderful, healthy, bonding experience but think modesty prevails in eating establishments, regardless of the law someone quoted. To each his, oops, HER own, LOL!
