Thank you!!! I love this board.

I have a tortishell kitty (black/brown/tan/orange) with green eyes. I have a Canon S3 IS. Well, this camera more than ANY other camera (digital or 35mm) always gives green glowing possessed eye shots of Splash when using flash, no matter what I did.

LOVE THE CAMERA OTHERWISE!

I've read here to try a bounce flash....but I didn't know what that meant. Then JR00064 explained.

So, tonight, I FINALLY got some non-glowing eye shots of Splash. I simply took a white index card & held it under flash at about 45 degree angle when taking the picture. Enough to bounce the flash off the card instead of going directly at the kitty. But not so much at a steep angle to block the flash.

NOW ADDING INDEX CARD TO CAMERA BAG.

It means so much to me since she's 18 & has kidney disease. I have HOPE of some nice pictures before she's too sickly looking. THANK YOU!!!! :goodvibes

BTW, I tried the tissue in front of the flash trick (even crumpled up tissue) to diffuse the flash, but that didn't work. But great tip I'll save for other shots. :thumbsup2

Prior to this, the only other trick that worked most times, was to shoot wide & off center. Then I would have to crop the photo so she was centered. But that limited the focus options.

Not relevant to photography, but I had a tortoise shell cat named splash also. what a coincedence.

That's so cool!!!!! Here's my Splash. This is an OLDER PHOTO -- different camera. She's really not so orange though. Sorry so large.

I'm glad you got some good photos of Splash, she looks like a sweet girl! Share some photos if you can, we love cats. :)

Thanks! I am going to try that this weekend.
I have trouble with green kitty eyes with my cat, Herbie.
I do have some white index cards around, I'll give it a try.

So you hold the index just under the flash with a slight angle?

Take a look at these 2 sites....and play around with it. It really does take some fussing with.

I'm going to try some of these other ideas...and see how they work out. I have a pop-up flash on my camera.
