Breakfast Casserole??? Recipe?

Here's a different one- it's very yummy French Toast!

1 stick butter
1 c brown sugar
2 T. dark corn syrup
1 loaf French Bread, cut into thick slices (I slice the bread, then cut the slices in 1/2 or even 1/3 for ease in serving)
5 eggs
1.5 cup milk
2 tsp. vanilla
pinch nutmeg

Cook butter, brown sugar, and corn syrup until the sugar is dissolved - pour into 9x13 pan (spray the pan with non-stick first to avoid a messy clean up!). Layer the bread slices on top of the syrup mixture. In a bowl, mix eggs, milk, vanilla and nutmeg. Pour over bread slices. Cover and refrigerate overnight. Bake uncovered at 350 for 45 minutes. I usually sift a little powdered sugar over the top before I serve it!
I'm definately doing this one along with an egg ones! Thanks, this is perfect for the carbs those kids crave.

The team has not had a lot of parental response, so I will be whipping up 4-6 of the 9x13 size dishes for tomorrow.

Thanks for all the great recipes everyone! Now I am hungry

All these sound *great*, BUT...I've been waiting for someone here to post the recipe that includes GRITS along with eggs, cheese and sausage. My cousin makes this and it's soooo good but she won't give out the recipe. Bet someone here has it! Come on...post it!!!! :hyper:

Sorry no grits for ya! But I made this one from Cooking Light last year. It was ok. Here's the link to the recipe and my review on my blog:

There is another one on Cooking Light's website that has stuffing as a main ingredient with sausage and eggs and cheese. That one is sooooooo good! I don't know the name of it but if you search breakfast casserole and stuffing it may come up. It was from a few years ago, I think in a November issue.

People love this. If you like a little bit of a kick, use the double strength dry mustard.

Sausage and Egg Casserole

12 Eggs
1 qt. Milk
1 loaf of day old bread, crust removed (I let sit out overnight)
1 pkg. Breakfast sausage
4 oz. Mild cheddar cheese, shredded
4 oz. Sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
1 ½ tsp. Salt
1 ½ tsp. Dry mustard
½ tsp. Pepper

Brown the sausage. In a separate bowl whisk eggs until fluffy. Add milk and spices. Remove crusts from bread and break into bite size pieces. Put bread into 9x 13 casserole dish, then sausage and cheese. Pour egg/milk mixture over top, cover and refrigerate overnight. The next morning, cook for 75 minutes at 350 degrees, until golden brown and a toothpick comes out clean.

This has been made by my family for years, usually made on Christmas eve and baked and served the next morning. We add canned mushrooms to ours, thats the only difference.

Thanks for the ideas :cool1:

Anyone know of one using bread placed in layers I think? Probably similar to the cresent rolls but thicker.

This is my family's version of the annual (unhealthy, but yummy) Christmas morning dish:

EGG AND SAUSAGE STRATA

6 slices bread, crusts removed, 1 side buttered
1 pound bulk pork sausage, cooked and drained
1-1/2 cups sharp cheddar, grated
6 eggs, beaten
2 cups half and half
1 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. dry mustard

1. Grease a 13 x 9 x 2" pan. Place the bread slides, buttered sides up in the pan.

2. Sprinkle the sausage on top.

3. Sprinkle the cheese on top of sausage.

4. In a medium bowl, place the eggs, half and half, salt and mustard. Beat with a mixer. Pour mixture over cheese.

5. Cover dish with foil. Refrigerate overnight.

6. Take dish out of refrigerator 30 minutes before you are ready to bake it.

7. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.

8. Bake for 35 minutes, covered. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10 minutes, or until set.

9. Remove the strata and let it sit for 10 minutes before serving.

Cut into squares - enjoy!

This looks a lot like swilphil's, but hers is bigger.

look up the tater tot casserole recipe. I get it on here at christmas time and use it every year. The kids love it and it's heavy and filling for hs boys.

You guys are great :thumbsup2 thanks for all the recipes - I printed them all and put them in my box at home. I made the french toast for my family for Sunday - yum, yum, yum....................

Due to a lack of communication by the head of the parent co-ordinator (she is a ditz) we experienced parents realized Friday night at our football kick off BBQ that we did not have nearly enough parents in the know to provide enough food for all the boys. We quickly switched gears and went for bulk instead of fancy.

I prepared 25#'s of roasted red potatos and 200 sausage patties while several parents scrambled a gazillion eggs, cooked pounds and pounds of bacon and sliced bagels and apples in bulk. We had this all delivered to the school at 7 a.m. and when we all met later in the morning for the scrimmage game we were all whining about needing a nap.

I was at a planning meeting last night for a future breakfast and I took all the recipes you guys gave me, made copies and handed them out to all the parents.

Here is a big THANK YOU to you all!
