My friend's daughter has a brachial plexus injury from birth where the nerves in the shoulder have been torn. She does not have full use of her left arm and has had multiple surgeries (another this fall). We are planning a trip to WDW in January and am wondering if she would be eligible for those special passes I have heard about with special needs.

She has to be careful about getting her arm in the sun (I'm not sure why) as well as she has low muscle tone and has difficulty standing for great periods of time. Since we have planned to go in January with lower crowds, it may not be an issue, but I told my friend I would check out what the members of the Disboards had to say!

TIA!

Hi and :welcome: to disABILITIES!

If you click on where it says "disABILTIES" at the top of this page it will take you to the Index. One of the top items is the "disABILTIES FAQ" which will gives lots of useful information. I would suggest especially reading Post #6, which deals with the Guest Assistance Card.

And how old (or what size) is the child. The normal Guest Services response to mobility or stamina problems is to rent a wheelchair (or ECV if age-appropriate). It is possible to get a GAC (and tag) which will allow the use of a stroller as a wheechair.

Or, if you want an easier route, click on the link in my signature.

Just agreeing with Cheshire Figment.

She (if she's older) or her parents would need to explain her needs.
The Guest Assistance Card is not a pass (i. e. is not meant to give immediate access or bypass lines). It is basically an information card so the CMs have some way of knowing what needs someone has if their needs are not easily visible.
