WDW has these great new panoramic posters of the park now. There is one for each of the four major parks. I bought the MK one. It looks like the view you get when you first get to Main Street in the MK. You can see the castle in the center, and the surrounding stores on both sides. It really is beautiful, and a bargain at 25. The only problem is that I did not want to pay to have them frame it, and it is like 13.5 x 40. I do not want the expense of having it custom framed. I tried my local craft stores-Michaels & Pearl, but the only option they have that would be large enough is a do-it-yourself thing where they sell the frame sides and you have to put it together. I have never done this before, nor would I know where to get the plexi. I would love to get this on my wall, but sadly, can not find any frame (off the shelf) bigger than 36". I checked ebay, and there was a seller with a 13.5 x 39 frame, but of course that's too small. Is there any place I am not thinking of? I'd like to keep the cost at 50. or under.
Thanks!

Do you have a Rag Shop by you? I've had things framed there and was always able to use a coupon. They often have 50% off coupons for certain hours i.e, early morning or late at night. I have always been satisfied with thier work.

Hi there,

Congrats on your poster purchase. I bought one myself on my most recent trip to WDW so I'm in the same boat as you. I got the Splash Mountain attraction poster. It's the same one hanging on the wall at the gift shop of the ride.

I believe it's 36' X 46' so taking it somewhere to get framed would probably be really expensive. If I come across any deals when I get mine framed, I'll make sure to post and let you know.

is there a link that shows all of these that are available??

I was at Wal Mart today and they had some really large poster frames there, but I don't know the exact dimensions or cost, I'm afraid. I was looking at smaller frames, but you may want to check your local store.

Some ideas-
Our local Michael's and Joann's always have 50% off coupons for framing and matting. I'd have them give you an estimate, perhaps it wouldn't be as expensive as you are thinking. I had 2 prints done by them (19 1/2x40 and 19x42) matted, framed, and used the anti-reflective glass that was more expensive. The total for both was 114.

Ask when you are there if they will sell the plexi you need to finish off one of the "off the shelf" frame side. If they won't a local home improvement or hardware store will have the plexi and cut it for you. It will be cheaper than them doing it, especially if you use their coupons to purchase all the materials.

To make the frame from the individual sides is fairly simple. There are brackets to attach in each of the four corners. You'll just need a screwdriver.

If you decide to frame it yourself and you'd like some more tips, just PM me.

I've matted & framed a couple of the posters. I need to take some pictures of them. I bought open frames at Hobby Lobby at 50% off, the plexiglass at Home Depot, and the mats at Hobby Lobby and cut them myself. I do have the advantage of having a mat cutter but you could have them cut the mats only at almost any store and they aren't too expensive if you don't have them do the entire frame.

The advantage of matting is that it gives a very finished look but also lets your picture fit almost any frame. I'd just keep looking for the perfect frame and when you find it work on the rest.

I bought my frame for a poster I bought at Disney at Target. I think it was $20. Not sure if it was the same dimensions as yours, since mine was the Mickey R2D2 one from Star Wars Weekends

I was at JoAnn's today and bought a couple of clearance frames. They were 50% off so very inexpensive, really looked like ones they had custom made but for whatever reason were extra. I know Hobby Lobby also sometimes has these in their clearance section. You might take a look there.

The mat boards at Hobby Lobby are 42x32 so as long as the frame is 42 or less you can cut the mat to the size of the picture.

This is going to sound odd, but I recently had pics of my 5 children taken and wanted to do something interesting with them. I got some old window that had been removed some time ago from a friends basement. I used a fine wool to sand the old paint down until it was smooth, cleaned the glass and made a backing with poster board and drew ribbon tightly across the posterboard to hold it together then stapled it.
This window happens to have 6 panes of glass in it so in the middle i found a terrific picture at micheals craft store that has the same distressed look about it as the coloring.

Everyone raves about the picture when they come to my house.
My digital camera should be here in a few days, {that i bought for my trip :) I would be happy to take a shot of it for you.

Maybe this idea could work for your poster.

Do you have an IKEA near you? We bought a poster from WDW and found a large selection of frames there at a reasonable price.

I feel your pain (I know how expensive it is to have those frames custom made). I once bought a beautiful watercolor print of the WL. I did not want to pay the $$ to have it custom framed. So I measured it and went to a local gifty type store (Kirklands). I found the perfect matting and frame. I paid about $30 for it and it could not have been more perfect. The only down side was that I had to actually purchase the picture that was inside of the matting and frame. The picture was dogs playing poker. I was so embarrassed :smooth: .

That's my best suggestion....find a framed print that you like the frame on and use that. Our Garden Ridge (if you have those) have prints on sale all the time cheap with some really good frames.
