I keep hearing how good the bread bowls are in CA. Can you get them at a counter service place in DL? Any idea where? Just on the chance somebody knows so I don't have to search all through AllEars.com! :) Thanks!

Vegetarian or steak gumbo, or clam chowder I believe, in a breadbowl at Royal Street Veranda. I can only speak for the veggie gumbo, but it's delicious.

October '07 menu from French Market shows:

Sourdough Soup Boule
Choice of creamy clam chowder or soup of the day, severed in a bread boule
$8.69

I assume "boule" is French for bowl...

But I've never been to French Market so I don't know if it's table or counter...

You asked about DL, but I wanted to give the extra info (that you might know) that DCA's Pacific Wharf Cafe has a vegetarian chili in a breadbowl (delicious) as well as a clam chowder as well, oh, well, there are several, here:

Soups
served in a sourdough bread bowl

Monterrey Clam Chowder
Creamy, rich and chock full of clams, this chowder features diced potatoes,
celery, onion and peppers
$8.69

Bakersfield Broccoli and Cheese
Choice florets of broccoli and cauliflower are simmered in a chicken broth with rich
cheddar cheese, onion, celery and carrots
$8.69

Santa Rosa Corn Chowder
Plump corn kernels simmered with potatoes and roasted red bell peppers in a zesty chili
bisque, then topped with chives and diced ham
$8.69

Vallejo Vegetarian Chili
Medley of tomato, bell peppers, onion, carrots, zucchini, pinto and black beans,
simmered in a rich tomato broth, with just a hint of Jalapeno and Chile pepper
$8.69

They also have salads in the breadbowl, AND during breakfast they have eggs and bacon in a breadbowl!

DLR is overrun by breadbowls.....:upsidedow

Now this is how I get my post count up accidentally. I merely skim the question, give info that's already known (you mentioned CA but I missed it), then have to come back and say "oh, oops!" :)

mmmm Breadbowls... you can get them at the counter service place near Pirates.

Molly... SEVERED in a bread boule? Is this because it's kinda close to the Haunted Mansion, and one of those hitchhiking ghosts has escaped? :lmao:

Seriously, though, thank you so much for the prompt reply and good info! I'm drooling!

LOL....we'll have to take it up with dlresortinfo, not me, I just copied and pasted. :rotfl: (one of their pages is labeled dsineyland, so I'm not sure they'll take much note, though...love them, but the typos...)

Albort, do you have a connection with the DCA breadbowls that you'd like to share with us? :goodvibes

no, no connection, but the bread for the breadbowl are made at DCA. aka, its fresher! :)

I second this. Not only is the bread freshly made at DCA, but the stuff in the bread bowl at DCA is much better than anything that Disneyland puts in it.

Hmm. Can't agree with you on that there, as the veg gumbo (DL) and veg chili (DCA) are equals in my mind and taste buds! And I don't eat the other stuff. :goodvibes

We usually get the ones near the Pirates, but this past time- I tried the brocolli and cheese one at DCA and YUMMM!

Glad someone asked this question so I can finally post this photo. It's what was left of my clam chowder........

Have to say we did this on a cold morning in December and it was so yummy. I highly reccomend it.

What one would you guys say would be easy on the tummy? I'd love to try the chili, but uh, I have Crohn's Disease and would likely spend the rest of the trip in the hotel bathroom! :sad2:

I so want to try one of these though, although I'm wondering if it will be too warm in June to eat this for lunch or dinner?

Jen- At the french market they have a beef stew, which is much easier on the tummy than the chili for me!

you can also buy their yummy bread bowls near the entrance inside DCA. You could always make your own bread bowls at home :)

:rotfl: You sure did a good job on it, NDad! Are you sure it was chowder? There's not enough left to tell!

Thanks for the pic, it looks yummy! Er, what's left of it, that is...

I have colitis and enjoyed the broccoli and cheese. I, too, was eyeing the restrooms but did not need them. Just take it easy and enjoy..
