Throughout the summer, my son and the neighborhood boys were on their bikes or scooters or skateboards.

They have fun, but I worry about cars driving down the street.

So now fall is at hand, and what are they all doing? Seems like everyone got a new pair of in-line skates, and they'll rolling around on those.

I was very hesitant about buying my son a pair of skates. I really don't want him on them. We spent enough time already in the emergency room this year.

Didn't matter though. A friend down the block gave my son a pair that he'd outgrown.

So now I have a kid on skates, that is, when he's not on his bike. Or his scooter.

What is it about boys and wheels? Why do they always have to be on the go?

Honestly, I wish I could wrap my kid up in bubble plastic and keep him in there for the 13 years or so.

In-line skates! :scared1:

How old is your son? Mine is 3 and just LOVES playing with all the older boys on the street. :earseek: He has a bike, a scooter, and tries riding their skateboards. There's one kid who's 6, all the others are closer to 11 or older. At least it's pretty easy to get him to wear a helmet.

I'm jealous. I never had the coordination to use inline skates. :)

I'm sure he'll be fine. Does he have a helmet?

He just turned 8, Beth. Good luck with your boy on wheels--you've only just begun!

DS has two helmets. He's good about wearing one when he's riding his bike, but I'm not so sure it's always on when he's doing his other "wheeled" activities.

Frankly, I'm worried about broken limbs when he's on those skates. Darn things! I was so not ready for them.

Yo Janice! Good to see you! Make sure he has elbow and knee pads! He's a boy;) he's suposed to get hurt ( not seriously though! )

Hey when I was young - 5 yrs old - I fell down a flight of steps and cut my jugular vein on glass!!! I was read my last rights etc! What I put my parents through! I still had a bike, skates, skateboard etc. Mom was always a wreck. But that's what boys do - they make their parents grey LOL!

Fortunately, my son is pretty coordinated-even at 3! I still worry though. He knows he's supposed to look for cars, but I have seen him forget a few times. Problem is he thinks he's a "big kid" now and to the other big kids, he's just a baby. They're pretty nice to him though, but he still can't do all the things that they can do.
