My 16 year old son soon to be (tomorrow!) 17 years old has reasonably long hair. If it wasn't curly it would be much longer. He keeps it neat and we can see his eyes. I think it looks good on him. He has golden ringlets.

So today he comes home from school and tells me one of his friends that had longer hair then he does is bald. Not a crew cut but bald. His parents paid he and his brother $500 each to shave their heads. You know whats coming next right?

So my son is telling me this story and I said if you're waiting for the same offer it isn't coming. He said no, I would never shave my head bald but I would get a crew cut...for $500! Dream on my boy, dream on.:lmao::rotfl::rotfl2:

I'm thinking these parents were desperate to have their boys cut their hair. I guess the boys named their price.:rotfl:

:rotfl2: um yeah not happening here. My son has longer hair- shoulder length- but not all one length- It is "styled":rotfl2: He did get a buzz 2 years ago and said it was my Mother's day present.

We had a bunch of children in our school a few years ago get crew cuts - boys and girls. The hair was donated to a place that makes wigs for cancer patients...

I can't help but to think that these parents, and many others like them, must lead very boring lives if their biggest concern is their kid's hair. Seriously, its just HAIR! No big deal - cut it off and it grows right back. Why do people make such an issue of it? $500??? Wow...:confused3

My 2 1/2 year old granson has the most adorable mullet you'll ever see! The long part of it goes to the middle of his back and his mom keeps the top short enough to spike with some gel. He is so cute!

I can't imagine paying a kid to cut his hair. If they like it long, let them keep it long.

lmao!! wow...if my son wants long hair...afro.,..corn rows...mohawk...I don't care..because Like i've had my hair in those styles..except my mohawk was a Fauxhawk :) but I would never pay my child $500 to do anything!!!!!!! that's so hilarious!!

My boys have had really long hair, and really short hair. I actually like the long shaggy look on them, as long as it's clean. But they get tired of it and want it cut short. I prefer it long. If they wanted a mullet or dreads, I might consider paying for an alternative.

DH is ridiculous about DS' hair. The irony is that DH had absolutely AWFUL shoulder-length hair when he was in his mid-teens. Of course, he says that's why he is giving DS such a hard time -- he thinks that if he has better hair he'll have a better social life. ;)

DS is 12, so he's a bit hygienically challenged yet. The school rules also say that his hair can't go past his collar. His hair is naturally wavy like DH's, so it does get sloppy looking when it's longer. When he's a bit older and has gotten better about keeping it clean, I'll buck Dad to let him grow it as long as he keeps it properly cared-for.

Pay him to cut it, however? Not gonna happen.

Personally, I think that is genius by both the parents and the kids.

I personally wouldn't do it, but I'm guessing a parent who gives $500 bribes for anything is used to spending big bucks on their kids and it's not a big deal.

I see teens with cars, laptops, expensive hobby stuff, whatever, paid for by parents. I don't really see a difference. It's all about what you value and what you're willing to spend. My kids are stuck with cheap parents, so they pretty much get minimal on everything, but if you want to spend more - I say spend it on what you value.

$500? Make them cut it or do it while they are sleeping!

We are witnessing history on the DIS . . .this may be the first time that the phrase "adorable mullet" has been used.

Adorable and mullet don't go together...even for a 2.5 year old.

I love that he considered that your Mother's Day present! :thumbsup2 I do have a Birthday coming up - :rotfl2:

My husband and I have discussed this with my son. It remains to be seen if he feels the same way. This child has enough hair to go around, and then some. :) I would love to see him donate it. He can grow it again.

I wonder if there is something to that. When this son was younger I let his hair grow long too. His brother has never had long hair, now or when he was younger. Hmmm Maybe I encouraged this.

Better hair = a better social life? I dont know about that. I do think that he would be respected, trusted, and taken more seriously with shorter hair. I also think thats a shame. We have shown him examples of that thinking and he agrees. This kid is brilliant, but the long haired teenager stereotype rears its ugly head at times. Judging a book by its cover. It will be interesting to see if he keeps it this way or has a change of heart.

Why was your husbands hair awful? I bet he doesn't want your son treated the way he was.

My son knows he isn't getting paid to cut his hair. Not by me anyway.

Not the first time its been used in my family!

Wow! That was long! Way to go though. Is he growing it again? Handsome boys.:)

Thank you - I think they're cute, but I have a tendency to be biased. ;)

Yeah - his dad pulled what your son's friend's parent's did. He donated it but he also did it for cash. Irritated me. Bigger fish to fry, IMO.

Anyways - yes, he is growing it again.

I use to have really long hair but cut it real quick (military would not allow it)
