I (a female) have no problem w/ James Bond, although I prefer old versions, not necessarily current ones. Bourne is big in this household, kids & husband love those movies, along with what they call "Bourne in Space" - Martian.
I like the older Bonds and I like Bourne too. And I like them because they are different. The Daniel Craig Bond I can take it or leave it. Why make it more like Bourne? We already have a Bourne.
In our household, we like both. I like the action in the Bourne movies, but it is so HARD to hear the dialog in those movies. I feel like I have to turn the volume way up to hear what they're saying in the Bourne movies.
Always felt like the Bourne movies (as well as many other copycats) were an effort to profit on the Bond popularity. However, the newer Bond movies seem to have gotten away from the original concept where he was trying to save the world from various bad guys. Lately, they seem more about some villain going after Bond or his agency which really wasn't the original point of that series.
Over the years various actors have played Bond and done a good job, but mostly they changed who it was since they had gotten older and aged out of the role.
Was a fan of The Bourne Identity. The subsequent movies were good but not great.
I think the beauty of Bond is that you've got 5 (ok, 6) actors who brought their own style to the role, and maybe 4 distinct styles of Bond movies, so it's not that difficult to find a version that speaks to you.
The only Bond movies I like are with Craig. The older ones, and even Pierce films, were too gimmicky for me. The writing got much better and while still unbelievable not ridiculous.
