Brag on my Dear Husband, US Army Soldier

Wednesday night DH got a phone call from another soldier saying to check his email.

He did, then he came to me and asked me to come look at it. I could tell he was excited, but trying very hard to contain it. DH is not the kind of guy who shows emotions easily.

He said "I think this means I just made E-8. I'm not sure. Maybe its a joke, the list isn't supposed to be released until tomorrow."

He didn't sleep a wink that night.

Thursday around 7 am, he gets the official word.
He made it!

With only 13 years of service in, he was the only person in his command to get the promotion!!!!! This was his first time going before the E-8 promotions board and he didn't think there was any way he would make it. Very few make it their first time.
I can't believe how fast he is climbing the ranks. He was just promoted a couple of years ago to E-7! (BTW he just turned 30, so he is also very young to get this, everyone calls him Babyface)

I am just so FREAKING proud of him, I could cry!!!!

I don't understand the letter/number combinations, but I DO understand 'promotion' and that he is excelling quickly. Your DH must be a VERY GOOD SOLDIER and you have every right to be proud!

WOO HOO!!!!!!!!!! Congrats to you all! Hubby chose a tough rate in the Navy to get advancements. Almost as bad as waiting for an old person to die so you can sit at the big persons table on holidays.....lol. There is a guy on his ship who was flying on his way home for retirement when he got word he made advancement. He turned around....lol.

Hubby got word he made E-7 a few years ago when we were at Disney. He did not even bother to tell me he made board (did not think he would make advancement). I wondered why he was in such a crabby mood the entire vacation. He ruined the vacation for everyone with his attitude...lol. We were in Epcot one day and he was freaking out that he could not get online. I had no idea why. I felt a bit slighted that he did not share the anticipation with me, but was thrilled he made advancement! I was so excited that I was gonna be at the frocking ceremony. Then, 9/11 happened and the ship had to head for NY Harbor. They had the ceremony a few days later on the ship and I missed it.

Congrats to your hubby. The extra pay is always a welcome touch and an extra stripe is gonna be nice to see.

The letters are as follows....E means enlisted and O means officer. The numbers go from 1-9.....1 being someone who just went in to the military and with the Navy, the first 3 go pretty fast...a couple of years. By the time you get to E-6, things slow down REALLY fast. Making E-7 is like waiting for an old person to die so you can sit at the big persons table on holidays. Speed of rank advancement depends on how many people are in your job (or rate as it is called in the Navy). FOr example, one year, in my husbands rate, they only advanced 3 people in the entire Navy. WHen you have hundreds fighting for that advancement, you see your chances of getting it. The next year the odds were better and they advanced 18. It just depends on the militarys need. (waiting for someone to retire...lol). If Chims hubby were in the Navy, he would be very envied (probably is in the Army too). Having less than 13 years in the Navy and making E-7 is a miracle!!!!!!!!! E-8 is incredible....not impossible, but pretty darn impressive!!!!!!!!!!!! THey truly have something to be happy about! Hope this explains it.
