Creed, great movie, great performance by Michael B Jordan, black actor, black director, not nominated. Sky Stallone was for his role, though.
Beasts of No Nation, Idris Elba, Cary Fukanaga... No nomination.
Straight Outta Compton... Black director, black actors, music created by great black musicians... Not nominated
Not racist towards white people. Prejudiced, but not racist.

Laughable & delusionalDid I read that Mad Max was nominated for Best Picture? If you ask me, that is the biggest travesty right there!

From Wikipedia "In late December ballots and copies of the Reminder List of Eligible Releases are mailed to around 6,000 active members. For most categories, members from each of the branches vote to determine the nominees only in their respective categories (i.e. only directors vote for directors, writers for writers, actors for actors, etc.). In all major categories, voters use an instant run-off voting ballot, with potential nominees rewarded in the single transferable vote tally for having strong supporters who rank them first.[35] There are some exceptions in the case of certain categories, like Foreign Film, Documentary and Animated Feature Film, in which movies are selected by special screening committees made up of members from all branches. In the special case of Best Picture, all voting members are eligible to select the nominees for that category. Foreign films must include English subtitles, and each country can submit only one film per year.[36]"I'd like more clarification if you don't mind. Race relations might have a lot to do with the lack of representation at the Oscars so I'm not clear on where the line is.
I was just reiterating a point in a movie I agree with. Many people (many with degrees in African American Studies and Sociology) have written on this topic and agree with it. My opinion is my opinionJust because one person in one movie said it doesn't make it true.Laughable & delusional
You know I am done with this, until these actors do something proactive - sit down & shut up!

I thought Michael B Jordan was outstanding.
One of the best, if not the best, television shows of all time called The Wire was never nominated for a major award. The majority of the cast was black. And, the showrunners were told that they needed to add more white people to the show because they didn't want to lose viewers. This show is on the top list of every "Best TV Shows Ever" list. Incredible show, ahead of its time, full of racially diverse characters. Snubbed from all major awards. This is a real issue.
And again, just because someone has money, doesn't exempt them from persecution. Sure, they might not have it as hard, but the persecution and prejudice STILL exist.

Funny that you should mention this. The people filming the show Nashville have been told they need to add black people to the show in order to stay on the air. Published calls for extras have mentioned the need for minority people. I am not saying that this show is thought as highly as The Wire but we are kind of fond of it around here. One of the best, if not the best, television shows of all time called The Wire was never nominated for a major award. Ok, so what about Idris Elba, or SLJ? Both great performances, critically acclaimed.I'm not trying to be mean or pick on you but you do realize that you thinking he was outstanding doesn't make it an injustice because he wasn't nominated, right? From what (little) I read most people don't think he was slighted for not being nominated. Being good v. being one of the best in a field that is limited are two vastly different things and it certainly doesn't mean he was "persecuted" by a long stretch.

I honestly haven't seen any of these movies.
I think SLJ's problem is he's a bit of a type cast. You (maybe somebody else???) posted a list of all the various roles he's played but IMO they're all the same dude with a different name and costume for the most part. Don't get me wrong - he's good but the best at his craft? Not by a long shot.
I judge an actor on if he/she can make me forget its the actor I'm watching and immerse me in the character. For example, I think Stallone becomes Rocky but I always know it's SLJ I'm watching.
Does that make sense?
It'd be nice if we could all just get over it and stop dividing ourselves like this. It's getting harder and harder to raise your child not to see people for what's on the outside when it's constantly thrown in our faces.
I also think that the best start to fix this is having it NOT be about minority movies or roles but that "regular" movies need to be cast with a wide variety of people in them. That's the only way to appeal to a wide variety of the population.

A show with some of the best acting to ever be shown on television, and the Emmy's went to two white writers. It was nominated for two Emmy's and has 47 other nominations. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0306414/awards

I've heard a whole lot of actors say they would be nothing without the words that were written for them.A show with some of the best acting to ever be shown on television, and the Emmy's went to two white writers.
Sense a pattern here?
