Please let me start by saying that I would ask that any answers to my question to be as respectful and kind as possible. I'm new to the DISBoards but I've seen how quickly things can turn cranky and I don't want to be the cause of an international incident.

I have two questions - what is the problem with Brazilian tour groups? I've seen lots of complaints but I don't understand.
And what are the chances of running into a lot of them in September?

the months they usually go are jan and july. the problem is they groups are large, young, and very poorly chaperoned.

they often chant, even on rides or shows (kinda ruins the haunted mansion atmospher, for example). and they are known to cut in line.

This, plus they have maybe one very young (say 20-24y/o) tour guide for maybe 50 kids. The tour guide's job is to make sure those kids have a good time and don't go home complaining to papa, so they don't even try to corral the kids bad behavior. The tour guide runs from ride to ride gathering fast passes for his charges, so if you happen to get behind one it can be really annoying waiting for him to put those 50 tickets through. You will have a group of maybe 4 or 5 ahead of you, but as you get close to the front of the line, another 50 will push their way through. It's a cultural thing, but if you happen to leave just a little breathing room between you and the person in front of you, they see it as a gap for them and have no problem cutting in front of you. Their chanting on rides is the most annoying though. I've been on Soarin when the CMs had to stop it, lower us down, then restart it due to all the chanting and picture taking (making announcements did not work). I've also been in Mickey's Philharmagic (same trip) when the CM had to stop the movie, get onto the chanters, then restart the movie. They think the rules don't apply to them. We've been in line for characters, when a huge group just appears and mobs the character, totally ignoring the line waiting and just laughing when the handler tries to get them to stop. We've also seen them push their way onto the buses at the resort and also DTD, cutting in front of everyone (never at the parks though for some reason:confused3).

I have some young neighbors that are Brazillian, that I have spoken to about this. The man comes from a poorer background and never got to go, but his wife came from a well to do family and says the WDW trip is sort of a right of passage for well to do kids. She was one of them and admits to acting very badly when she was over here. She says it's just alot of rich, spoiled, young 15 y/os, many away from home for the first time with no adult supervision, sowing their oats, knowing they'll not get in trouble, no matter what they do. They know the tour guide won't say anything because if the kids complain to their parents they'll lose business for the next tour. She says many will claim not to speak English, when in actuality they speak not only English very well, but Portuguese, Spanish, and German. Again these are kids from very well to do families, alot of whom just want to see how much trouble they can get into, knowing there will be no consequences.

I have experienced it and that about sums it up nicely. It sort of ruined things for me at the time, felt very dissappointed that it was happening. I just tried to put it in the category that we have rude youth wherever you go, and then try to have my own good time in my own way. Our own American kids are not known for their good manners. Hope you have a good time if you are going during this time or anytime where groups of exuberant youth are roaming around uncontained.

We've been when there have been tour groups. They seem to stay at the value resorts and my tip is to try to get to breakfast early otherwise you will run into long lines. They tend to be obnoxious, but I just ignore them for the most part and focus on having a good time.

Ok, that sounds like it can be annoying but avoidable with a little effort. We're going from 9/30 to 10/7 (Food and Wine Fest), and not staying at a value resort, so hopefully we won't have too many problems. I also read that fall is a great time to go because it's not overly crowded, so here's keeping my fingers crossed!

well, it'w not avoidable if you are at the same resort. we were at Sports with a brazillian soccer group. we were in the home run section, and they were taking up most of the 2 buildings.. and the pool!!!and I do mean "taking up"

when we were unpacking the car, a huge group WITH a chaperone, were blocking the walkway and would NOT move, even after a few "excuse me"s, each trip.. they just gave us dirty looks.

at the time we were still smokers (quit yay us!) and were smoking in the DSA (the metal bleachers. a group (WITH coach) were playing soccer and there, and the coach tried to start a fight with my hubby cause he didn't want us to smoke.

if you got off your lounge chair to use the pool, they would move your stuff and take your seat.

they were playing soccer to the wee hours of the morning, bouncing the ball against our window. when we complained numerous times, a rather snarky CM on a segway told us that July is "Latin" month, and they are OUR guests.. (what are we? hosts? no, we are paying guest also!!!)

finally about 1 am (we had to get up early to drive the next day) securityFINALLY made them all go to their rooms. (see, you can use the pool whenever you want IF you are quiet! they weren't). I overheard the security say to a mom complaining (it's their last night, they want to have fun, etc some chaperone) "well, I can see both sides..."

the bus rides back from the parks were headache nightmares. they chanted the whole time at the top of their lungs. even though little kids were crying and covering their ears. the bus drivers did nothing. the adult chaperones were chanting the loudest.

none of this is opinion, I just stated facts, things that actually happened.

oh, the line cutting and chanting at the parks was horrible.

I remember once being stuck in line behind one such groupon Space Mountain once - actually I was about to return my Fastpass and they basically barged in ahead of me like a cartoon stampede. The kids were incredibly loud, rude, and pushy. I figured it was just that one group though, had no idea it was some sort of cultural epidemic.

they tend to be quite loud and obnoxious in my past encounters with them. (i dont think im being mean, im just being honest.) you could have a wait for a ride be 20 minutes and then a big group of them would get on and the wait is now at least double what it was before :P my dad has gotten behind the leaders in line for a fastpass machine and the guy had so many people in his group that he finished out the rest of that time frame for the fast passes! (bummer!)

and no i dont think there wold be too many in september. we go in july and.. there are always abunch of groups :'(

but you cant let them ruin your vacation! you are in the happiest place on earth! one cant let a bad encounter with them to ruin your vacation!

but i must give them props, ive never seen the same tshirt worn in so many different ways!! XD :rotfl:

Anytime you have a bunch of kids that are unsupervised, chaos will follow.

