Could anyone please tell me their experience with this type of surgery? I know I need it done due to the fact that I have had chronic neck/back pain. TIA!

I had it done around 1999 because I had uneven girls. One was a DD and the other was a B at best. I now have scars that look like a ships anchor, and it took some time (years) for the "feeling" to come back all over. As I said though, mine was done 10 years ago, and there have been many advancements since then. Good luck - its not a hard surgery as far as surgeries go, it was in and out for me and not even done in a hospital but a surgery center. Just make sure to take all your pain meds, stay in bed for a few days, and you'll be fine.

ETA that I do know someone whos split open months after her surgery. I don't know the details as to why it happened i.e. what she did to make it happen or what, but I just wanted to let you know that.

Had surgery done back in 2002 and it was the best thing I ever done. I didn't have any complications, no spitting stitches or anything, but I took really good care of myself. Didn't lift for a good 3 weeks and I had 1.5 yr old at the time, I rested and ate a high protein diet. I do have the anchor scarring like above poster - but even my obgyn said that my surgery was the best he has ever seen.

Had mine done about 3 years ago. Best thing I ever did for myself. I did have some complications - they told me that the more they need to remove the more likely you are to have complications. The scars are minimal. I did follow all of the rules they gave me - no lifting, no using the vac, no driving - it was difficult to follow them but it aids in healing.

I had it done 14 years ago. Best thing I ever did. I had minimal pain-never needed more than regular Tylenol. It was called a 23 hour hospital stay-but really I was in overnight. I got very sick from the anesthesia(throwing up the whole next day) but other than that-no problems. My scars are not pretty but that doesn't bother me. I also lost feeling in one but it was worth it to me. Good luck!

I had it done a few years ago, and I still have some very mixed feelings about it. I am very happy about the pain relief that I have due to the reduced size. My surgery went well, I was released from the surgical center two hours after the surgery, and had to go into the DRs office on the third day home to have the drains removed, dressings changed. I did have a fair amount of pain for the first 4 days, after that was nothing too crazy at all. I have had to have three fix it jobs since the first original...the first two under general, and the third with some freezing (wasn't a good experience at all). All were to correct what the DR called "dog ears". I do have the anchor scar, but mine continues under my arms to my back...it continues that far due to the fix it jobs. I have most of my feeling back, but it has changed...some things feel uncomfortable on them now. Also, I do not care for their shape, they really seem to be bottoming out..not sure how do describe that on here...lol I feel that they are not the right shape at all, and I am ashamed of them. I do not want to go back to my surgeon about it, I have had enough with surgeries for these two!! LOL

Had mine done about 2 years ago. Reason b/c Being a petite girl, DD+ (never really measured them past that) sized bra was just something a 20 year old girl should have.
So my parents had the procedure done for me for christmas (my aunt performed the procedure...she is a plastic surgeon...so I was in really good care) and let me tell you. BEST THING EVER.

I'm now a large B, small C.
I also have the anchor shaped scars, and for the longest time I felt horrible about the scars (mine are really bad since the skin necrotized...meaning it died due to lack of blood circulation) and it took a while for me to be comfortable in my own skin again.

The procedure is really easy, really quick, they may need you to stay over night (might not), and for about the next month you are told not to raise your arms (no t-shirt...all front button, same with bras...I would advise front clasp bras or sport bras, since the wire can be quite painful). No lifting of ANYTHING...wouldn't want the stitches to open. You may or may not get a drainage tube put in.
And the swelling wont go down for about 6 month...meaning you'll notice them getting smaller and smaller as time goes by.

Just remember to keep your weight down so they don't get bigger.

And yeah, if anything go speak to a doctor. Do some more on-line research .

On Monday at 7PM Easter time I think MTV is going to be re-airing its True Life Documentary about 3 girls who don't like the size of their breasts. I think you should try to catch that. Might answer some more questions.

I had mine 22 years ago, and the scars are barely visible. Healing wasn't bad at all, and I was SO much happier. I couldn't breasfeed, however, which bummed me out a little, but who knows if I would've been successful if I hadn't had it done. As with every plastic surgery, get at least 3 consults (which you will probably have to pay for). Insurance usually covers the cost.

yes actually. In my case I needed the go ahead for the surgery from my regular doc so that the insurance would cover it.
And usually the docs know where to go from there.

My wife had this done 3.5 years ago. Recovery was more painful than her hysterectomy that she had a couple of months prior. But, her neck and back pains are completly gone.

Same here - had it done 14 years ago and got sick on the anesthesia as well . But it was the best decision I ever made. I was sore afterwards for a bit and felt like the bride of Frankenstein, but it was worth it. I went from (ready for this) a FF to a comfortable C.

After having DS7, I now understand why my doctor said to us that it was a good thing we didn't have kids yet (we were only engaged at that time).

I started with the surgeon.

It might depend on insurance though- whether or not you need a referral to a specialist. I didn't.


I got it done in 2007. Best decision I ever made, that is for sure!!

Had mine 15 years ago. Same anchor scars. I have no feeling on the underside of my breasts and decided not to have the "dog ears" re-done. No surgical complications and would do it again in a heartbeat.

My sister-in-law had hers a year later, same surgeon, nothing but complications. Said she wished she had never done it at all.

I have another question... Did anyone's insurance co pay for this procedure? After researching the net, I see that it can be difficult for people to get an ins co to pay. I am 40 pounds overweight (and working on it) and am wondering if that will be a factor that will cause the ins not to pay. I was looking forward to hearing what the ps will have to say during my consultation but now I am chickening out because the only way I can get this done is with ins. Thanks for listening!!

I've had 2 breast surgery's. Yep, I said 2.

The women in my family are short with huge knockers. The men are slim and tall. I got the best of both. I'm 5'11 and at the age of 17, I wore a 40 DD. After my first child was born, they went up to a 42DD. Then after my DS was born weighing in over 11 pounds, they went up to a 44DD. My shoulders were cut up from the bra straps. My back was killing me. So I had my first surgery in January 2000. I was perfect afterwards. I went down to a 36C. No more back pain and neck pains. Then in August of 2002, I had my baby boy. He was born at 34 weeks and he already weighed over 7 pounds. So he did a mess on my body! I wasnt able to breast feed because of the first breast reduction, but I had no regrets, but I had a hard time getting rid of the baby weight. One grew and one didnt. I started having the back pains all over again. I went back to my doctor, he wanted me to have the breast checked out for lumps, if everything panned out, he would agree to another reduction. I had my last surgery July 2005, and went back down to a 38C. My insurance cover the cost on both surgeries.
