What nonsense. All she had to do is put it in her checked luggage.

And who carries around several hundred dollars worth of LOTION when travelling anyway?

PS - The correct term is flight attendant, not stewardess.

I believe she had just purchased it. You are correct about flight attendant, but hey, I am at work and my mind is not totally devoted to correct terminology, so please forgive my error.

This from Delta's website this morning.......wonder if they will adopt any of these for domestic flights.

Travel Notice for UK Departures
Last Updated: August 10, 2006, 5am EDT

Following this morning's police action, security at all UK airports has been increased and additional security measures have been put in place for all flights. Delta continues to operate its flights from the UK to the US, although customers may experience delays due to revised check-in requirements issued by the UK's Department for Transportation.

New Security Requirements
All cabin baggage must be processed as hold baggage and carried in the hold of passenger aircraft departing UK airports

Passengers may only take the following items through the airport security search point, in a single (ideally transparent) plastic carrier bag:

Pocket size wallets and pocket size purses plus contents (for example money, credit cards, identity cards etc (not handbags))
Travel documents essential for the journey (for example passports and travel tickets)
Prescription medicines and medical items sufficient and essential for the flight (eg diabetic kit), except in liquid form unless verified as authentic
Spectacles and sunglasses, without cases
Contact lens holders, without bottles of solution
For those travelling with an infant: baby food, milk (the contents of each bottle must be tasted by the accompanying passenger) and sanitary items sufficient and essential for the flight (nappies, wipes, creams and nappy disposal bags)
Female sanitary items sufficient and essential for the flight, if unboxed (eg tampons, pads, towels and wipes)
Tissues (unboxed) and/or handkerchiefs
Keys (but no electrical key fobs)
All passengers must be hand searched, and their footwear and all the items they are carrying must be x-ray screened. Pushchairs and walking aids must be x-ray screened, and only airport-provided wheelchairs may pass through the screening point.

In addition to the above, all passengers boarding flights to the USA and all the items they are carrying, including those acquired after the central screening point, must be subjected to secondary search at the boarding gate. Any liquids discovered must be removed from the passenger.

for the record, here's what the Brits are being told from their office of security: (Notice, not even a book is allowed on the flights.)

Hand luggage
All cabin baggage must be processed as hold baggage and carried in the hold of passenger aircraft departing UK airports.

The only items that may be taken through airport security search points and in to the cabin, in a single (ideally transparent) plastic carrier bag, are the following:

pocket-size wallets and pocket-size purses plus contents (for example money, credit cards, identity cards, etc - handbags are not allowed.

travel documents essential for the journey (eg, passports and travel tickets)

prescription medicines and medical items sufficient and essential for the flight

(eg, diabetic kit), except in liquid form unless verified as authentic

spectacles and sunglasses, without cases

contact lens holders, without bottles of solution

for those travelling with an infant: baby food, milk (the contents of each bottle must be tasted by the accompanying passenger) and sanitary items
sufficient and essential for the flight (nappies, wipes, creams and nappy disposal bags)

female sanitary items sufficient and essential for the flight, if unboxed (eg, tampons, pads, towels and wipes)

tissues (unboxed) and/or handkerchiefs

keys (but not with electrical key fobs)

Nothing may be carried in pockets.

Amen. That's really what's important, isn't it?

I agree, that is why we are all here to get more info from our trusted dis friends !

lots of flight attendants DON"T HAVE checked luggage. They carry everything on.

I hardly believe that a flight attendant threw out several hundred dollars of lotion because she could could not carry it on. Yes, flight attendants usually carry on their luggage, but is there a reason this woman could not have CHECKED her carry on? It's not as if flight attendants have extra special luggage which may only be stowed in the cabin, :rotfl2:

Yikes! We leave saturday AM for WDW and DH called to say he wants to cancel. I told him let's assess the situation first. I am so glad they uncovered this plot and no one was hurt. DH and I went to see the movie World Trade Center last night and it really brought back all the emotions from 9/11, not that you ever forget!

For those interested, next time DH calls I will ask him what is being allowed to carry on. I believe he is working the SW terminal.

It was confiscated. She was angry that she had to give it up. Nothing in liquid form is allowed on outbound flights except those deemed emergency needs. This is called a red alert...something the US has not done before. It is new for everybody.

In the US, electronics (iPods, laptops, dvd players, cell phones, etc.), toys, and carry on baggage are NOT banned.

I'm glad to hear this...BF won't go anywhere with out our cell phones (we have a tendency to loose each other...Its that whole "ohh look a kitty" -I have ADD and at times I get lost just like a child :rotfl: )
I am also a little leary of just leaving my camera in my checked luggage...I know that luggage handlers have a time frame to go with and won't treat our luggage with care with the thought that someones things will be in there.

I can give up everything else-no problem...it will take a little juggling but I can make it work....

The answer to this is readily available on the TSA website, link posted already.

This makes more sense, but this was not mentioned in the original post. She still had the option to leave the security line and go check her luggage, time permitting. If she was unaware of the new policy, shame on her airline for not getting out the word to employees.

The US is on ORANGE alert, not red. The red alert is only for flights originating in the UK to the US.

Please everyone allow plenty of extra time to get through the airport. Also pack a lot of patience since we have to deal with this.

