Brasilian tour groups?

Yes, and there countless examples of people here complaining (rightfully so) about those individual jerks as well. The reason why the BTGs often get mentioned specifically is because they so often engage AS A GROUP in poor behavior.

Do a search of "Pop Warner" and you'll see lots of generalized statements about the poor behavior of cheerleaders and football players as well. Does this mean ALL cheerleaders and football players are bad people or that others are engaging in "bigotry" against them? Of course not. But there are enough consistent examples of these groups behaving in a manner that warrants criticism. Not because they are cheerleaders, but because of how they conducted themselves. It's the same thing with BTGs.

This, this. !!!! Bingo!!!!!!!!!!! Also spring breakers in Cancun....:rolleyes1

I was just in the 'World' from 1/17 - 1/21/12. I lost track of how many different Brazilian groups we saw. They all have their own shirts, vests, and flags to differentiate each group.

Yes - they travel in hoards and we always made sure we were ahead of them in a line if possible.

Honestly - we didn't see any chanting or singing, and most were pretty well behaved.

What really bothered me was that their group leaders would run ahead and get 50 - 70 fast passes at a clip. Not that they aren't entitled to the fastpasses - but it closed out the popular rides, specifically TSM, by 10:30am. That left nothing for the average family coming into the park. JMO

We were at WDW 1/11-1/17. Now I know why TSM was out of fast passes by the time we got to HS... We didn't make rope drop but were there early so figured we could at least get a fastpass for later. Nope, we ended up doing 2 or 3 things, heading back to the hotel, and going back to HS for EMH and did TSM then.

I agree with you that they weren't rude, but they were such large groups that you could literally get swept into them as they were trying to get by you! And our afternoon at the MK we couldn't even get into Pecos Bills for lunch because of all of the tour groups in there.

Didn't ruin the trip of course, but did make me realize January is not as slow as it used to be!

This is a hot button topic.

The hoards (and that is an appropriate description) tend to be LOUD, rude, obnoxious. They cut in line, pretend not to speak English when confronted and will loudly chant, clap, sing songs while walking through the park, standing in line, waiting for a bus, and sometimes while riding a ride. They've been known to mow down unsuspecting people on pathways, and they are woefully under supervised. A bunch of unruly teens let loose in the parks. Many complain that the guides "clog up" FP lines gathering 50 or more FP's at a time for the group.

I generally just walk the other way when I see them coming.

Welcome to the DIS.
I have to agree. When we were there on 06 at the time my then 3 year old son we were in the restroom. My son had just been potty trained and we were in a stall. It might have been a their adult she was young but older looking started banging on the stall door teling us to hurry up there is a line. I didn't open the door right away because she freaked my son out and I had to calm down. And when I did she was standing there face to face with me. I very calmly said if you do not get out my face she moved before I finished. Then went into the stall and said you americans think you get all the rights here. I didn't say anything else do to my son being there. But now everytime I go to or walk pass that bathroom I get so mad.

But on that same trip a sweet girl in one of the groups was standing in front of us on HM and she turned to my oldest one she didn't speak any english and pointed to my son's shirt. It was a kingdon hearts shirt. She held up a finger as to say one minute. She looked in her bag and pulled out cards with sora's face on them. They weren;t in english and she handed them to my son. To keep. She was so very nice and bent down and played whith him until she got on the ride. So you have the sad and the happy

WHOA! She's lucky you didn't decide to see if that door could open OUTWARD and not inward. Good for you standig your ground. People, usually go "yellow" when faced with someone standing their ground. That's why my DH says. This "woman" had NO right to hurry you and your son. I would have ben LIVID too. I'd probably would have told my DH about her and pointed her out to him as well. Not saying that would have been a good idea, but I'm saying I might have lost my cool. Unfortunately. That wouldn't have gone well so it's good that you were FAR more smart about it that I would have been. Don't anger the momma bears! !!!!!:mad::mad:
My youngest is 4 and we have NO idea when he'll be ready to potty train. His communication skills range right now from a 6-9 month old to am 18 month old and his other abilities aren't anywhere close to his age range. So we often use the companion bathrooms and get knocked on constantly. We need a lot of room unfortunately and he gets VERY weirded out and frantic changing his diaper w/ others around which is why we have to do it that way. I'm afraid I'll lose m cool one day. I pray not.

I've been here over a week and only had two days where I didn't encounter an annoying tour group.

Sunday we were at DHS. My sister, her friend, our cousin and I were on our way over to ToT and we walked by one with all teenagers, mostly girls. We weren't looking at them, just minding our own business and a group of about 3 or 4 girls came up to us and got up in our faces and started screaming at us.

