I was just wondering, how many DVC members make their own breakfast at the villa? Or do you really make use of the kitchen facilities for meals?

I go back and forth on this notion. I is so convenient, and heck, why have a kitchen if I'm not going to use it ...

But I am on vacation and I cook the other 51 weeks.....

Just wondered what other people did.

Breakfast is the thing we always make in the Villa. Usually eggs, meat, toast, fruit. Always have bagels on hand. It seems like if we get a good start on a hearty breakfast, it will carry us all into a late lunch. Cuts down on hunger pangs and snacking in the park. I like to cook, so it's not a problem. Sort of like cooking a Sunday breakfast, with plenty of time to prep and enjoy it.

If the teens don't get up, I usually leave them plenty of fruit, bagels, cereal, sometimes breakfast burritos. Usually from some point mid way into the vacation there is leftover pizza available, also!

We use the stove decoration all the time! In fact we eat dinner out max 3 times in a 7 night stay. We usually eat lunch out in the parks. Always have breakfast - little cereal boxes or eggs and bacon, toast, bagels, frozen waffles.. that kind of get it yourself thing usually.

My DH does most of the cooking, bless his cotton socks! He loves saving all that money on food!

We usually eat at least one breakfast out (Tonga Toast at the Polynesian), but the other days, it's breakfast in the room. Easier and definitely much cheaper.

We normally do a character breakfast each morning. The kids are still young and really enjoy them, maybe when they get older and don't want to do the character breakfast we will eat in more. I don't know, I am on vacation and don't really feel like cooking.

We always eat breakfast in our room. I love not having to get dressed to go to breakfast. Usually we'll have eggs, bagels, cereal of some sort....nothing too fancy. It's especially nice to be able to drink that first cup of coffee/tea out on the balcony!

We eat the majority of our meals in our room. We usually eat better breakfasts in our room on vacation than we do at home! We usually have waffles/pancakes, omlets, bacon & eggs or biscuit & gravy. At home it is usually just cereal or poptarts. Dinners in the room are always something pretty quick - spaghetti, tacos, hamburgers, etc. Lunches are just sandwiches. We will eat lunch in the parks the days we go (usually only do 2 parks per trip) and eat out once or twice for dinner.

I like to have breakfast in the room - I also like character breakfasts - so we do both on a trip -

I also like to go to the parks early - eating breakfast before you leave it a great way to do it - we stay at the parks until it get crowded between 10 and 11am - then go back to the hotel eat lunch, swim, res then around or after 5:00pm go back to the parks - haven't eat before we leave...

then after the park closes if we are hungry get a snack before we call it a day - sometimes we go swimming after.

I was surprised at how satisfying breakfast at the villa was -- just regular cerial and fruit. Saved a bunch of time and money. We did do a breakfast at "Cindy's Castle" -- a wonderful splurge. I don't know if we will every use the stove (I guess we could cook a pizza... hmmm). I think next trip we will try having our major sitdown meal be late lunch versus dinner. Having a nice break (with AC) seems very appealing.

Sooo many options... so few DVC points ;)

Except for a single character breakfast, we take our first meal in the room. However, we keep it very simple. No flapjacks or omelets, just quickies like cereal or bagels with lox and cream cheese. It saves a bucket of money, but at least its easier and more convenient.
:)

My kids like to eat as soon as they get up. so we usually do breakfast in the room. Most mornings it's just bagels or cereal, but a few mornings we'll make a hot breakfast. We do like to do at least one character breakfast, but even then the kids usually have a little something to eat before we head out.

We (I) mix it up -- DH doesn't really 'do' breakfast, so there's just me. Because I love all the breakfast-type foods, I love to eat out to get sausage gravy and biscuits, omelets, cheesey potatoes, waffles, etc, etc, etc. But love the convenience of cereal, fruit, english muffins, etc. and making coffee in my jammies on other mornings. We enjoy the resort and don't do parks every day, so this works great for me.

Friends came with us this spring and it was a HUGE convenience to eat cereal, muffins, and fruit and make our own coffee. It not only saved $$$, but an enormous amount of time -- some of us were eating while others were showering. Some days we came back from the parks for a quick break and had cheese/crackers, drinks, snacks, fruit, etc. This doesn't really qualify as cooking, but we felt we made excellent use of the big refrig, microwave, toaster, coffee pot, and occasionally the stove (and the dishwasher!!!).

It's also a great treat to be able to bring leftovers back to the room and heat them up for a snack or meal.

We always ate breakfast in the room and sometimes lunch. We ate out for dinner. Just by eating breakfast in the room everyday you can save a ton of money. We are a family of 4. We figured the CHEAPEST estimate of eating breakfast out would be at least 10.00 per person (believe me, that's a cheap estimate). So we save at least $40.00 per day and we usually stay for at least 10 days so that's $400.00 dollars right there! We usually have a nice big breakfast to hold us over ex: eggs, egg sandwiches, bagels and cream cheese, cereal & fruit ect. Then we do a small lunch like a sandwich in our room or at the parks and we usually have dinner out. It works well for us. Our trip in Oct. is coming up and we will be staying in a studio this time so we will have to modify our breakfasts a bit but we're still planning on eating them in the room.

We do a little of both. The kids like cold cereal, pop tarts, muffins, eggs. Very easy to do in the room.We will go out to breakfast usually once or twice.Never cooked dinner in the room, however.

We almost always eat breakfast in our room, unless there's a special event - like a character breakfast. We don't usually cook things up - no lumberjack breakfasts w/eggs, meat, potatos, etc.; we usually have bagels/cream cheese, muffins, cereal and fruit - lots of fruit. This help keeps costs down, makes our morning meal a bit more relaxing, and avoids wasting time in the AM.

We always have breakfast in the room; usually stock up on eggs, sausage, cereal, fruit, pancakes or waffles & english muffins. If timing allows, we eat lunch in-room too: we stock deli roast beef, turkey, ham & cheese, chicken nuggets, frozen pizza & hotdogs. We only do dinner in the room once in a while........something easy, like fajitas & rice.
You can save a fortune this way!

PS: we always stock up on bottled water to take to the parks; I put some in the freezer when I get up & they stay cool for the day.

We keep it simple at breakfast...go out! Seriously, while we will go to a princess or other character breakfast for the joy of it, we otherwise eat in...depends on who is cooking as to whether or not you get toast, cereal or the blue plate special. Sandie B

I was really against breakfast in the room. After all, I'm on vacation! But I found that I actually LIKED making breakfast. The cleanup was a snap and the time we saved was great. DH and I will be in a studio in Feb and I will actually miss my full kitchen. But, we'll be back in July happily cooking away!

We almost always do breakfast in the room. Usually we eat one breakfast out. Rarely do we do any other meals. Usually just breakfast and snacks.
