Breaking NEWS PHOTO SESSIONS!!!!!! :-)

That's funny that you were told not to wear white...Barry at GF said white was a good color. But we're going with varying shades of darker blue. And jeans. We'll be there in December, and with the shoot at 4 I'm sure it'll be cool enough for jeans.

I love my jeans! :thumbsup2:thumbsup2 I look for any excuse to wear them since my work dress code would not allow for them

I wasn't told directly not to wear white. Someone posted, on another thread I think, that this was the advice given to them when they booked their shoot. It wasn't mentioned to me when I booked mine, but it seems the odd person has been told this. It may depend also on the time of day. Standing in the glaring sun in white may not be the best idea and I do get this, but I am hoping that a 4.45 pm timeslot in mid October will not pose too much of a problem - just hoping not to have too much afternoon glare.

This is a family trip with me and my daughter, my Mom, two brothers, SIL and niece . We're having our photoshoot at the Poly 9/27. I did one previously at the Grand Floridian and they came out great. I wanted matching polos but in the end couldn't find anything at Disney that was the same color in womens, mens and childrens. My then husband wore maroon, my daughter and I wore pink. It was beautiful. GF was nice because there were so many different places for pictures! But I wanted something different this time.

My CM advised me to wear something bright at the poly. She said that a lot of the backgrounds are brown and dark colors can blend into the scenery a bit. I've been told white isn't a good color a few times. It reflects light and sometimes in the pictures it all blends together.

But you know what? I'm sure it's FINE to wear whatever color you want! We choose Red as a theme this time. I figured the boys would want marooon and the girls would choose various colors of red and pink for the girls. Well, seems like everyone wants to wear pink now! Too funny, lol.

I was worried about the "no white" advice I heard earlier, as we were planning on white for the girls and blue for the guys.

The very nice CM (I think it was Michelle?) I called told me that it depends on the time of day and the place you are having pictures done, but it really didn't matter, as most of the pictures turn out great. She said the main thing is do not wear patterns, especially if they are all busy and different, because it is visually distracting. But she added that there was a picture done of a family all in "paint splatter" shirts that was gorgeous!

I wonder if, as pp said, white is worse in the mid-afternoon sun? We are having our done at the BC at 9am, and she said white would be fine, and that it is a popular color. Now I am thinking white pants for myself and a royal blue shirt. DS and DH will have blue polo shirts and khaki shorts. (although DS wants to wear a Hawaiian shirt - sheesh. I'll have to "forget" to bring it)

Would the blues at the BC "blend in?"

I would have thought that blue and white or red and white would be perfect for the nautical theme at BC. But then I don't know a whole lot about photography or I would be doing the pics myself

Just scheduled me and hubby's photo session the other day.

I'm excited, and I hate my picture taken. :woohoo:

Just a note from an amateur-plus photographer . . . white is generally NOT a good choice for portraits--it is hard to see the shadows and highlights, ie. it can look washed out. Everyone in white standing close together can easily look like they are wearing one great big shirt :goodvibes (There are whole books on How To Take A Brides Picture, it is that difficult :confused3)

That said, if the people aren't close-up and are spread out , it is usually OK (for example, a family beach scene with everyone in white-tees and jeans is a classic).

So do you think if it is just me and my 8 year old DD and we have white tops on and blue jeans that it might be okay? Much as I would like us to use the ones I bought, it is still cheaper to buy 2 shirts than to 'ruin' a photo session, if you know what I mean. It will be about 5 pm in mid October. I don't know where the sun would be relative to where they are taking photos so it's hard to guage.

I've gone through pages and pages of this thread. I've seen other people ask the question, but haven't seen any answers or photos. How Christmassy are the photos taken in December? I guess I'm hoping for some Christmas themed, but most not. Anyone know?

I'd like to know more about this also. We have a session in December at GF and though I'd like some kind of Christmasy, I'd like some not so much.:goodvibesTIA

We did the photoshoot twice, once when it was free with the cd and once when you had to copay $25. Whne the price went up we stopped becuase it was barely worth the $25 IMO. We did saratoga springs and The grand. Timing was important at the grand since it was getting dark and we were rushed around to catch the natural light and when we got in,we had to stay clear of a wedding. Ther was no consideration given to our 2 and 4 YO and thier little legs and it was a bit of a disappoitment once we saw the photos. I do better myself with a minitripod or asking a guest.

We also wanted a few pic's that we were told we could not have, apparently they had predetermined photo spots.

We did this a couple years agoand things are ever changing so maybe they have improved and it may be right for you.

If you have any questions I'll domy best to answer.
Enjoy your trip!

I haven't gotten caught up on this thread since we left for the World on September 2, so someone might have already posted this - but we did a Photo Session on September 9 and it no longer includes the print package. You get the CD + a Photopass Card, so if you buy Photopass you can add borders, etc. The ones on the CD are "plain" - our CM did make some black and white/crop, etc.

I wish they offered sessions at BWI. Any word as to whether they'll offer this location at some point?

We were staying at BWV, and wanted our pictures there too - so we chose the BC and asked the the BW appear in the background on some of the pictures.

I hope they add the BW, it would make for some WONDERFUL pictures!

I got to thinking, maybe yours didn't include prints because it was a free one won as a prize? I just read wehre someone called to make an appointment and still quoted the package with prints. so that got me wondering.

That could be...I asked about the prints, the CM said, "We used to do that, but not anymore." so that could mean JUST for the prize winners and I understood her wrong. I hope so!

BTW, everyone, I won the 20 minute session from Welcome Home Wednesday (DVC event). They gave away two!

I do hope that those who have to pay $99 still get the prints. When I called to make our appointment about 10 days ago the CM on the phone was explaining the two packages and asked if I had an idea which one I was likely to take. When we get there I will call to confirm and if they are only doing the CD I won't take it. I just think that if you are getting the PP CD, the photo session CD and then buying the odd ride photos it is easy to spend over $300 just on pics - most of which you have to pay to print yourself. I am all for the CDs but I do want my prints with my resort session. ;)

When I called on September 3 for September 18, they didn't offer or say anything about the print package for the 20 or 40 minute session with CD. They only said about prints with the shorter session and no CD.

I think I will call them tonight and ask them to clarify exactly what I am paying for. If it comes with only the CD for $99 I am going to ask for a discount as this is not what was 'sold' to me at the time I made the booking, otherwise I will consider canceling. I do think a photosession for $99 is still a good deal, but keeping in mind it is not a professional session and really the luck of the draw as to how experienced and creative your photographer has to be, I am not sure I am prepared to gamble not only the money (no obligation to buy if you're not happy), but the time it will cost out of our day if we don't take it.

Anyway, if I call them, I will post the response on here for the benefit of everyone.

Oh and please excuse my manners. I got carried away on my little rant and actually had good intentions of saying to you

Welcome to the DIS!! :goodvibes
