Breakfast at Boma or Dinner at Sanna? Which one's better?

Hello! We are a family of 8 heading to Disney's Animal Kingdom Villas (Kidani Village) this December. Since we're so many, we can only afford 1 table service restaurant (or buffet) during our stay, so we want to choose very carefully. BTW Our family consists of 6 adults and 2 teens. All of us are "adventurous" eaters, so dining at an African/Indian restaurant would be perfect for us! If there are any other RESORT buffets you think are better, please let us know! Thank You!

P.S. Dinner at Boma is beyond our price budget ($400), so if we were to eat at Boma, it would only be for breakfast. Our budget is around $320, or $40 per person; however, if there's a MUST-EAT buffet, we might go over our budget. Thank Again!

I've done both, and for atmosphere I prefer Boma's breakfast. I did dinner at Sanaa once, and although I love Sanaa, I much prefer lunch there. Dinner was more hectic, lots more people, and I prefer their lunch menu. Boma has my favorite breakfast by far of any WDW restaurant. However, you mentioned African/Indian and Sanaa dinner has more "adventerous" food than Boma's breakfast.

Our Ratings of Sanaa: (*rev 03/13/2014*)
. . . food price value: B
. . . food quality: B
. . . food quantity per serving: B
. . . food prep speed: B
. . . food selection: C
. . . seating quantity: C
. . . seating comfort: C
. . . eatery atmosphere: B
. . . eatery convenience: C
. . . staff friendliness: B
. . . staff attentiveness: A
. . . character interaction: B (views of animals on savannah)

Our Recommendations:
. . . appys:... Indian Style Bread Service, Lamb Kefta
. . . entree:.. Tandoori Lamb, Beef Short Ribs
. . . dessert:. Banana Kulfi Sundae (if not on menu, ask for it from Kid's Menu)

NOTE1: Has good regional African food. Americanized, but definitely more adventurous
than other eateries. The menu is shorter than other table service eateries, the wine list
average, but the quality of the food and presentation are high. An added benefit is the
viewing animals on the Savannah during the meal (for daylight hours). There are eight
window tables and six more with good views. For lunch, try the Lamb Kefta open face
sandwich; for dinner, try the beef and lamb. Don't miss out on the Banana Kulfi Sundae.
We really like the bread appy/sampler, as well as the salad sampler with three salads;
either will feed two people. Be aware that items labeled as "Durban" are highly spiced,
best washed down with cold milk! It is out of the way, but is worth the long drive. This
is only one of the five sit down eateries we patronize at WDW. In our opinion, Sanaa is
better than Jiko or Boma. As a side note, Sanaa changed their "trio dessert" in October
2013. We were not impressed as the previous version. In fact, color us underwhelmed.
As a postscript, they accomodate kids really well.

NOTE2: We prefer the lunch over the dinner.
. . . the fare is a little lighter
. . . the price is better
. . . the appys and salads are the same
. . . the lower number of people eating
. . . the ability to see animals on the savannah

Our Ratings of Boma - Dinner: (*rev 1/26/2014*)

Our Recommendations:
. . . appys:... Soup
. . . entree:.. Soup, Durban Style Roasted Chicken, Whole Roasted Salmon
. . . dessert:. Cinnamon Chocolate Mousse, Bread pudding

NOTE1: Boma is outstanding for breakfast. For dinner it's below average and worth
passing by. I've worked in Africa, and menu items are highly Americanized, which
distorts the flavor - it is neither African no American and coms off as a mish-mosh.
African and Middle Eastern are spiced with cinnamon, vanilla, nutmeg, cardamom,
which can make food appear sweet. If doing dinner, go for the soups. There are
fifteen different soups at five per night. Leave the meats, salads, the desserts,
except for the Zebra Domes. FYI: bring the ear plugs, as it does get REALLY noisy;
we think AKL was a good location - it sounds like a herd of elephants coming through.

NOTE2: We always ask the waiter what he recommends. Much to our surprise was
is comment was, "taste all of our soups, as they are terrific, and leave the rest of
the buffet to the tourists." This was our birthday dinner, so the statement really
stood out, and it was true.

We're just back from our annual June Disney vacation and ate at both Sanaa and Boma(breakfast). I love spicy foods and really enjoyed Sanaa but Boma's breakfast blew me away! It was our favorite meal of the trip. It will now be on our must do for each trip.

Thanks "Simba's Mom", "TheRustyScupper", & "DisneyDiana" for the help!

EDIT: We thought dinner would be better, but now that I think about it, lunch is a MUCH better option! (You pay less, you get to see the animals, and it's quieter time.) Thanks for the advice!

So now, a better question would be: "Breakfast at Boma vs. Lunch at Sanaa, Which one's better?"

