Breakfast at Ohana or 1900 PF?

We are on the "free" dining plan in June and I want to do one breakfast (since we wouldn't pay those prices for breakfast now that our two kids are Disney "adults"). This was sort of a late decision so my only options are for Ohana and 1900 PF. We will cab from CSR and then bus to AK for a late start day. It is the first full day of our trip and we are dealing with a 4 hour time change coming from the west, so 9:00am is really 5:00am Alaska time! We need motivation not to sleep until noon, so I have 10:30am ADRs at both places. Our girls are 11 and 13 but still enjoy the characters.

FYI:
This is the first year since 2001 that we are skipping Chef Mickey's. I have a lunch ADR at Akerhus and a dinner at CP. Yes, we are character heavy but since our girls are aging out of character meals and we normally avoid fixed price restaurants, I want to take advantage of "free dining". We are eating dinner at Ohana. We have not had breakfast at either place. It has been a long time since we ate at 1900. My husband and dd-11 like the variety of 1900 and my dd-13 likes not leaving the table at Ohana. I guess I'm leaning towards 1900 since we already have a meal at Poly.

Wow, long winded... sorry! My first choice would have been breakfast at TH, but it is not available. I will keep trying though.
Is the food quality the same at both?

LOVE LOVE Ohanas for breakfast! :cheer2: the food I think is the BEST. They bring scrambled eggs, sausage, waffles, fruit, great coffee cake, and this juice that is out of this world. Now for characters they are Mickey, LILO, Stitich, and I think Goofy at times. They wear Hawaiian shirts, they also do a dance around the restaurant where kids of ALL ages get up and dance the conga line. They even give maracas and I think tambourines. My nephew is 20 but at 16 he even got up and did it, and trust me he "thinks" he is usually to cool for stuff like that. We also think I wouldn't pay for breakfast at a character meal, that is until I went to Ohanas. Now we pay even when we don't have dining plan. Not a big fan of 1900, I think Ohanas is just way more FUN...:cool1:

We hate Ohanas breakfast. It's poor food and family style. Plus the characters stink.

1900 Park Fare is more fun with the characters like the Mad Hatter and Alice. Plus it's a buffet with an omelet station.

If you're looking for better food I'd definitely go with 1900 Pk Fare. Lots more variety of food and better quality IMHO.

You can check out our experience there on my dining review website: www.disneydiningreviews.com Just choose the resorts tab and it's listed under Grand Floridian- 1900 Park Fare

Both are nice breakfast choices and the quality of the food similar. Theres just something about starting the morning at Ohanas. I love the atmosphere there... Not to mention the bread. So really it comes down to menu and characters. :)

Funny you post this. I had ressies at 1900 but canceled them. Booked ohana's since we had no character meals planned and want the kids to experience at least one meal with them.

1900 IS a character meal though...

We absolutely loved both of them. However, I think my husband preferred 1900 since it had a little more variety. I love Mary Poppins--she's my favorite so I think that's why I might prefer it a little more. However, neither of us have seen "Lilo and Stitch" but had a great time meeting them at 'Ohana's in July.

Breakfast to one person is different to the next. I certainly don't " hate " 1900, I along with my family just prefer O'Hanas. Check out the reviews on All Ears Net.com, O'Hanas rates better BUT only by a narrow margin. Being at Disney I try to go to the places my family will have fun at. We really like the characters much better at O'Hanas. I prefer Mickey over Mary Poppins anyday, hands down. But that is MY opinion. You need to see who your family would prefer to see. We like to laugh and participate and be silly and that is what O'Hanas characters represent. Now I am sure some little girls would prefer Mary Poppins, or Alice but none Of my friends with little girls have ever preferred it. About the food, I am at a Disney buffet, I live in a suburb outside of Chicago. My husband entertains clients frequently and I often attend and we go to some of the finest restaurants and when at home i WANT the better food. But at Disney I like it good but it certainly to me is never superb like it is at home. For example my DS likes Chef Mickeys dinner and personally I would rather have Burger King, but it's about the characters and his happiness.

Bottom-line ask everyone who they would rather see or be entertained by. Both are decent quality of food. For every one person who says 1900 the next will say O'Hanas and you might even have someone throw in a new place.

Good luck, and bottom line whatever you pick, you don't have to cook or clean and that is PRICELESS...:rotfl2:

I know either one will be fine. I may just flip a coin!!! My thing against Ohana is the limited menu and we already have a dinner there, but the reviews of Ohana are great. We also just got back from Hawaii so I guess we don't need 2 Hawaiian experiences at WDW!! At the moment I'm leaning toward 1900 PF for more variety, different location, and different theme.

None of our characters meals include Mickey and that just seems wrong!

Since you are going to AK anyhow...try to get a 10:30 breakfast at Tusker House! It is good...it has characters you are not already seeing...and you would not have to go out of your way.

We tried 1900 PF a couple years ago and I felt like we were at a funeral, very dull, wait staff was non-existant. Other people love it and maybe it was just an "off day", but we love the Polynesian and 'Ohana's. It is very festive, great interaction, great view, and a family-style buffet. Everyone is called "cousin" and there is a Mickey parade about every 45 minutes.

We did both & I preferred Ohana. Anytime I didn't have to get up to go to a buffet & seemed to enjoy the meal more. I was always afraid I would miss a character by going to the buffet. Nothing wrong with 1900 PF, just prefered Ohana. Ohana was our best breakfast for the week.

We've had breakfast at both places and enjoy both. If I had to choose between the two, I would probably pick Ohanas for three reasons:
1) The environment is more relaxing.
2) You get to see Mickey!
3) Nothing quite like an early morning view of MK across the lagoon while you eat breakfast...

Hmmmm this is a toughie. We like both breakfasts and we are doing both in May. However, if I had to choose just one, then I would go with 1900 Park Fare only because the Mad Hatter is just awesome. The food is really good there and they also have the famed chilled Strawberry Soup  Good luck deciding.

We stay at the Poly so naturally we are partial to Ohanas. You see Mickey, Pluto, Lilo and Stitch. The food is not spectacular, but it is not bad either. It is adequate. The kids get up and "parade" around the restaurant with the characters while playing maracas. We are going again this November. I would give it a thumbs up.

One kid wants Ohana, one kid wants 1900 PF, so it is sort of a lose/lose. Since characters aren't such a big deal anymore, I cancelled both reservations and we will take a cab from CSR to AKL and have breakfast at Boma. We have had dinner there a couple of times but never breakfast.

I think my reservations are complete. Since we are going during free dining my typical ADR changing won't work! This is our first free dining trip and I can really tell it is harder to get ADRs!

Thanks for all the opinions, but in the end I guess mom and dad win!