Does anyone familiar with Brazillian culture know if this is a norm for them? A few Brazillian girls did this to my 6 yo nephew when we visited a couple of years ago. It was startling and we just pulled him back, not knowing what they were saying or why they were yelling in his face.

I used to be a CM and I worked a hat cart. Brazilian groups would come in a mob, try on all the hats, take pictures and hurl the hats back on the cart. It would take me an hour to get the cart back to rights.

I have also been in a club with them on Pleasure Island. The Hustle came on and the DJ for some bizarre reason spotlighted them. No Hustle too young to remember just a lot of jumping up and down and chanting. Until several older guests came up and started to do the hustle and then they just drifted off. Ah I miss 8 Tracks.:sad2:

Ah that's weird and scary. Poor kid.

This happened to me at the the base of the up escalator in the building with Soarin'. A large group of them were congregating at the bottom of the up escalator, not getting on. Unbeknownst to me and them, their "guide" had gotten on the escalator and was heading up. I got on while the rest of their group was just standing around talking. When they realized their guide was on the upper level, they flooded the escalator, walking around everyone standing on the escalator. They didn't walk up in single file order, they were crowding and pushing as they walked. It was uncomfortable for me but would've been downright scary and dangerous if they were trying to pass a child or someone with balance issues.

I don't like when they move in unison. They will not yield so it's best to just wait it out while they pass.

That always bugs me no matter WHO does it. I keep trying to tell my family "do you know how many heads have been IN that hat???" We buy them but we never do what they do. I hate it. I find it obnoxious and rude.

Man, I used to do that when I was 10. I wonder if I'd remember it if I heard it. Is it like riding a bike? Can you just fly into "The Hustle" when you hear it at least if others have a clue to help you? GREAT, now that song is in my brain.

Well at least the Brazilian group put the hats back near the cart. I had an American group of teens steal from the cart. The security guard told me. I was busy handling sales and didn't see it but he did and followed them through the park. I didn't get blamed for it. But he saw it.

Sorry about the Hustle song. :cool1::guilty:

And I saw a Brazilian steal a stuffed Shamu at Sea World. There are always apologists for the Brazilians on these type of threads.

I have been going to WDW for many years many times each year. This season they don't seem as bad, the groups seem smaller. But for the most part they are rude, loud, pushy and annoying. Years ago, maybe 15 or 20 when they were having an economic boom, the groups were even worse. And the behavior was appalling.

A buddy of mine managed a large toy store on 441 and Sand Lk. Rd. I went to see him one day when a bus load of them were dropped off to shop. When they left the store was a disaster area, just torn apart. The bathrooms were a mess. Toys were ripped out of the packaging and strewn about the store. We refuse to let them pass us in line push by us in the parks. My wife can speak Portuguese and isn't afraid to put them in their place. It's part of the culture to act the way they do. Try to do business with them, it is very tough for N. Americans to work with them.

I do have a problem with how loud and obnoxious they can be. As a student of cultural anthropology, I believe that a crash course in what/what is not appropriate for theme parks would be of benefit. I understand the excitement of going to Disney World but....

I would never go to another country without learning a little bit of their language OR their culture.

These people who can't speak English should learn the basics.

Although 95% of the tour groups I've encountered were "non" speaking whether it be by pretend or for real. I did encounter a small group who asked about our football jerseys last week. We were all wearing our Ravens jerseys for the big game last Sunday and I was shocked and amazed that some of them knew what it was. It was obvious they knew a little bit about our culture which was refreshing.

Some of them are so oblivious about whats going on around them a CM was trying to get through with his trash cart, literally starting scream "excuse me" many times and they were all too busy yelling at each other in their native tongue.

Brings me to another topic. I sat down to wait for the Epcot firework show, and about 30 of them decided to sit down next to me. They were all so loud. I didn't understand. The group of girls who sat next to me were literally screaming at the person next to them. They were the loudest ones there and I just didn't understand why they couldn't lower their voices. :sad2:

Today was good. I didn't see any large tour groups. I saw some small school groups who were well behaved.:thumbsup2

I kinda wondered the same thing. We went this month and there were A LOT of them but none of them were rude, cutting, pretending not to speak English, etc.

They did chant but I thought it was neat.

Where do the Brazilian tour groups usually stay? We've never seen them at the resorts.

A number of years ago we stayed at the Comfort Inn lake Buena Vista (think it is called the Clarion Inn now) during January when my husband was running the Disney World Marathon...there was a big group from Brazil there...at that time that hotel included a free contnental breakfast...it was bedlam when this large group all arrived at once...but don't remember them being unruly..
