Our son just turned 5 and we are returning to Disney in February 16. He is autistic and we are wanting to take some time inbetween the day to relax and maybe hang at the hotel for a couple hours and then head back to the park for fireworks. Do you need to have the park hopper pass to do so? Or not if you are returning to the same park?

:welcome: to the DISboards!

No, you do not need a park hopper if you wish to return to the SAME park you were at earlier in the day. If you go to the MK in the morning, back to your resort in the early afternoon, then return to the MK for dinner and the evening you do not need a park hopper. If you decide to go to a different park later in the day, that's when you need a hopper.

Enjoy your vacation!

One thing to be careful about - you are going during President's Week, and if the parks get really crowded they will close them to guests. It's a tiered system, and onsite guests get the best chance of getting in, but if you leave and then want to get back and the parks are closed, you can't go to another park without the hopper.

We always go the last week of February. That way it's not too cold and not too hot and the crowds are minimal! Thanks so much for your replies!

Your first post indicated "February 16" which PP interpreted as a hard date, not as "2016." The last week of Feb. will be much lighter crowd-wise than the week prior.

While parks are quite crowded during the week that includes Presidents' Day, I'm not sure I've heard of park closings during that week. Possibly, but I wouldn't consider it a given like at New Year's Eve or the 4th of July.

Enjoy your vacation!

Oops sorry still getting used to the site. Yes, I meant Feb 2016!

No problem...just pointing out the confusion since others may think the same thing. :flower1:
