Sleeping Beauty really IS dull as dirt!! (Sorry, Julie! :flower3:)

Neither one of us had seen it in years, so we watched it this weekend. As soon as it was over I looked at DH2B and said, "Holy mackarel, Kevin wasn't kidding".

Cinderella is my favorite princess movie (obviously) and I couldn't believe the difference. That one just has so much more personality, IMO.

I will say, some great characters came from SB (the fairies, Millificent), but a I didn't feel anything for the princess or her parents.

What other "great" movies do you think really aren't all that great?

Did you not pay attention to the gorgeous artwork in "Sleeping Beauty"? It's a masterpiece!!!

The artwork is beautiful, I'm not arguing that. But as far as entertainment goes....zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.............:rolleyes1

I'm getting tired of all this Sleeping Beauty hate speech. :goodvibes

Aurora Rules!!!!! princess:princess:princess:princess:

It is my favorite movie and I can't be swayed by others' blindness!!!! {{{this is when we need a "stomp my foot down in protest and pout with my bottom lip " smiley}}}

I think Sleeping Beauty is a fantastic movie. The artwork is beautiful and that final scene with the dragon is great. Not to mention, the Phillip was one of the first princes with personality, which I liked.

However, when I think about "great" movies that were not that good, I think of The Nightmare Before Christmas. I do not get the appeal of that movie at all.

LOL! Maybe one like this: :offtopic: , if we could just change the sign to read "Leave my princess alone!" :rotfl:

I can agree that Prince Phillip was the better of the princes. But, to me, it was like they switched roles ~ this time the princess didn't have a lot of personality, but the prince did. On the whole, I still stick to my OP. The movie was lacking something in the way the story was told and I just couldn't connect to it.

I agree about The Nightmare Before Christmas. I love Tim Burton, but I just don't get the appeal of that one, either. I do enjoy the TNBC HM overlay at DL during the holidays, though.

How could I not open a thread entitled "Boy, Kevin was right"????

I understand that it's a beautifully drawn movie....but it's dull.

I kinda feel the same way about Fantasia.

I get the fact that they are artistic masterpieces and that saying they are dull is heresy but.....I still think they are pretty...but boring.

I feel the same way about the Merchant / Ivory films of the 80's and 90's.

I started going back and seeing movies I hadn't seen in a long time.

Sword in the Stone - wow, really difficult to watch. The whole movie was going round in silly circles while you wait for the big moment. Dissapointment.

The Black Cauldron - I know this isn't considered a "classic" (at least in the US), but that was lame. However, I do think that was the last movie of the "dark period" of Disney.

Alice in Wonderland - good music & artwork, but just not quite as good as I remembered.

I have 2 movies waiting for me on my DVR: Peter Pan & Fox and the Hound.

I'm sure one won't disappoint, but the other might.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. :goodvibes

Now having said that -

Leave My Princess Alone!!!!!! princess:princess:princess:princess:princess: ( I really need to work on a pouty smiley that stomps her foot to get the full effect) :rotfl2:

The Fox and the Hound is one of my favorite Disney movies, and by far the best to come out of the eighties. That, however, is definitely a minority opinion. Yes, it does make you bawl like a baby and very dark, but the story is so touching and poignant that it more than makes up for it.

I have actually never seen Peter Pan in its entirety. I have always meant to, but never gotten the chance.

Yeah, I definitely see why you would say that. Aurora's personality is pretty one-dimensional. Then again, she's asleep for half the movie. Whatever, I still love it. :thumbsup2

I have never been able to get through Alice in Wonderland. Now that's a boring movie.

Not to rake the coals or anything, but I once heard that of all the "title" characters in Disney Films, Princess Aurora has the second-least amount of dialog. Second only to Dumbo, who never speaks.

And that's actually one of my favorites! We watched it just before we watched SB. I always thought the context of it was really forward for it's time.

You just committed the biggest mistake EVER by telling Kevin that he was right. I will never do that....heh.... ;)

I love Sleeping Beauty. I think that the characters are great, too. I hated Fantasia, but see it for its artistic merit. I don't know how you all could compare SB to it!

As far as Alice in Wonderland goes, now THAT is something else. We all know that the original text was written by the infamous Lewis Carroll. What many people may not know though is that it was recently discovered that Carroll was "under the influence" of certain drugs while writing it. Disney definitely did an interesting job of making it more kid-friendly. However, if you look at each scene, you can still see some moments where it makes sense that Carroll was...um...well, how do I put this? Uhh...loopy? Heh, God I loved being a lit. major!

You dont have to tell me I'm right.

Your recent iPhone purchase does that for you.:thumbsup2

I'm going to come in on the side of
Leave My Princess Alone!

I love Sleeping Beauty - I agree that she doesn't show much personality in the movie (with all that sleeping!), but you can't beat a prince that fights a dragon for you! What does Snow White's prince do? Show up?
