My daughter bought a pair of sandals at PacSun. They are flat with a white strap and beige straw-like material on the foot part. They are made by Flojos and she paid $17.00 for them. Well, she wore them once, then put them in her closet. I kept smelling this awful smell whenever I went into her bedroom. I looked everywhere for the smell, (food under the bed? dirty clothes?). When I opened her closet the smell was terrible, and I finally, by sniffing, realized it was her new sandals. They have an awful smell on the foot part, almost like body odor, (I know, TMI). None of my daughter's other shoes, (or anything!), smell like these sandals. I've tried baby powder on them, foot powder, perfume, but nothing gets rid of the smell. I ended up putting them outside on the back porch, and that's where they're going to stay.

Anyone else ever run into this problem? I would just throw them out, but she did pay a lot for them. Maybe I should take them back to the store, and let them get a whiff of them.:D

It sounds like the foot of the shoe was made with hemp which is a straw-like material. It stinks something crazy. I think I'd be taking those back because you don't want people thinking you have stinky feet!

Sometimes my brand new flip flops stink...if I get them wet and let them air dry, they smell better :)

mckryan- That's exactly what I was thinking. I don't want her wearing the sandals and having people think it's her feet that need washing! It is a straw-like material, by the way.

Either bring them back or toss them - lesson learned: do not buy the straw shoes. :)

I had to laugh as I read your post. The same exact thing happened to me! I bought a pair of LandsEnd sandals and boy did they stink. I could clear out a room in a matter of seconds..jeez.

No advice to give. I ended up throwing them away. The smell really was horrendous. I just want to add that my feet only smelled with this particular pair .

Mary:D

As crazy as this may sound, try using a spray anti-persperant/Deoderant on them....Arrid X-tra Dry is great for this problem

LOL, I had that happen with a Dooney & Bourke purse. It smelled up the whole house. I kept thinking it would wear off but it didn’t. I returned it to the store and it was so embarrassing to explain that I was returning it because it stinks. They had managers coming over and smelling it and no one could explain it. It was pretty funny.

You might want to make a paste out of baking soda and water and let it sit on them for a while. I use cloth diapers, many of which are made out of hemp, and I have to put baking soda in the wash from time to time to keep them from getting stinky. (The hemp in my diapers is a soft fabric, not straw, but it's still made from a similar product.)
