Break-even point for refillable mugs?

Have you done the math? :teacher: At what point does the savings from the free refills outweigh the cost of the refillable mug ($11.99)?

We'll be at Pop for 4 days over Easter. We'll probably eat 5 BFs and maybe 3-4 snacks at Pop. All other meals will be in the parks.

Also, I won't want to lug 4 travel mugs to the parks in my backpack so the mugs will have to be returned to the room after BF.

Don't forget that you might like to have something to drink when you return to your room for the evening or during pool time...

Im planning on just getting 1 - wont be at Pop long enough - just for sleeping 5nights - not planning any meals there - just my morning COFFEE - and 1 afternoon at the pool

Drinks are so expensive at nearly $2, so I would guess only about 5 refills would cover it. We take ours to the pool and probably refill about 2 - 3 per day. The mugs really don't hold as much as they look like they do.

So what if you are switching resort midway thru can you use your mug from the first resort at the second resort???? Thanks!

The mug is 11.99 plus 6% tax =$12.70. Hot and cold beverages are 1.79 plus 6%= $1.89. So, 12.70 / by 1.89 = 6.72 refills per mug to break even.

The mug is meant to be used at that resort only for the length of stay. The exception IIRC are sister resorts, for example All Star Movies/Music/Sports where the mugs are interchangeable.

Mugs are a very funny (and touchy) topic!!! We have ALWAYS bought 3 - one for each of us. We use them our length of stay at our resort (so far it has only been ASMo) and we get PLENTY of use out of them. There's nothing like running in and getting a refill while sitting by the pool soaking up some Florida rays. And they are handy at night when we come back from the parks and just want a quick snack. I then use them at home ALL the time and it reminds me of the AWESOME time we had!! We buy new ones each time we go, so I am getting quite a collection!! :cool1:

thanks for the info about how many refills it takes to break even.We are on a super limited budget..so this mug even counts as one of our souveneirs.....how sad is that?lol..anyway,,,I plan to use it again once we get back home at work to remind me of our NEXT wdw vacation....hahhah

I have a question about length of visit. I'm renting DVC points Sun-Thurs but will be starting and ending my vacation at POP over the weekends (to avoid the high weekend points at BWV). I'll be checking in at POP May 13th, staying two nights, then moving to BWV for five nights, then back to POP for the last two nights. If I buy a POP Century mug for the first two nights would I be allowed to use it for the last two nights? It would all be in the same vacation, but I would have five days at BWV in between. Hope this makes sense.

And it's a bonus that you can refill them during your vacation! It's just fun! We never use them much, we aren't big soda drinkers, but we love coffee. It's cheaper than a t-shirt, and you can re-use at home for years! (Or just collect them in the top of your kitchen cabinet!)

since we are thinking about staying at POFQ,,,would this work at POR as well/is that considered a sister resort/i dont wanna cheat,,just wanna know.12 bucks is not cheap,,,,especially when I am not sure how often we will be eating at the resorts. But it will make an affordable souvenier....

Yes, those 2 are sister resorts and share mugs and pools! :flower: We'll be there in Dec. Looking to add to my mug collection too! We buy 3 for our family of 4 as dd is only 2 and is content w/ a few sips from mine...prefering her sippy cup of juice over soda!!!

I really think that would be okay.

Yes-it is the same mug. It actually says Port Orleans (no Riverside or FQ) and can be used at both. (You can use both pools also)

Don't forget, though, that you get a snazzy mug to take home.

I use mine everyday at work, and the one I am currently using was bought almost a year ago. Nary a scratch on it, and I've actually been pretty rough on it.

So make sure you include the value of the mug in the decision - although I've found that in most typical triups I could easily pay for one just in the refills.

I didn't think it was worth it for our family to buy 4 mugs at AKL. The trip to the Mara from our room was so daunting that we often just said forget it because it wasn't worth it to us! We just drank water, LOL. So, consider how many trips you're willing to make to your counter service place.

I'd probably feel differently if our room had been closer to the Mara.
