Bowling Balls... seriously?

Like any sport--the better equipment costs more money. But it is only as good as the person using it.

My DH has a specially drilled ball as he throws a curve (looks like it is heading to the gutter and then hooks towards center). He has thrown a 300 once in his life and in league this weekend, he had strikes through the 8th frame and then fell apart. Ouch! His HC is 10 pins compared to my 103 HC.

The ball I have was from a bowling league 10 years ago where you got a ball for beign in the league. So I used the balls from the alley until I got my free ball. It included drilling. And the bag. It was a Nascar league, so my ball and bag are Dale Earnhardt. (Black with the #3).

Still very comfortable--but again, I'm not buying another ball b/c I'm not all that good anyway.:lmao:

My running shoes costs over $100 though.

The big deal at the place we used to bowl was that you could have pizza delivered rigth to your lane. I could never imagine eating "finger food" in between turns touching all those germs:sick:

Oh, that's just really gross. Blargh!

And about expensive sports -- Ice skating. A good pair of skates costs at LEAST $300, you need to get them sharpened every two weeks, the lessons are terribly expensive, you need private ice time, a practice dress... It's terrible.

My DS decided to try out for bowling in 8th grade (a few years ago) because it was "between" basketball and track season and he wanted something to do.

A week or two in he decided on not only a regular bowling ball but also a SPARE BALL!! I never knew you needed a different ball just to pick up the spare!

Now, I'm sure many people will say you don't need a spare ball. He loved his season and did well and I enjoyed watching this new-to-our-family sport.

I guess we put into sports what we expect to get out of sports. We spend tons of money on our kids and golf; but the money is spent on the right things and it has paid off for them.

Yep, I forgot about that one. Another one I forgot about was tennis lessons and court time daily to practice.

I bought DH a Hammer Black Widow last Christmas (or the year before) for $175. I cringed at the thought, but he is so hard to buy for that I sucked it up and bought it. I think the last time we bought balls they were under $100 apiece (1989-90).

A little side note to this topic...

About 5 years ago DH and I saw a Monsters Inc. Mike Wazowsky bowling ball in DTD at the sports shop. Yes, a lime green bowling ball that looked just like Mike's big eye! I have no clue how much it was, but if I bowled I would pay anything for that! It was SO cool and made me want to take up bowling ASAP! :rotfl:

I have looked for it again and haven't seen it since. :sad1:

DD and I were on a Disney bowling league years ago and she has the Mike ball. It was included for a fee by participating in the league. Her friend might still have the 8lb. I don't think she ever used it.

seriously....$25 for one hour of entertainment for three people is expensive??

I don't think so.