The passengers today were surprised, the rest of us going forward will know what is allowed on board.

I would love to see more people checking their luggage because liquids are allowed in your checked luggage. What a pleasure that would be on board.

They were showing Reagan airport in DC. A TSA agent was walking the security line getting peoples liquids.

We leave on the 15th, and I was already nervous to fly. Now this! :sad2: I fully support the banning of ANYTHING as long as it makes it safer to fly. I think the Brits have it right...no carry-ons! That way, all the extra screening can go into the checked bags too!! Especially electronics....I would say most people can survive without their iPod or laptop for a few hours!!

I can survive just fine. I will NOT check these items under ANY circumstances. Neither the Airline or the TSA are going to do ANYTHING when they steal your stuff.

Sorry, once again you are NO safer then you were YESTERDAY, but BOY are you going to be harassed We have now given the TSA agents MORE POWER to harrass you. Expect to be yelled at and abused because they are "protecting" you and that gives them the right to act like a bully.

And if you are flying out of MCO give yourself LOTS of extra time. They couldn't run security before, this isn't going to help.

My son flkies from MN to Houston, Tx today for a job interview. Oh boy.

Two weeks ago, he coulodn't make his interview because of bad weather in Chicago.

He has the worse luck flying.

herc.

Actually the US is still on Threat Level Yellow, it's the commercial aviation portion that is on Threat Level Orange and UK flights are Threat Level Red.

ETA: Also FionaLovesShrek, I would watch what information I put out there. Please be prudent.

That would be great. We are flying SW Sat am and I want to make sure we don't pack anything on our carry on that we're not supposed to.

I flew 5 days after 9/11 and although it was a somber flight, I must admit I felt safer than I ever have on an airplane. I'm just thankful that this awful plot was caught and no one was hurt.

You do not need her report:
Threat Level Change for the Aviation Sector
Threat Level Change for the Aviation Sector
In response to a serious terrorist threat to international aviation security, the Secretary of Homeland Security has elevated the Homeland Security Advisory System Threat Condition to Severe, or Red, for all commercial flights from the United Kingdom to the United States, and to High, or Orange, for all other international flights and all domestic commercial aviation.

There are approximately 106 flights per day between the United Kingdom and the United States. Although numerous arrests have been made in the U.K. to disrupt and neutralize this threat, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is taking a number of heightened protective measures to ensure the continued safety and security of our international and domestic air travel.

Protecting the Aviation System. The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) will be implementing a series of security measures – some visible and some not visible – to ensure the security of the traveling public and the Nation's transportation system. TSA is immediately implementing following changes to airport screening procedures:

NO LIQUIDS OR GELS OF ANY KIND WILL BE PERMITTED IN CARRY-ON BAGGAGE. ITEMS MUST BE IN CHECKED BAGGAGE. This includes all beverages, shampoo, suntan lotion, creams, tooth paste, hair gel, and other items of similar consistency.
Exception: Baby formula, breast milk, or juice if a baby or small child is traveling; prescription medicine with a name that matches the passenger’s ticket; and insulin and essential other non-prescription medicines

Beverages purchased in the sterile area must be consumed before boarding because they will not be permitted onboard the aircraft.
Passengers traveling from the U.K. to the U.S. will be subject to a more extensive screening process.
Some measures will not be visible to the public. In light of the elevated threat level, the Federal Air Marshals Service (FAMS) will provide expanded mission coverage for flights from the United Kingdom to the United States.

These measures will be constantly evaluated and updated when circumstances warrant. DHS and its components have coordinated closely with the air carrier industry, airports, and state and local stakeholders to implement these significant, but necessary, security measures. The traveling public can assist these agencies in carrying out their important security duties by:

Packing lightly, without clutter to facilitate easier screening.
Check with your air carrier well before your flight departs for information on when you shoudl arrive at the airport.
Cooperating with TSA personnel at all checkpoints and gates because TSA Security Officers will be checking carry-on baggage at the gate.
Being attentive and vigilant to any suspicious activity.
Protecting U.S.Borders. U.S. Customs and Border Protection will increase enforcement efforts in international arrival areas including the use of advanced targeting tools, special response teams including baggage and aircraft search teams, baggage x-ray equipment, specially-trained canine units, and explosive detection technology.

DHS has also mandated that all flights from the U.K. transmit passenger manifest information for intensive screening prior to departure from the gate. In addition, passengers on these flights and all other international flights will be subject to heightened inspection upon arrival in the U.S.

Please keep in mind that this can change.

Why are you so sensitive?
I guess since the Secretary of the U.S Department of Homeland Security has heightened the security level & im flying soon. I guess somethings dont effect others, like their own security.

I know there has been a ton of confusion this morning, but Chertoff just clarified a few things at his press conference a half hour ago.

There are two levels of alerts going on right now.

The only "Red" in US ("critical" in UK) are the flights that originate in the UK and bound for the US.

All other flights, including all domestic flights are at "orange" - the second highest level.

The whole country is not at "red", just the flights from the UK to the US.

Hope this helps

Edited to add:
Sorry, this info has been posted already. This thread is going quickly and info was posted before I saw it. Sorry for the redundant info.
