Breaking the news

My coworker surprised her 7 yr old DGD with a trip to WDW just a few weeks ago. She knew Grannie was coming to visit for the weekend and [she thought] they were going to take a day trip to a local park or the aquarium. They walked into her room very early, flipped on the lights, woke her up, and asked "if you could go anywhere in the world today where would you go?" She said "I want to go to the aquarium!" "What if you could go to DW instead?", they said. Grannie told me her DGD jumped out of bed, ran to the bathroom, brushed her teeth and hair and was dressed in two minutes. The aquarium was promptly forgotten.

BTW, I asked Grannie how they were able to hide suitcases and packing chores from DGD. She said her daughter told DGD that they were cleaning out closets thats why the suitcases were out. As far as packing, her daughter would just take a few pieces of clothes [at a time] from the laundry and put them right into the suitcase.

You are all so good at surprising your kids! I guess I'm just not as creative as all of you....we sat down to watch tv after dinner and put on the Disney world DVD without them knowing. of course, they wanted to know why they were watching it so we told them that's where we were going! you can get the DVD free from Disney (takes 6 weeks to get).
This time (3 years later) we were at the dinner table and the hubby and I asked where they wanted to go for vacation...a cruise or Disney world? Dumb question huh? my 10 year old twins are hyped up already and we're not going until December! my 16 year old is being a trouper about going.

We have suprised our kids twice with a trip to Disney. The first time was JUne of 2002. WE live 11 hours from disney and we told the kids that we were going to Florida. We usually go to Pensacola, but told them we were going to a different area and it would take a long time. We stopped and stayed the night about 90 min from Disney. We tolfd them the next morning it would only take a couple of hours to get where we were going. They never asked a question--my daughter went right back to sleep ane my son watched tv or played with his game boy--they were 4 and 7 at the time. Anyway my sone never saw a sign--would always look up after we passed it. WE finally told them as we were driving through the Welcome to Disney sign---my son was so shocked that when the guard to the resort asked his name he forgot what it was.
The second trip was this past MAy---we decided on Mememorial day to go to Disney the next day---we were planning on going to Florida anyway--we just did n't tell the kids until a while past our usual stop--and only when they began to ask questions. Needless to say I don't think that we will get to so that again

We are going in Dec. and the kids are helping us plan.

Here is what I am going to do. We are leaving the day the kids christmas break starts. I have the Mickey wake up call on my computer. After having the kids luggage and the truck packed I am going to wake them up. Have mickey waffles for breakfast and play the wake up call on the computer, which is in the dinning room. I have their christmas gifts wrapped in disney paper, small gifts I have collected for them. I am also going to have a disney backpack for each of them in the truck with stuff to do in the car and disney dollars. I cannot wait.
