We have a breakfast reservation at O'hana at 8:30AM, and a flight out of MCO at 1pm. We'll be using DME. Can we make it?
We thought DME picks you up 3 hours prior, so that would be around 10AM, right?
Thanks!

Are you staying at the Poly?

Yes, the pick-up time for ME is typically about three hours prior to your flight time. They say to be back about 15 minutes before your scheduled pick-up. Also, if you've left any bags with bell services (like your carry-on), then you'll need to allow another 15 minutes to get the bags back. So be prepared to be back at your resort around 9:30 - 9:45 am.

If you are staying at the Poly then you might be able to have a quick breakfast at 'Ohana. If you are staying anywhere else, you have to allow for travel time and that would leave you almost no time to eat. Also, I've read that 'Ohana often runs behind, but that might be for dinner only.

also, if we happen to miss the DME pickup, how soon would the next DME bus arrive and could we take the next DME bus to MCO?
thanks.

I don't know if you can take the next DME or not if you miss it. I would guess it would depend if it's full or not. Personally, assuming you're using a participating DME airline, I'd check my bags at the Contemporary with the DME desk, go to breakfast at O'hana and then use a towncar service or cab to take me back to the airport so that I'm not having to rush through breakfast. Of course, I'm sort of partial to using towncar services anyway ;)

I don't know how it is now, but a few years ago DME pickup times at the Contemporary were at :25 and :55 after the hour if there are guests for that pickup time. If that's still the case, then the DME pickup time for a 1:00 p.m. flight would be at 9:55 a.m. and you should be at the DME pickup location at the Contemporary at around 9:40-9:45 a.m.

With an 8:30 a.m. breakfast at Ohana, that's cutting it awfully close. You might not be seated right at 8:30 a.m. You might have to wait for monorail. And you need to allow time to retrieve your carry-ins from your room at the Contemporary.

If you miss your DME pickup, you MIGHT be able to get on a DME motorcoach 30 minutes later -- but only if there actually is a DME motorcoach 30 minutes later and only if the driver expects to have empty seats after the final pickup before heading to the airport.

If you miss your scheduled DME pickup and your arrive at the airport too late, it's not Disney's fault.

In short, if you're seated promptly at Ohana and you rush through your meal, you should be able to make it. But you'd be cutting it close and taking a chance.

No, we'll be at the Comtemporary resort.

Since you're staying at the Contemporary I don't think you'll have enough time to eat and get back there before your ME pickup time.

There may not be another ME bus for a while. They only go to hotels that they expect to pick up people at. If there weren't any other Contemporary guests leaving on flights until say 5:00 pm, there wouldn't be another ME bus stopping at the Contemporary until 2:00 pm.

If you miss your bus you may be faced with taking a very expensive cab ride to the airport.

Don't forget after the OP would leave the Polynesian via the Resort Monorail it then stops at the Grand Floridian and Magic Kingdom before it arrives at the Contemporary. So you need to factor those two stops and sometimes the Monorail might need to stop on the track if there is another Monorail in the station it's going to.

I guess the OP could also take the boat to the Magic Kingdom and walk back to the Contemporary. However in my opinion it's not as fast as the Monorail, plus if they just miss it then it's a longer wait for the next boat.

Finally this has nothing to do with waiting for the Monorail or boat but I agree that you might not be seated at 8:30 AM for your ADR, because Ohana is one of the more popular places to eat at and sometimes they can get backed up with all their ADR's, so they will seat their guests way past their scheduled ADR time.

Let's assume it's going to take you 45 mins to eat....you'll be out at the Polynesian monorail platform by 9:20ish. It will take you about 15-20 mins to get to the CR from there..depending on how quickly the monorail is able to move. If it gets stopped along the way, due to 'traffic' up ahead, you could spend more than that 20 mins getting to the CR. Then you need to go to Bell Services to get any carryon bags back. So..now it's about 9:45. YOu need to be out at the DME bus stop no less than 15 mins before you appointed time. The time you are given is the time the bus is scheduled to leave the resort, not the time you need to be walking up to the bus stop!!
If you were to miss your appointed bus, you may find that there isn't another bus for over an hour. The bus does not automatically stop at each resort. It stops at those resorts that have guests who have previously reserved a seat for that timed bus. It's not as if the resort would call DME and ask them to make a stop at the CR for you since you missed your scheduled bus....that won't happen.
If you miss your bus, you will then have to find alternative transportation.

So...I would try to move the ADR up to before 8am. You may find that you aren't even going to be seated right at 8:30!! IF you have to wait even 10 mins to be seated, you are going to be in trouble.

I wouldn't do it. You are cutting it waaaay too close, time wise. You have to be back at your resort, ready to go, 15 minute before your scheduled pick up times. Busses do come early, and if you are not there, they do not wait for you. Miss your bus and you will have to find your own way to the airport. You can't just hop on the next DME bus, provided there even is one.

You shouldn't plan on leaving the Poly any later than 9am. So unless you can scarf down your food, and provided you are seated on time, your breakfast reservation isn't a good idea. Sorry!

Thanks so much for all the replies!
I'll try to move up the reservation (which is fairly difficult for O'hana), or just get a 7:30AM reservation at the Wave which is inside the Contemporary resort.

If you miss your bus you will likely be on your own to get to the airport. There may not be another ME bus scheduled to stop at your resort and time soon. or if the bus comes there may not be room on it for you. It all depends. I would breakfast at your resort.

I vote for cutting it too close! The last 2 times we had breakfast at the Poly we had snags. Well one wasn't a snag, they were seating 10 min. late - that's typical - but the other time the monorail was down. We waited in a HUGE line for the boat to Poly (we had taken a bus to MK from Kidani), and didn't make the 1st one. We were 30 min. late for our ADR.

I think your "Plan B" for changing the ADR to 7:30 or just making it for The Wave are a good idea!
