DH and I went to a DVC appointment on Monday while we were vacationing at DW. We decided to buy at 220 points at BLT. Yes, it was $130 a point. They matched our 220 points so we are starting at 440 points and gave us $3200 cash back. We paid cash for it..no financing. I am now having second thoughts! Did we do the right thing etc....

We have 3 kids and have been to DW 6x since 2002 and seem to gravitate towards Disney and the extra room seems like a bonus.

My husband says no regrets but I am not so sure. Seems like a lot per point but I didn't know about resale etc........

Guess I am just looking for reassurance :confused3

Did you like BLT? Do you want to stay there?

If your answer yes to both of those questions than don't worry.

If you don't like BLT, don't want to stay there, then maybe worry a little.

We have a DD4 and recently stayed at AKV.....loved the resort but hated not being on the monorail. So we're very happy BLT is our home.

It seems like a lot of money to me, but if you can afford to pay cash and are not in any debt, then why not?

Enjoy it. I wish I had purchased sooner. I just purchased this year and I knew about timeshares.

It sounds like you don't have an immediate need for the points, you are able to pay cash and now you know about the resale market. I'd recommend cancelling the contract and taking a look at resale. If you don't find anything then you can call your guide back later and do the purchase later since the price you paid didn't have any extraordinary incentive. I believe you could save yourself several thousand dollars and still purchase BLT or save even more with a purchase at another resort.

Congratulations! Welcome Home!

If you read these boards and search for regrets the only one you will come across is that almost everyone agrees they should have bought SOONER.

Enjoy the time you have with your children while they are young it goes by very quickly. Never look back just look forward to the future, you will cherish the vacation memories you will be creating forever.

WELCOME HOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:thumbsup2

Congratulations and WELCOME HOME!

Never look back. Only look forward. You have many years of exciting times ahead with your family at a FABULOUS resort.

I think it really depends on how much you want to own at BLT. If you really want to own there and have the 11 month home resort advantage there, then you simply paid the going rate for what you want. Congrats and enjoy!

If you bought at BLT simply because that is what Disney was pushing and you were tempted by the "incentives", then maybe you'd might want to step back and take a look at other options first.

If you just want to own DVC and don't feel like it has to be BLT, you can get 220 point contracts on the resale market for between $50 and $75 per point, depending on the resort. This means you could have potentially spent $13k less for the same amount of points. $13k will buy a lot of passes or tickets. :) Many resale contracts also come with "current" year points as well as banked points.

If you are the kind of people who don't research before you buy and you are well off financially, you honestly don't care where you stay at WDW and don't get disappointed when you don't get what you want, then go for it.

Otherwise you might want to rethink your decision, cancel your contract and spend some time checking things out before you buy.

The majority of people who buy at Disney or while on a cruise, do so because they got caught up in the emotion of buying Disney. :cloud9:

I know that after our presentation I felt like I had cheated my family out of years of enjoyment and that I was a bad father for not buying earlier or right then. :sad2:

Disney is very good at marketing!

I know how great the salesman are at selling the magic and emotion of Disney. Then logic and reason hit when you get home! Do what makes you happy! Welcome home. Good luck with your decision!!

:) DH and I purchased 210 points at AKV in 2009 for $93 direct and we financed. We are going on our third and fourth trips in 2011. We have not looked back and have absolutely no regrets. Everyone does things differently. For some it is owning expensive boats, cars or say, hunting equipment. For us it was DVC. Did we spend a lot of maney to do it this way? Sure, but it is all relative and worth it to us. The important thing was DH supported me in the purchase and now is just as hooked as I am..:cutie:

Our last two trips to AKV have been fantastic....truly fantastic. How Disney gets us to Africa so quickly amazes me every trip. :cloud9:

What is your use year?

Couldn't agree more. Do the math however you want, but you (like me and a lot of others) paid the going retail rate. If BLT is where you want to stay, you'll be happy that you have the 11 month window to book.

Welcome home neighbor! We just finally did a walkthrough of BLT's rooms last week and will stay there next October.

We absolutely paid the going rate for the 11 month window. Wanted to be sure we could get standard view rooms there and not have to shell out the points on a LV or MKV room. While MKV would be great, the premium in points is :scared1:.

Hope to see you on the monorail soon.

Agreed with the others. If you really want BLT, then with the cash back and being able to book right away, no closing costs, etc., then it's a good deal to buy direct. The resale market for BLT isn't that big yet, and going for $100/pt. Not that much of a savings when you consider closing costs and your cash back.

Congratulations and :welcome: Home

I went through the same buyers remorse when we bought. DW, never had remorse. Looking back now, it's one of the best Disney related decisions we've made.
In hindsight, we have some regrets not buying DVC sooner. However, walking to MK, lake activity, and the monorail reminds us it was the right choice for us.
