Breaking News: DCA's Little Mermaid ride opening next year!

Wow that would be great if they could get it done so soon!!!

I've been so excited about it!

Ok, well, I think this may be total false alarm and here's why:

The first link which is the one that was released today by WDWinfo announcing that the ride will be done in early 2009 names it's news source as the LA Times Brady McDonald article (which is very old, btw). Brady says that Golden Dreams will be taken down in early 2009 -- not that the Mermaid ride will be done in early 2009. Brady's article sites the MiceChat's Project Tracker for expected completion dates, which still clearly say:

Voyage of the Little Mermaid and Mermaid Lagoon (Includes Removal of Golden Dreams)
Project Status: To begin early 2009
Open Date: Spring/Summer 2011

Sorry to disappoint, but I think WDWinfo just completely screwed up on this one.

Which brings me to my point. God willing, sometime in early 2009, Whoopi should be permanently and irrevocably extracted from Disney’s California Adventure in favor of the Voyage of the Little Mermaid dark ride.
That quote is from the L.A. Times article and says that Golden Dreams will be closing in early 2009. Somehow the 2nd article turned that Golden Dreams is closing in early 2009 into TLM is opening in early 2009. I'll be stunned if TLM opens anywhere near 2009.

Maybe the plan is for Disney to have a major ride opening for summer 2009, which means it could open anytime up until late September.

If they broke ground on the Whoopi theater in January and went into a heavy construction cycle for 6 or 7 months I suppose it is possible but remember, this is a $100 million dollar dark ride so it won't be easy. I imagine also that they would actually start building the ride before the land was available so they could move faster once the theater was leveled.

It is possible and would be great but seemingly unlikely it would be ready a year from now.

I hope Whoopi attends the last screening at the theater. People would trip probably not thinking it was her but a CM or something.
