Break time from parks...strategy

When do you take your break from the parks?

  • I take a mid-day break(anywhere from 3-5 hours) on days I visit the parks

  • I go to the parks for 1 or 2 days and then R&R by the hotel pool for a day

  • Other(explain below)

Since I have been so often I usually spend one day in the parks and one day someplace else (Universal, etc) then another day in Disney and the next day, something else, but I try to put in a down day at least every two days. I may just ride around or I may go shopping at DTD or just do nothing at all.

Remember that I am older than most of you, (not old, just older) and I would quickly lose interest if I got overtired. Just wouldn't be fun anymore. So I answered "other". I take my time, do only things that I really like, people watch, stroll around, warm a bench and have a Mickey Bar or Dole Whip Float. What could be better than that?

I used to be a die hard stay in the park from morning till night and get the most out of your park day. Before our last trip, though, my husband had knee surgery and couldn't walk all day in the parks, so I reluctantly (at first) took a mid-day break. The kids ended up loving their mid-day swim, and my daughter took naps most days which kept her very happy longer in the evening. I found that sitting for a little each afternoon kept me happier, too!! Now, we stay a few days longer (so I can still get all the park time I want:goodvibes ), and we've learned to stop and smell the roses a bit!!

And I just wanted to add another school of thought for the "going all day because you paid for it" theory. You also paid money for the resort (in some cases, a lot of money) whether you stay at values or mods or deluxes. Besides the obvious (pool, restaurants, bars, etc.), there is a lot to see at the resorts. The resorts are so well done. I don't feel like I'm "wasting money" if I am at my resort resting, exploring, eating, drinking, etc. As another poster said, the resorts are part of the Disney experience.

I don't go to WDW for the resort, I'm there for the parks. The main reasons we stay on site are to take advantage of EMHs, the dining plan and DME.

I can relax and take it easy at home for free.:lmao:

Sorry if its been suggested, but others have said, it is hard to get to the parks and to the room, rest and start over again... (altho some days its worth it - and we eat at the resort food court for lunch - low lines there!!)

But for days when it just doesnt fit into the schedule - - we find a long ride and take naps in the ride... at MK - Hall of Presidents tend to give dh naptime - at EPCOT - nothing better than Ellen's Energy ride - the seats are plentiful and you can get a whole row to yourself - its a 40 min adventure - perfect length for a nap!! ;)

We've done that a few times.:rotfl:

Last time it was all day long since it was my first trip back to wdw since I was a child. :goodvibes But now since we are dvc owners and bringing our ds (18 months :yay: ) I think we will try to relax more :cloud9: depending what is going on in the parks will decide when we take our breaks. :)

Breaks? Breaks?! We don't need no stinkin' breaks! :lmao:

Our trips have been getting longer and longer. We went for 17 days last time. Commando style all the way! We did take one day each for TL, Discovery Cove, golf and KSC.

OK, so our breaks are all day long. But, on our park days, we start early and then close them down. (And, then we'll hit DQ if it's still open. ;))
