Breakfast with a George Foreman grill?

The hair dryer and coffee maker do not send off smoke or grease.

Cooking breakfast meats on ANY kind of appliance gives off odors and smoke which has miniscule grease particles in it. They stick to walls and furnishings and stink the place up.

I don't want to have my hotel room smelling like sausage.

Additionally grease splatters and burns, and that is what causes safety hazards. Hairdryers and coffee makers do not do so. It has nothing to do with the power draw, it has to do with the type of use of the appliance.

I agree about the smoke and grease, my point is that just by having one there and using it responsibly does not create a fire hazard.

Yup everything is a debate

I don't have a problem with the grill and all, but, geez, meat for breakfast???

Gross. :D

The OP mentioned that they were bringing it to cook breakfast meats. Sorry, but they are greasy, messy and smell bad. Cooking odors linger a long time in a room that is not ventilated to cook in. I also think that amount of grease does pose a fire hazard. And there's the question of where to dispose of the grease...down the drain perhaps?

Good post, BethR! Wanting to be unique (just like everyone else!) Why don't we experiment... whip out that George Foreman grill and a pack of sausages and let's take them into the living room (not the den, that would be cheating!) Plop that grill on your freshly Pledged coffee table and start cooking. OOPS, a little grease on the silk draperies or a splatter on the couch will be okay. After all, it's a print not a solid. Leave the room and come back later... If it still smells fresh, no harm no foul!

I hope you can tell I'm trying to lighten the mood a bit! Eating in your room is the best way I know of to save money at Disney. The key is... it should never intrude on others' enjoyment or sense of security. After all, we're all on vacation! HunnyPots, hope your husband will be happy with a warm bagel, some cold juice, and a bowl of cereal. Or, if you're bringing a cooler... go ahead and pre-cook the bacon, put it in ziplok bags and have a BLT!

Have a good time everyone...see you in the parks!:jester:

I would never bring a grill into a motel or hotel, disney or not.

Welll eat pop tarts and warm pop, bottled water or whatever (and we have) when we're in a standard room.

We usually rent suites with kitchens now. So much more cost effective and we have our own frig/mwave/oven. much easier.

I have a little hot pot that I got on clearance at Target for $3. We used it last summer to boil hot dogs and it worked out great. Taking it again this year to heat up water for grits (kids love them with cheese) and oatmeal and maybe hot chocolate.

The foodcourts, as mentioned have toasters and microwaves..as well as hot water. They also have tables to eat at (the rooms just have two chairs with their table...in the foodcourts, you can all eat together. Pre cooked bacon can be nuked, as can precooked sausage..or you can cook hotdogs. You can heat up water for hot cereal and hot chocolate. You can toast your bagels, as well as bread. The foodcourt managers will say nothing to you..they would much rather you eat in an environment meant for eating, than in your room, which is meant for sleeping, watching TV, and bathroom duties. If you ask if it's alright to use the appliances to cook your own breakfast, you'll get a smile and big "sure hon, help yourself!". Maybe some of you didn't realize those items could be cooked in the foodcourt.

Why not stay at a DVC resort? Even the studios provide a microwave and a toaster in the room! That way you would not have to tote around a GF!

Maybe a few more non cooking breakfast/ money saving ideas would be of help. We like ham and cheese sandwiches just fine cold in the morning and they tend to hold you a little longer than ceral. Cold cuts stay fine in a cooler in your room. Caned meats such as spam can be heated a little by running them under the hot water in the sink for a little while. Another idea is to purchase part of the meal at the food court and then stretch it with food from the room. Buy a side of bacon or sausage and use bread from your room to make a sandwich. Have juice boxes from your room. Bet others have some helpful ideas too.

Thanks for those good suggestions, Jordon's MOM. :)

(See! We CAN all get along. It just takes the right attitude! :) )

favorties of ours are
yogurt, fruit cups etc with granola

Cheese sticks and whole wheat crackers

Chex mix morning mix

Pop tart cheese danish
Oatmeal (instant, made with hot water from the coffee pot)

You can also fix the ramen noodles in a cup (the ones that actuall ycome in a cup, not the bagged ones) or cup a soup with coffee pot hot water. There are other add hot water cups like lentil soup, potatoe soup, etc.

How about Grilled chicken salad. You buy the packages of salad already chopped and sliced. And the ready to serve chicken from purdue and Hormel (i think that is the other brand) and add it to the salad. We are big salad eaters at my house.
They also make ready to serve meat for Tacos now. Also ready to serve BBQ for sandwiches . Most Publix's have all that I have named.

One of my favorite breakfasts can be pre-made and warmed up at the food court. Toast your bagel (if you like them toasted) and then just add an egg patty, sausage patty, and a slice of cheese. Wrap it in saran wrap or a ziploc baggie...then when you go to heat it just wrap it in a napkin. YUMMY!! You have to keep them cool, but you can get the sausage patties and egg patties in the frozen food section of your friendly Wal-Mart super center now. It's a little more than doing your own sausage patties but it's convenient and easy to tote to the food court. Also...just FYI - a GF makes wonderful sausage patties....more like a hamburger than a sausage patty. My husband loves meat too and he loves when I make our breakfast bagels at home and make a BIG sausage patty. Good luck on your endeavor to save money.

Is it really worth the savings to bring and cook your own food? I could see bringing cereal, poptarts, granola bars and the such. I would not want to be hasseled while on vacation trying to cook up some bacon or sausage.

I totaly agree with ducklite, cooking in the rooms is totaly forbiden. Except if you staying in a DVC room where a kichen is provided. Question, do you cook in you livingroom or bedroom at home? Then why would you cook in a hotel room. First of all it is totaly rude to the guests staying around you and the guests that will be staying in your room next. Second, it is a fire hazard not matter what appliance you are using. Third you are on vacation, spend the 3 or 4 dollars and buy a bagel. There is absolutely no reason to be cooking in hotel rooms. Just my opinion.

I used to work for a hotel. and you are not supposed to cook in your room it is a fire hazard...

i can see using a toaster and a coffee maker but nothing more than that. you can use your coffee maker for hot water for instant oatmeal..

bring bread
eng muffins
bagels
frozen waffles
they make frozen pancakes
toaster strudels
they also have frozen french toast sticks that you can stick in the toaster

cereal just get milk in the food courts

I hope that this gives some ideas too.:D

Using the food court appliances sounds like the best (and safest) option here..

Disney resort rooms aren't meant for cooking - and would you REALLY want your vacation ruined because someone in the next room became confrontational with you over this matter? Or worse yet, reported you to management and you had to offer up some reasonable explanation as to why you were cooking in your room?

Another option is to stay off-site at one of the many nice hotels that offer a full FREE hot breakfast buffet daily.. You might actually end up saving more money than you would by staying on-site and cooking in your room..

Luckily I'm not a breakfast-eater so it's not an issue with me.. ;)
