I don't think so....." Impressions de France" is one my favorite things in WS. It was one of those happy accidents. It was late June in 1987 and my late DF was with us. It was a sweltering day and we just decided to duck in there to get out of the heat. There were seats in there!! My DF got cooled off and FELL ASLEEP! But we loved the show so much we went back a second time so he could see what he had missed. Still one of my favorites and I think of DF everytime I hear the music.

There are going to be a lot of tough decisions to make in the months, perhaps even the years, ahead. We have known from the beginning that our enemies would be difficult to identify, but it might be easier to go with who our friends are.

President Bush said shortly after the 9/11/01 attacks that the countries of the world are either with us or against us. I realize that things are not that simple, but it's certainly a place to start.

Everyone will have to make their own decisions.

I'm curious. . . has anyone heard calls to boycot Germany in anyway? I don't think China is backing us; has anyone suggested we not see the movie there?

Personally, I don't how avoiding eating a buffet or not seeing a movie in a theme park is a valuable form of protest. . .

I love that movie too Sandy. . . far and away my favorite at WDW, and being able to sit down and watch it is definitely one of the reasons. . LOL!! ;) :teeth:

Nope,I love the food at Chefs de France and besides Satine is from Paris;)

 Not me. WDW is the place that I go to escape the "real world" if only for a few days and World Showcase is my absolute favorite. I love to relax there and enjoy what each "country" has to offer. I see a boycott of any country of WS utimately as a boycott of WDW and that is not what they need right now. I think there are more appropriate places to show your disapproval of France and the position they are taking with Iraq right now.

I think I'll boycott anyone born in Germany.

Now DH will just have to tell his mother she can't come over anymore. LOL

let's not bring the craziness of the real world into Disneyworld.

You have to consider who you are actually boycotting. It may be a representation of France but it's still Disney. I wouldn't avoid any of the countries in the World Showcase based on political differences. Also, we have our differences now but France is still our ally and will remain so after this war is over.

Although I do not believe all French, Germans, etc. are boycottable, my family will not be dining at those restaurants during our trips.

Also, China has so far, backed America. I believe Bush was calling the Chinese President today for UN backing.

:bounce: :bounce:

Epcot Greek and adamak make some good points.

WDW is, in fact the place we go to escape the real world and should be exempt from all that crazy stuff. I almost forgot that Epcot, and World Showcase in particular, is my favorite place to go. It's the atmosphere, not the politics, that makes it so special.

Perhaps we can leave the real world and the war at I-4 and just enjoy the beauty of the place, the movies, the food, the entertainment, and most of all, the common love for WDW.

Thanks, guys, for the reminder. :D

Maybe we should boycott oil? That might be the logical place to start. Ooops, that might prove to be too painful for some Americans.

LOL Donna!!!! :teeth:

I stand corrected on the China issue- I confused it with the North Korea deal. . . my bad. . :) :) :)

And fior the record, I believe everyone has not only the right but the obligation to do what they think is right- I just personally agree that visiting a country in Epcot is not an endorsement of that countries stance on this one situation. . :) :)

Pig Pen

You hit the nail on the head. It's far easier to boycott Beaujolais then super unleaded.

I was born in Germany. But to confuse matters, my family was there because my father was in the Air Force and stationed in Germany.

Sometimes it really is a small world. ;)

Oh come on now Plano Girl!!!

No matter how strongly you feel about this issue either way, putting that song in your opponent's head is uncalled for!!!

LOL!!! ;)

Good Greif! Do you quit talking to all your friends who don't agree with you on every issue? If so, then I guess maybe you just better stay in the Magic Kingdom, because I KNOW that the US has disagreed with just about every nation in the World Showcase on something. (I mean you do recall we had a war with the United Kingdom???)

yeah, and this sure isn't one of them. c'mon, this is just silly!

regardless of china's involvement or non-involvment in this current fiasco, they are not exactly a government that i would want to support.

I want to start by saying that I would never presume to tell someone how they should react to a situation like this. If some of you feel like your best response is to boycott, that is entirely your business.

On the other hand, my personal feelings are that those countries don't care and won't even know that you are boycotting them at Disney World. The CM's from the country involved and Disney will be the ones that suffer.

Call me silly if you want. I always feel a little like an ambassador when I'm in the World Showcase. I try to make up for the tourists that are disagreeable to be around. I always try to be cheerful and pleasant to CM's, but in World Showcase I try even harder. I take an interest in where they are from and let them tell me about their home. I feel like those people are guests in our country and I want them to go home with good feelings about us. Who knows, the person you are kind to might be making decisions at the UN someday. In this day and time, our country can use all the friends it can get around the world. This may be even more true in the countries that are taking a stand against us. Just something to think about.
