Boulder Ridge - a good value?

My wife and I finally took the plunge and are in the process of buying our first DVC contract at Boulder Ridge (we are currently waiting on ROFR). For us, Boulder Ridge seemed like a good value in terms of the price per point. I understand there is a much shorter contract expiration than some of the other resorts, but we were willing to sacrifice the contract length for the great location (a short boat ride to MK), beautiful lodge, and excellent restaurants.

That being said, I've noticed when people talk about "bang for your buck" resorts, Boulder Ridge rarely comes up, whereas people consistently mention OKW, SSR, and AKL. Besides the contract length, is there a reason that Boulder Ridge does not typically come up as a good value purchase?

I'm not rethinking our decision in any way, I was just curious about peoples' thoughts on it as a good "bang for your buck."

I love Wilderness Lodge. One of my top three resorts at WDW. However when recently deciding on where to purchasing via DVC resale I quickly marked BRV off of the list due to the short contract life(which isn't an issue for you) and the fact that the cost per nights are fairly high for, and this is my opinion only, "what it is". If neither of those bother you purchase away! There are some great BRV contracts out there for under 100 right now.

I bought resale at BRV. Love it. I am a studio person, and would take BRV over CCV in a heartbeat for that reason alone.

Sure the life is shorter, but I can buy something else in 2042 (if I am alive)

however, BRV does tend to be easier to get then a lot of other places at 7 months, and the dues are on the high side.

I certainly do not regret my choice one bit.

I hope you join our VWL thread!

The VWL has changed since we bought in 2003, and I do miss the Springs Pool. However, I just love the ambiance of the DVC villa, and even when I am not staying there, I often bring my friends over to eat at Roaring Fork, or sit by a fireplace and chat. It’s my favorite place to write Christmas cards!

December is my favorite time to stay there, and I’ll be staying there with friends this year. We avoided staying there for the years they were building CCV cabins, but we have since stayed in a cabin, and that experience was excellent! We were lucky to have this lake view from our VWL one bedroom last December.

We bought VWL (now BRV) during construction. We haven't stayed there as much as we have stayed at OKW, but we still love it. We used to live in Montana and liked to go to Yellowstone. VWL and WL reminds us of those days.

We purchased VWL/BRV while it was being built. It's one of our DVC Holdings that we use exclusively for the 11 month booking window for multiple rooms each Thanksgiving week for our "Clan of 12". Absolutely love spending Thanksgiving each year here with our family.

We purchased a 200 point resale BRV contract in 2016 for $80 a point. BRV is our favorite resort and since I’m 51 and the hubby is 60 the shorter contract is really no issue for us. We also Love the boat ride to the MK and to the Contemporary for the monorail. Definitely no regrets.

It's just a contract length thing. With only 23 years left, vs. 35 for SSR, Boulder Ridge would have to be only about 2/3 of the price to make it an equal "value" using those sorts of calculations.
This does not at all mean that the resort is less than worthy of being considered a great deal, just that the per year dollar cost goes up too much compared to others to be considered cheap.

Another BRV resale buyer (bought last year) with no regrets- we got a great deal, we love the Wilderness Lodge and we like that the studios sleep 5. Best long term financially? no but we will have 24 years of enjoyment.

Way back in early 2000's my wife and I were looking at Boardwalk and OKW. We weren't sold until we walked through the doors of Wilderness Lodge and knew we were "HOME". I'll be 75 in 2042 and my oldest son will be 42. He can decide where his next DVC will be.

We don’t own at BRV, but enjoy it a great deal. We purchased OKW in 1992 and BLT in 2009. We love them both as well. We actually never even visited WL until this year for some strange reason (off the “beaten path”?—-actually part of its charm!), but DH is hooked. I think he’d like to purchase there as well although I don’t dare even ask! 😉. If we didn’t already own at 2 DVC properties, I think we’d be very tempted.
