Breakfast ideas???

When you're going to be over near the Epcot area, you could go to the Garden Grove in the Swan. On Restaurant.com, you can purchase $25 gift cards for $10 each. And if you use the code EAT (expires 6/7/10), you can get an additional 70% off. I bought $100 worth of gift cards for $12. But we're staying at the Swan, so I figured we'd use them all. You can only use one $25 card per meal, but its still an awesome discount...and on the weekend, its a character breakfast.

What is this Sweet Tomatoes? Is this an organic Market like Trader Joe's?

Duckiedee; for added fiber (are you British because you use the British spelling a few times I notice)... I'm planning on buying a case of water when I get there and I'll bring a box of Benefiber singles. All you do is add the Benefiber single to one bottle of water and voile, a yummy citrus drink with fiber and very refreshing! I'm not bringing the water case in the van because DS18 will have all his stuff for college in it, so its better to shop after I get to Disney and his stuff is then in his dorm room. And last time we shopped at Winn Dixie I noticed that the prices are so low compared to the DC area! Why buy it here and bring when I can save buying it there.:woohoo:

I'm Canadian.

I might consider something like Benefibre, are there any additives, sugar or artificial sweetners? I do try and get my fibre from food. But on vacation it can be hard.

After two weeks in Cuba recently - I will NEVER leave home without my oatmeal and flax again! I was so bloated by day 2. The resort didn't know what a whole grain was. :P

Sweet Tomatoes is a buffet restaurant that has an excellent selection of salads and raw vegetables, plus soups, pasta and other foods that would probably appeal to folks who would shop at Trader Joe's. ;-) They have lots of choices with beans, greens, sprouts and are labeled so if they are organic. They also have a large selection of flavorful vegan and vegetarian dishes as well. Everything is really well marked, and ingredients are readily available if you have any food issues ranging from food allergies to political concerns.

There is a Whole Foods Market, which is Trader Joe's on steroids, a few miles from Disney property on Turkey Lake Road just off I-4 on the the non-Disney side of the highway. If we have a car, we make a run there for provisions at the start of a trip.

WDWGeek...

We use 2 TS meals for dinner shows, signature meals - for us that inclueds CRT, Cali Grill, Hoop Dee Do, Aloha show and BYBBQ. So we end up using more than we have meals. It is easy for us to make it up at breakie though.

Glad to know the coffee pot is really hot - I should attempt that here and see if it is hot enough for breakfast meals. I am not so sure it wouldn't impart a coffee flavour though...

The edamame we are bringing is already dried, so we won't have to heat it up... you eat it like a peanut. If I had a microwave though it would increase our breakie options. :)

The dinner shows and California Grill make complete sense!

You can run a batch of just water through for starters and that get's most of the coffee-ness out of the system, unless we were there just before you! I bring some really strong french roast and my own filters. That imparts more coffee goodness into my morning than the brown, pencil-like shavings that come as "coffee" with the room.

I've used the water coffee maker water to make oatmeal and the Fantastic Foods mush/soup in a cup meals. It works fine! Shame it doesn't work for proper steel cut oats, but rolled oats cook up fine. A trick getting the rolled oats (rather than the instant) is to put in a bit more than half the just boiled water. Wait a while, I usually take a shower, then reboil the water and add the rest of the boiled water to bring it to the texture I want. The first dousing of water softens up the rolled oats and the second finishes it up.

The Benefiber does have Aspertame and a few colors added. Its not clear, the strawberry kiwi is pink and the citrus punch is orange colored. To get my extra fiber, I make the sacrafice. Especially at Disney, you can bloat up on all that fatty, sweet food.

I will have to make a note to find this restaurant. If its close, we'll definitely give it a try. We have a Garmin, so we should be able to find it. We have Whole Foods here too, but it used to be Fresh Fields, and its not as good as the whole foods we had in Houston. Here I make a Trader Joes run every Friday afternoon. I try to eat several meat-free meals a week.. which is such a challenge when DH is ramping up his meat level! :confused3

We have used the dining plan our past two trips, and save those meals for mostly dinner and lunch, with one character breakfast. With 4 kids, we have packed pop tarts, Nutrigrain bars, and the individual small cereal packs. The boxes of the cereal are actually bowls. The food court also gave us some bowls without charge since we were buying something. My husband runs in the morning when the kids and I are getting ready and gets milk and fruit.

WDWGeek and Mindy - we need to start our own Fibre at Disney thread!!! LOL!

I will definately try running water through our pot here - DH uses pretty strong stuff too (I'm a tea toteller). If it works without the added flavour - that will save be big time bringing the kettle.

I worry about DD not wanting to eat, hating it myself and THEN wishing I brought the kettle! LOL!

Wonder if I used some vinegar/water and then cycle the water? I assume these are little pots and don't take long to run.

Thanks for the advice on needing the extra water with this method!

Mindy, I am wondering if there is any colour or aspertame in the unflavoured version? I will have to check that out and the healthfood store - they might have a selection I can pick from.

I've only been eating 'clean' since Jan - but have gone from a 14 to a 9/10 and feel so much better all the time by eating what I call "real food". :)

I do have the odd thing I don't worry about - it's hard to avoid everything and I refuse to be neurotic. So I do agree, if need be while at WDW, I might change my mind and go with the artificial sweetner if need be. That said I'm sure there must be something out there with Stevia or Sucanat or something.

I'm sure much of what I want to try will not be 'clean' LOL! And you are right bloat is NOT fun - I went away and literally had to SQUEEZE into all my clothes while there. CRAZY!!!!

Oh and Sweet Tomatos sounds AWESOME! No car though... :(

I am so starting the fibre thread.... I'm going to do that at the restaurant board...

Nature Valley Granola Bars and Dried Fruit (pineapple is our personal choice!)
Perfect and portable!

Yeah! Fiber.. Post a link here in case I can't find it. I had been thinking of starting a "Eat This --Not That" thread so we can talk about the best healthful options at each restaurant and walk-up food wagon. We can talk about that on the fiber thread. :thumbsup2 I have a few boxes of little packets of stevia sweetners. One is called Purvia and the other Truvia. I am the sweetner packet queen. I have fructose, Nutrasweet, Splenda, and Sweet N low.... but no actual sugar. DD7 was so intruiged by real sugar when we had afternoon tea at the Grand. She was popping sugar cubes in her mouth... she's never seen them before. And she's the underweight one!

I like the Fiber One bars best. Nature Valley always seemed too sweet to me. Dried Fruit is an excellent choice. They have little packages of dried fruit (single serving pouches, in a box of 8 maybe?) with Disney character's on the box. They sell them in the regular grocery store. I brought tons of those last trip.

Eating breakfast in your room is a great way to save both time and money!

I mainly eat cereal (you can bring a box in your luggage, and buy 1/2 gallons of milk from the gift shop at your resort). I usually stay at POR; they have mini-fridges in every room. You can also buy fruit by the piece (bananas, oranges, apples) from the counter-service restaurant at your resort.

Other ideas are juice, yogurt (you can buy both at your resort's CS restaurant), granola bars (bring from home). They also have things like donuts at most resort gift shops.
