and a few other things... just trying to get everything ready so as not to have a last minute rush... plus, by buying disney $s i won't be tempted to dip into my vacation cash stash!

i do have a question... does anyone know the park price of the spinner things (shaped like a charachter, you squeeze a trigger (or buzz lightyear's leg) and it lights up and spins little discs around)? tds had them today but they were dirty and scratched and some did not work (needed new batteries the cm said), others were chipped/broken... one was marked $2.50 and for that price it was worth getting "less than perfect" but when i went to the register the cm said they are $12.50... for *that* price they may not be worth getting in that condition, kwim? unless of course they are like $25 at the parks... then i should have bought them...

thanks...

Could someone help me understand Disney Dollars?

Are they just basically like having travelers cheques or actual dollars? Can you use them anywhere in WDW? Restaurants, stores, etc... Even at the resort food courts? I think I should get some because I have the tendency to dip into my fund too. Can you buy them at the Disney Store? Thanks :) :)

disney dollars are as good as american currency at disney resorts, parks, food courts, restaurants, disney stores, you name it... if you can spend money there, disney dollars are acceptable there... they come in three denominations $10, $5 and $1 and they look and feel like money w/a disney flair (i.e. mickey instead of george washington!)... they are not "safe" like travellers' checks, and yes, you can buy them at a disney store, at disney resort check-in desks, and in the parks at various places...

they are a great deterrent to someone like me who is constantly tempted to "borrow" from her vacation money especially 'cause i am not so good at paying myself back!

I think I may go buy some tomorrow :) I also have been known to dip into my Disney jar too frequently and not pay myself back

I just emptied my change jar today, took it to Commerce Banks "Penny Arcade" (Change counter) - it totalled $97.16!! Then we drove to the Disney Store & immediately exchanged it for Disney Dollars !! If I have cash on hand it WILL be spent so Disney Dollars are safer for me to have around!! I have around 95 days or so left to go so I figure I can easily get about another $100 this way - I usually use that as souvenier $ for the kids. Plus it's more FUN than cash!!

If you are able to go off site during your trip to WDW, the Character Corner in the Buena Vista Outlet Mall seems to always have some type of light spinner cheaper than the parks. A couple years ago I got the ones that spell different messages for less than $5. Last month they had Pooh and Buzz, but I don't remember the price.

thanks all for the answers to the light spinner questions... i am thinking that i might just buy those wands w/the plastic filaments that light up thru oriental trading... much less expensive and although no character, i am sure my kids will "adjust!" ;o)

I just decided before I read this to empty my jar and start over again. Take what I have and get Disney Dollars when I am at the mall on Tuesday.

I also have a 5.00 Pinecone check that needs to be transformed into Disney Dollars.
