We have a very nice neighborhood. It's all very quiet and the neighbors really keep to themselves.

If they're out, you wave, say "hi", etc. We've lived here for almost 7 years.

Now, there is this one lady who lives 4 doors down who must really, really dislike us!!

She has a riding mower that she uses to cut grass, etc. In the winter time she puts her snow plow attachment on and does sidewalks.

Well last winter I was in my bedroom looking out the window at all the snow one day and she was out doing her sidewalk, then proceed onto the next house, and the next, and the next... then she came to our house... she drove her mower out into the street, drove past our house and then back onto the sidewalk and mowed the next sidewalk.

Now, I know that she does mow grass for extra money, so I'm sure she plows for extra $$ too. But I know for a fact that the two houses on either side of us and the next one over do NOT pay her or ask for her to plow the snow.

So, there she was again yesterday... mowing all the sidewalks on both sides of the street and she drove into the street to go past our house again.

I don't know what I did to make her so upset?? I know when they first moved here, about 2/3 years ago I saw here in a store and called her by the wrong name, Tammy not Tina, but have apologized for it. I have walked down to their house to tell her about cool programs that her kids might enjoy during the summer.

I am not upset about this.. I actually think it's kinda funny all the trouble she goes through to avoid our house.

what do you all think??

Why not take some Christmas cookies to her house. That would be something that would not seem out of place. Maybe she thinks you don't like her for some reason. Take the first step forward. Maybe things will improve.

I would suggest the same thing.... bring her some cookies.

Are you SURE that the neighbours haven't entered into some kind of "contract" with her? If they haven't ??? :confused3 I can see someone maybe doing the houses directly beside them and NOT wanting to do everyone elses ... but to go out of her way when it probably takes her longer to go onto the street to bypass your house than to just continue on the sidewalk??? :rotfl2:

This would become the neighbourhood joke in my house !

ETA: I like the Christmas cookie idea too!

Mary-Liz

I like the Christmas cookie idea! I would do that with my neighbor who hates us (or maybe he hates everyone :rotfl: ), but he would probably think that I was trying to poison him. :teeth:

I like the cookie idea to...

Ring her bell and when she answers say " I just wanted to wish you a Merry Christmas, Tammy, i mean Tina..." :rotfl2:

Just kidding but the cookie idea is good...

:rotfl2: What a strange bird!

I also agree with the cookie idea. If things don't improve after that, you've done what you can and can get on with your life and have a good laugh at her.

I would think it was funny too. Maybe she knows the other neighbors better? I have to admit though, I'd be tempted to go out with the shovel right as she was driving past and see if she says anything! If you've always been friendly I'd just keep it up and not make any extra efforts.

ok.. I am going to have to try the cookie idea.

Had to laugh, since I did the same thing to my neighbour when we first moved here. Even worse, I called her Mary, which is her dog's name (!), while her actual name is Molly. (To this day I still think Molly should be the dog name and Mary the person name but oh well. LOL. Oh well, I still think I should be given brownie points for remembering at least the dog's name.)

But anyway, do you happen to have a snowblower? I remember a neighbour in my old neighbourhood used to do everyone's sidewalk and driveways except this one neighbour, and he said that was because he saw that one neighbour had a snowblower (everyone else shovelled) so he didn't think they needed the help. Could it be something like that?

nope we don't have one. My dh goes out and shovels the driveway and sidewalk so we can drive/walk, but not as often as he should

AHEM...and Molly should be the dog's name why????? ;)

That is really weird. I wouldn't take her no stinkin' cookies! ;)

Okay maybe this will sound a little bad but wth.....at my old house - we just moved last month...we lived on a very narrow old street...10 yrs we were there.. we had a snow blower and a mix of old and young neighbors all types too....it was a twin - we plowed our own land and the twin attached to us
my neighbor attached would always take care of salt for both places in rtn..
we also would do our closes friends 2 homes down opp. side of street for her
..her hubby was a head maint for local college and was gone when it snowed for over 24 hrs most times and left it for her to do - since we are very close like family we always did it for her even though she would insist we didn't....
now every now and then depending on how bad the snow was hubby would venture off and do a few other close neigbors on the street just to be nice.
but for all different reasons there are homes we would never even offer to do..not that this is your case in any means - but these folks never offer
to help others out on the street in any situation so we figured why should we
help you....these are also the same ones taht will wait for you to dig your car out and take your spot and never do one for themselves....So people have there own reason for not doing things for others....NOT that I think you did anything to her or not for her to do this to you in any manner but sometimes people have hidden thoughts.

Oh, crap. Sorry. Nothing like jumping out of the frying pan (one neighbour) and into the frying pan (thousands of potential enemies now). :scared: LOL.

Is there an insert-foot-in-mouth smilie??

Seriously, I really do like the name Molly. :worship:

I just happened to have known a few dogs that were Mollys. Anywho, I'll shut up now.

:rotfl2: You can borrow my foot--I'm not using it right now! :teeth:

You need the famous DIS saying...Crap on a Cracker! I'll have to say that I've known Molly to be used as a dog's name and never heard Mary used as a dog's name. Most Mollys I know, though, have been people and I also like the name. :teeth:

If you go to your neighbors with cookies I'll do the same. Could be fun! :rotfl:
