Like any sport--the better equipment costs more money. But it is only as good as the person using it.
My DH has a specially drilled ball as he throws a curve (looks like it is heading to the gutter and then hooks towards center). He has thrown a 300 once in his life and in league this weekend, he had strikes through the 8th frame and then fell apart. Ouch! His HC is 10 pins compared to my 103 HC.
The ball I have was from a bowling league 10 years ago where you got a ball for beign in the league. So I used the balls from the alley until I got my free ball. It included drilling. And the bag. It was a Nascar league, so my ball and bag are Dale Earnhardt. (Black with the #3).
Still very comfortable--but again, I'm not buying another ball b/c I'm not all that good anyway.
My running shoes costs over $100 though.
