Brazilian Blowout?

It would be like giving yourself a perm. I can't imagine doing it myself, but I'm sure somebody could.

I've been getting keratin treatments at the salon for awhile now. I've had 6 and can't imagine going back to living without them. My hair is very thick and I still have to flat iron it straight. But it only takes 20 minutes instead of close to an hour. My hair is soft and shiny and even if I don't flat iron, there is no frizz.

Okay, I doubt I could do it myself.

And Jedijill is probably right, its probably best left to a professional.

Thanks for the info. I have a hair appointment next week and will ask my stylist about this.

I have VERY thick, curly red hair. It takes forever & lots of product to make it straight & frizz free. How will this hold up in humid NY summers?

My neighbor started getting this done this summer. I was contemplating it, but at $250 a pop I just couldn't. My hair isn't curly, but it isn't straight either. After she has it done her hair looks more like mine.

I started using the Aveda Super Smooth products. They are awesome. Our last trip to Florida in August was the first time I didn't have (as my SIL says), "Troll Doll Hair".

My sister in law has very tight kinky (ethnic Italian) hair. She has this done about every 3 months and even in the Long Island humidity in August she was frizz free.

My hair held up over the summer in NJ, so it should work just fine.

WOULD YOU recommend this? how long does it take, how much and where would we buy the folica? thanks !!! :) ok to pm me.

Folica is a website for buying hair tools/products.

LOVE IT! This stuff changed my life! No more frizzy triangle head for me! I have it done in a salon, I'll do touch up color on my hair to help that last longer, but no way would I do this stuff at home. Payed a ton to have it done the first time and it was worth every penny.

I got the keratin treatment done and it didn't make any difference. The salon actually did it twice because it didn't work the first time and even after the 2nd time it still didn't work. I have thick, slightly wavy hair this is frizzy. After the treatment I still have to blow our and straighten. Not worth the money for me

I have long, frizzy, red hair and highly recommend the Brazilian Blowout. I paid my stylist $250 for the treatment and it lasts about 8 weeks before I have to start touching it up with a flat iron. As long as I do not get sweaty or go somewhere that makes my hair smell, I wash every other day.

My DD13 wanted to get her hair done too, but I cannot justify that kind of money for my DD's hair. I found a highly rated seller on ebay and bought 2oz bottles of the shampoo and treatment for around $50. I have done her hair 2x. I did my hair at home once, but I don't think I had enough solution to go a great job.

We both use sulfate free shampoo/conditioner from Sally's Beauty Supply.

There are lots of videos on YouTube on how to do the treatment. I would recommend going to your stylist for the 1st treatment so you can watch what she does.

I am going to DD13's hair tomorrow night and I have an appointment to get my hair done at the salon on Saturday. I cannot wait! It really makes your hair feel great, keeps the body and eliminates the frizz! It also great reduces blow drying time.

Anyone who is thinking about it should give it a try!!! If you are going to do it yourself, wear plastic gloves and open the window. The fumes will burn your eyes.

To those who have had it done - does it make a difference in the kinds or amount of products you use on your hair? For example, I have long curly hair and right now I use a heavy shampoo & conditioner in the shower and then gel and any one of several other products to weigh my hair down - and I use a lot! I've read that after the treatment people just comb through their hair and go on their merry way, but is it really that simple?

The reason I'm asking is, spending $250 on getting it done is quite a lot for me, but I could rationalize that I'm not spending money on product. Not that I spend $250 on product every 3 months - I'm doing "girl math". :rotfl:

It really depends on how curly your hair is. In my personal experience, if your hair is very curly, it will not become stick straight. If you want to wear it curly/wavy, you'll still need product, and if you want to wear it straight, you'll still have to do some work. However, I do use less product when my hair is curly than I used to, so there's a very good chance you'll need less stuff.

Also, I got mine done at a cosmetology school and it cost less than $100. You might look into that.

Right, but which product did the poster buy that she liked?

She bought the Coppola Keratin treatment.

If I were going to do this myself, I'd try a product that's meant for home use. I know Ulta sells one. It's not going to work as well or last as long, but I personally wouldn't mess with the professional treatment myself, especially not the first time.

I, too, would love to see before and after pics!! I never heard of either of these treatments and now I WANT!!!

Which is better, the Coppola Keratin Treatment or the Brazilian Blowout??

Okay, with my DD13's permission, I will take photos of her hair before and after. Her hair is not curly, just wavy/poofy with frizz. I will post them tonight after we do the treatment.

I too would love to hear from someone who has done both and has an opinion!

I use less product. I use a large pea size amount of smoothing cream and then blow dry. I no longer use a leave in conditioner or flat iron spray in additional to the smoothing cream. It is not wash and go, I still blow dry, but the blowing dry takes 30% of the time.

For me, I would have to get this treatment done every 8 weeks to see the best results. I cannot justify $1,200 a year on my hair, but that is just me. I do not color or highlight or anything either. I just get a haircut every couple of months. I can justify spending $50 on the treatment on ebay and doing my hair and DD13's hair every other month...that is only $150 a year for each of us. :goodvibes

I am glad to hear that they have changed the formula so there is no longer formaldehyde in the product. I have never used the product but I have heard anyone who does loves it!

It is not formaldehyde free in any way. This has been all over the news. They don't use it in the product but when used, it produces far above the allowable levels.

http://www.mnn.com/lifestyle/natura...y-panel-raises-concerns-about-safety-of-brazi

"The panel’s announcement about the report (PDF) doesn’t specifically name Brazilian Blowout, but notes that “Formaldehyde/methylene glycol are safe in cosmetic products when formulated to ensure use at the minimal effective concentration, but in no case should formaldehyde equivalents exceed 0.2%.”

Since some tests have shown Brazilian Blowout products to produce formaldehyde far above those levels"

Instead, it is said to include a different active ingredient, glycolic acid, along with a new scent

"Glycolic acid is perhaps the best-known of a group of chemicals called fruit acids or alpha-hydroxy acids (AHA). It is derived from sugar cane, so it can be considered a natural product. Citric acid from oranges and other citrus fruits also fall under the same classification as glycolic acid.

Industrial uses for glycolic acid include rust removal and degreasing, so pure glycolic acid (generally sold in concentrations of 70% or better) is extremely dangerous to exposed skin. In fact, the government considers any product with a concentration of glycolic acid over 10% to be a hazardous material."

Hannabelle: I completely agree with you and i know people who have had the $250+ treatment done and it was gone, out of hair by week 3. I'm not kidding.

Would you tell me what you buy from sally's (on line right) so I can try it? you can pm me or i can you if you like.... tHANKS