They have terrible behavior and Chant non-stop buses, rides, in line, in QS, while walking, We witnessed a group of the girls making fun of a special need child, by mocking her, it was awful, they thought is was funny until, the parents complete went off then they all started speaking spainsh, but the mother of that child switched to spanish and you could see the surprise on their faces. A cast member came up and the next thing I know there where several people in the Navy blue blazers around and they were making them
leave the park.

Last year, we where headed out and was walking by the pool at POFQ, and the pool was wrecked and closed, The poor cast members having to clean up that mess, Told us that a Brazilian group had snuck over from their hotel and trashed they place, they had over turned lounge chairs and thrown some in the pool, there were bottles and trash every where. They had been caught just before dawn. I asked what will happen, the cast member said they would be held responsible for damages.

I think Disney needs to put some rules into place for groups, and enforce them. During our Christmas trip the begining of Dec last year, my DH was almost knocked down by a bunch of cheerleader's pushing and shoving. Now my DH is not a small guy 6' 4" and 285, so in can hold his own, but they hit him from behind, then on of the girls started swearing at us, I simply turned around and in my Team Mom Voice... ask her what school she was from, and where her coach was, and was this the kind of behavior that she and her team would want there school to know about, after a few more questions and scolding, they were all crying and apologizing. I was room mother, girl scout leader, Dance mom and Team mom!! There is no-way I was going to let a bunches of little girls with bad manners run all over us or someone else and not say something to them. I never yelled or cursed at them but they got the point, I bet they were on there best behavior after that.

We dealt with one big group on our last trip. They were not only rude with line cutting, they were also using foul language. I took it as my opportunity to set them straight and tell them off in Portuguese. They may have a different accent but they sure understood me loud and clear. Luckily it was only when we were at DHS and we managed to never see them again.

Just out of curiousity, no one told them to shut up on the buses when little kids were crying??? I'm kinda surprised. I'm not a pacifist but I'm also not confrontational; however, if I see obscenely obnoxious behavior that was upsetting to kids you bet I'd be giving them the business.

Also, both my daughters are cheerleaders and I'm a coach. I do not tolerate ANY inappropriate from my girls. They'd be back in the room for the rest of the day. Period.

Are we going to miss the Brazil rich young kids tour groups - or will we right in the middle of them ?

They starting arriving in July per this thread.
We will be in WDW July 1 -3 and the last week of June.

Are we possibly going to run into the Brazil tour groups ?

Thanks for any help!

PS - we report rude behavior of any guest to the nearest CM.
My DH is in the 'obey the rules and regulations' business. :cool2:

as I previously stated, hubby and I were only sitting in the DSA, having a smoke (as is allowed). the coach of the kids practicing nearby ran over to us, and tried to start a fight with my husband. he did NOT want us to smoke.

all that got us from the CM "suit" on the segway was "july is Latin month at WDW.. they are OUR guests"

yeah, hubby and I (no kids with us) are going to start arguing with a whole busload of brazillain kids and their irresponsible coaches/chaperones, who are yelling even louder than the kids.
the cast members didn't back us up at the resort, when we had soccer balls banging against our window at 12:30 am, and coaches physically threastening my husband at 10 pm for smoking in the DSA.
I am totally convinced the cast members are told to look the other way when any of these groups do anything. cause disney needs their money.

were at POFQ the last full week of June and there were a few groups staying at the resort.

Our biggest complaint was the first few days they were noisy at the resort at night. We commented to the front desk and the guy in the next room was very vocal directly. After a day or two the situation was resolved.

We really didn't have any other issues in the resort or parks. I think we headed out earlier than them. I would occasionally see some of the chaperones and a few of the group in the morning, but the food court would be packed late at night.

They are large groups so they take up a lot of space, but I also see families that walk abreast taking up the whole bridge going into Adventureland. And the only time I heard them chanting was before Fantasmic.

The tour guide runs from ride to ride gathering fast passes for his charges, so if you happen to get behind one it can be really annoying waiting for him to put those 50 tickets through.

How true! I got caught behind one of these "runners" last year at Toy Story Mania. I got to the Fast Pass machine line and was third in line. The FP return time for the machine was @ 10:05 when I got there. Well the person in front of me got up to the machine and pulled out a stack of tickets probably an inch thick and started feeding them in. She was maybe a third of the way through the stack when a castmember stepped in and did a few more for her. Then he actually turned around, and asked for my four tickets and fed them through before continuing on with the tour guide's stack. I was very grateful to say the least but in the time that had elapsed the FP return time had moved from 10:05 to 10:30!

Can anyone give me a heads up when these tour groups arrive in January ~ beginning, middle, or end of month?

Thanks! Planning a trip for January 2013.

If they go to right you go to the left and vise-versa if there are too many in one park move to another, You cannot avoid them all together but if you play your cards right you can get around them most of the time.:crowded:

We ran into some groups over MLK weekend, but nothing like we saw in the summer time. We've run into groups just about every time we go. We have witnessed the huge groups moving at once, chanting in line, etc. We have not had an incident where the ride needed to be stopped but that doesn't surprise me at all. The oddest thing I saw was a group nap at the Studios. The whole tour group on the ground in one big pile. Ridiculous.

As others have stated, put a bunch of spoiled, unchaparoned teenagers together, throw in some cultural differences, and it can get very annoying, very quickly.

We try our best to go right when they go left. Usually easy to spot, all are in the same shirt and the tour leader carries a tall flag.
