I keep seeing these two things brought up, but haven't a clue what they mean...
Could someone please clue me in.

What is the "bounceback?"

And what is the 40% discount card everyone is getting and why didn't I get one?

Bounceback is a promotion that Disney sometimes offers to its current resort guests to get them to come back for a future trip. There is usually a flyer in your resort room that says to qualify for a discount for a return trip for certain dates or a set date range, you must call reservations during your stay from the phone in your room. We got the free dining promotion last September for our next trip in Sept. 08 by doing this. The bounceback that is currently being offered is for about 20-40% off rack room rates depending upon the resort, and I believe there is also one for packages as well.

As far as why you didn't receive a 40% discount card, well, that is the million dollar question around here. There has been all kind of speculation as to why some get them and why others don't. But don't feel bad as not everyone gets them. I haven't gotten one in a long time. I was told last year that there was a pin attached to my name, but that it had expired. I never received a card or an email either, so I never knew it was there. That's why some on the DIS say to call to check to see if there is a discount code with a PIN attached to your name because you're not always notified.

So if you stay at one of the resorts, are you ASSURED to be offered the bounceback option, or is that just a luck of the draw thing? Is it a room discount? Would they discount be good for any time period, or only certain ones?

Disney doesn't always offer the bounceback promotion. You just have to be there when they do offer it to take advantage of it. They also only offer it for set dates or in our case, a date range. It started sometime in August (can't remember the exact date) through September 27. Even if they don't have the flyer in your room (I've heard they don't always advertise this in every resort), if you are staying at a Disney resort and it is available while you're there, you should be able to take advantage of this offer. Now it is based on availability, so not all resorts might not have the discount. I've heard that it is a room or package discount. Ours was a package because you have to have a package for the free dining.

Does anyone think there will be a Bounceback offered in late April to return sometime in July?

Thanks

No, I don't think they will, because July is a busy month in which they usually don't have to offer discounts. But you never know for sure. If they do, it would probably be very limited.

That hasn't been done previously.
In the past the Bounce Back offers were in Fall (Nov/Dec of 2006) for free dining the following year (Aug/Sept of 2007). In 2007 they did a Free Dining Bounce Back for people who stayed in September to return in September 2008. That offer changed to the 30% room discount in October and ran through December, maybe even into January. Those discounts were valid for different dates throughout 2008 but resort availability was limited. I think I tried 3 or 4 resorts before I booked Beach Club because nothing was available for my dates in August. We were at WDW in December so we were eligible to book Bounce Back for 2008.
