Breakfast the day you leave?

Oh, Whispering Canyon Cafe!! Ok. I thought the decor would be a good fit for the men, but I couldn't figure out what they meant about games and things. Hahaha, they'd like that. Thanks for explaining!

Nancy, I really appreciate you explaining that! I've got the Unofficial book, but it's just this tome I haven't completely worked through, lol. And because the wedding was scheduled 5 months out instead of a full year, I feel so behind the ball planning! And of course because it's a short trip it leaves you wanting to do so much more but not able to.

I think my dh at least would enjoy Epcot a lot. I think it's really conducive to the split plan too, like me taking ds in early and them joining later. That way Dad could rest if he's tired and still have a nice day. And I guess you're going to say no DHS in the evening, right? Sniff.

I'm not sure I can keep ds with us in a slow group in Epcot. I'll have to keep watching the walk through. With just me, we can go faster. He's just really challenging. He's either into things or really NOT. His patience and ability to wait is super shallow. I might have to break up our group even if we do Epcot. Like leave my dad with dh and take ds to do things. I don't know. Sigh.

Epcot can be a lot of fun. It is a large park, but there is a lot to keep you busy, and I think a youngster could be very happy there. I don't know your child though, so you would need to decide.

Illuminations is gorgeous. My DD and DSIL are bored to tears. However, they also dislike Fantasmic. I like it, but it can be intense for youngsters. it is Mickey's nightmare. The package times are much earlier than regular dining times, that is why you did not see later times listed. A lot of people get a FP for Fantasmic and then book whatever restaurant they want. I book the package.

Here is what I would do....look at time and money.

I think your plan to do both parks can be a good one, your Dad does not need to that. He could rest.

Make sure you know that you cannot do it all, but you can get a lovely overview, and use it as a planning tool for the next trip. Look at Agent P for when you all are in the World showcase. If your son likes to move, he will enjoy this, and you will get the chance to explore the WS as he is scavenging. I think that you could manage both, especially if you are going with just your boy.

So I'm NOT crazy! Wow, cool! So if it's just ds and me, then we could do Epcot + DHS and be fine. I agree with that. And then either Dad naps or takes an alternate itinerary with dh out of the parks. Option 3 would be to take Dad to AK. It might be less walking, yes? And then we could still do Fantasmic in the evening, hehe. But really, that gives dh and my father 3 choices. I just thinking hauling my dad through Epcot won't work. So much walking.

I found an art museum in Orlando. I don't enjoy them, but my dh does. I think there's also swamps they can walk or something, hahaha. Now to throw out to them some options and see what they like.

Also, this is crazy, but could we get my dad in the *side* entrance on Epcot and skip the whole front half with the lands? How much trouble would that be from POR? On the map it says boat and walkway to resorts and DHS. That entrance takes you into the world showcase part. Could he go from POR to there and skip all the front half walking? If he could, that would seal the deal. Then I would *think* we could do like 10-4 in World Showcase, 4:30 at Brown Derby (the latest you can do for the Fantasmic VIP). Oh, are later Brown Derby res like 5:30 just filled up and that's why I'm not seeing them? Hmph, sometimes I'm less than brilliant.

Yes you could take the bus to HS and then the boat from there to EP's back entrance. That will save a few steps for your Dad, and it's a nice ride.

The only thing open in WS at 10:00 will be Norway and the French QS place. Everything else there doesn't open until 11:00.

And F! pkg are usually earlier rather than later. You have to have time to eat before the show. Keep checking and calling to see what the latest res you can get is.

That's super helpful! Thanks! I think I had read something about different opening times in Epcot, but I hadn't really made the connection. So *if* he wants to eat in and just do WS, they literally could. Might be really nice! I'm going to talk with him about it. It takes a while because he doesn't answer his cell phone. :rolleyes1

LOL!

Animal kingdom is a lovely park, but it is a lot of walking IMO.

If Dad wants to head to WS for 11, you and your son could try for a pre Park opening (PPO) breakfast at teh Garden Grill. It is cute, featuring Chip and Dale, and is located in The Land...convenient to Soarin and Living with the Land. (I bet your Dad would love this attraction!!! ANyway, you could get a head start, hit a few attractions after breakfast ( I also like Turtle Talk in the living room seas) and then meet you dad. The guys will probably like thre WS< ans when you and your son havre had enough, skip over to DHS.

It usually takes us a silly amount of time to pack, usually in the 2 hours range (I know) so on our last day we always get breakfast at whatever the quick service restaurant is at our resort and bring it back to the room and eat-and-pack. Then we are off to weepily spend our last few hours in a park before the Bus of Sadness brings us back to the airport.

Departure breakfast is a big deal for us. I always book something so that the last day blues don't hurt so bad. :flower1:

In the past, we've done Chef Mickey's a bunch of times and Cape May once or maybe twice on departure day. We are doing Boma this time and I am actually looking forward to departure day to try it.

Staying at POR, you are pretty central in WDW and you could go just about anywhere. If you are watching your budget, Trails End has a reasonably priced buffet with traditional breakfast items available. The Wave has a great menu AND buffet. You mentioned Whispering Canyon, which has a hearty AYCTE option at a good price. This might be perfect for your big eaters. And then there's Boma with more interesting options with an African flavor.

As other posters have advised, I'd be packed up and ready to leave right after breakfast. I think that 3 hours before your flight is a good rule of thumb. It will give you time to deal with the rental car and get situated without rushing, leaving some extra time for traffic or whatever might come up at the last minute.

Good luck with your planning!

Our favorite departure day breakfasts are either whispering canyon or Ohana. I think it is good to have something to look forward to before having to go to the airport.