Honestly, our family would prefer a buffet, but the only problem is that we would have problems waking up early. Also, we're afraid that the breakfast buffet might be too simple and ordinary (i.e. eggs, bacon, cereal, fruits, waffles). Do you know any "unique" food offered at the Boma for breakfast? Thank You!

I would still do Boma for breakfast. It is anything but ordinary. Yes, they will have all the things you listed but much, much more. It is not your typical breakfast buffet. I would look at the menus and decide but for us, it's a no brainer. I believe breakfast is until 11:00. We got up had some coffee and fruit because our reservation was for 10:15. I didn't need to eat again until dinner that way. Chakalaka, Bobotie, yumm....

That's a really tough decision to make! I THINK I'd go for Sanaa for lunch, but I'm not too sure. As far as "unique" foods at Boma's breakfast, add quinoa to those named above.

Love, love, love the French Toast bread pudding with pecan praline sauce. And the fruit in some sort of cream. It is definitely NOT a standard breakfast. There's an omelette station, Bobotie, corned beef hash, and yummy juice. Our kids love the breakfast buffet!

That said, dinner at Boma is worth stretching your budget. It is our favorite! The soups are amazing, and there's much more unique food, even if it isn't authentic African food. And the desserts... yum!

I can't speak to Boma as I don't do buffets, but Sanaa is one of our favorites. On top of the amazing views, the food is a mix of Indian and African that is quite interesting. Not at all something I could get at home.

I was going to recommend Sanaa for lunch as well :)
We love both Sanaa and Boma (breakfast and dinner)~
as much as I love Sanaa, I would say pick Boma breakfast.
Especially when you said "teenager"
My kids are 19, 16 and 12, and they can really eat. There is a very nice selection at the breakfast at Boma, I promise you no one will walk away hungry. There is a nice enough selection of unique items that you will not find at your typical breakfast buffet. Definitely not as much as you would at dinner, but still very nice.

The Mara has a nice selection of grab and go items such as hummus and pita chips, bean dip, Zebra Domes, etc. that you could pick up to snack on that would give you a little flavor of AKL as well.

Either way you pick, you will have a wonderful meal and experience!!

We LOVED LOVED LOVED our dinner at Sanaa on our last trip. We went while it was still light out and were lucky to have a window table. It was amazing to watch the animals while we ate and then went out to the viewing area afterwards. I would recommend it 100%

I would suggest that if you enjoy over the rush areas and hustle and bustle then you go over the Sanaa for dinner really delicious taste and buffet is offering a large number of variety of dishes for diners. They have maintained their standard and quality. Lunch time rush is less. Now that’s up to you that you want to go either for lunch or dinner

We Iike Sanaa. But, we had three men in our party who asked for additional rice for their slow-cooked entrees and each additional serving of rice was almost $5! We hadn't asked if there would be a charge as we never pay extra for rice in Japanese restaurants.

Anyway, if the teens and others are big eaters, you may want to choose Boma. If we had known the rice was that expensive, we would have ordered more Naan.

I am not a big breakfast eater. We have dined for dinner at a Boma. While we enjoyed it, we enjoyed the lunch at Sanaa even more.

We did the Naan with all the dipping sauces. Delish!

I had some slow-cooked beef dish--melt in your mouth delish! (Ribs maybe???)

My daughter had the lamb burger (not what it is actually called) and loved it.

Boma's breakfast is far more ordinary than the dinner there.

We love both breakfast and dinner at Boma, but I think the dinner is more uncommon. There are things on the buffet that you may never see anywhere else (assuming you haven't lived/worked/traveled to Africa). The only ordinary things on the buffet at Boma dinner are the kids selections. Boma breakfast has the traditional favorites, with some slightly more exotic selections, but don't think it veers too far off the beaten path.

I can't speak to Sanaa except that it gets good reviews, and we have an ADR there for our upcoming trip. I'm a little afraid that it's not going to be THAT different from excellent Indian restaurants in my area. That's my only reservation.

With only one ADR, I would push the budget and go with Boma dinner.

Just thought of one additional consideration.

Now this just may be the thrifty part of me, but I just realized that at Sanaa, you'll be able to box up any leftovers and take them back to your villa ....

Are you thinking what I'm thinking ???

Midnight snack!

With Boma, either way (breakfast or dinner), you won't be able to take leftovers back with you.

Maybe that's not a consideration for you, but I'll throw it out there. I ALWAYS have leftovers. I still remember the leftovers from Artist Point from our first trip. OMG - it was better the second day!

Haha! True! That DOES give Sanaa an advantage! :thumbsup2

Thanks to everyone who helped! As of right now, we'll go with Sanaa! If we do stretch our budget, we'll go for Dinner at Boma! Thanks Again! :thumbsup2

Like other DISers I prefer Sanaa for Lunch. What about dinner at Boma and breakfast somewhere else? Boma breakfast is good, but the Dinner is so much better.
