Bought a condo in FL; can we get a resident ticket discount?

Could you explain the Florida ID cards please? That sounds like something we should get. I know the car we bought to keep at the Florida home will be licensed in Florida. Thank you, Kathy

I didn't know about the difference in Florida AP's. This is good to know. Thank you, Kathy

Yes, it was a valid question. DH & I were talking about it last night & he said I should ask "the DIS".

I now know the rules & requirements. We will not be able to get a resident pass at this point. It will be quite a few years before we do as we're not that close to retirement - especially with 3 kids entering college this fall!

That's OK though - I still get my DVC discount! I have no reason to try & get around the residency rules & regulations.

Go to the Florida DMV site and apply for Florida ID cards. That is what we did, but we have lived in Florida before so maybe that made it easier:confused3
Still, you can get ID cards with your address down there.

Thank you! I will pass this info on to my husband Dave. We will be going down for a 10 day stay in a few weeks. We need to send our baby off to college first! Hard to believe we will be empty nesters soon. Kathy

I really think this depends on what county you live. We own a condo in Sarasota (not a timeshare, a condo) and when we tried to get FL ID's (hubby called DMV and talked to someone about this) he was told that we could NOT get FL ID's unless we homesteaded in FL. Unfortunately for us, we have not been able to sell our home in Michigan yet, so it doesn't work out financially for us to change to homesteading in FL at this time. Hubby tried to explain to the person on the phone that we weren't looking to get driver's licenses, just FL ID's. He was told that wasn't possible, even though he told them we would bring in the tax statement, copy of mortgage, whatever they needed.

Anyway, we're still looking into this as I write this, as we have friends who own a condo in another county in FL and had no problem walking into their local DMV and getting FL ID's. All they had to do was show a copy of their tax bill. Go figure.

We haven't been on the board lately due to buying a townhouse in Champions Gate -- 10 min. southwest of Disney on I 4. We were told we could be considered for the Florida rates but this was by the people selling us the townhouse and they said we needed to check into it in case that info had changed. We still have not checked into it but we are also DVC members and we get our AP's with our DVC discount.

It is my understanding that the Florida AP's have black out dates. Is this true? If yes, it would make sense to keep your DVC AP with no black out dates. When we are at our house it will be during the prime times such as holidays. I could be wrong about the black out dates.

Eventually we will be moving to Florida full time but it will be between 5 to 10 years before that happens. *I didn't believe it was such a short drive to Disney's World Drive and it was true! Champions Gate is a gated community located in the city limits of Davenport. It is where the Omni hotel is located. When we drive to Disney we pass the wonderful Mickey power tower!

Kathy

The seasonal passes do have blackouts, not the regular annual passes.

however, as a resident with a seasonal, why bother going during the summer (main blackout). Its hot, crowded, and I can take my time the rest of the year when its less packed, and cooler.

I just moved to Florida from New York...
Getting a Florida license..or an ID card..is not as easy as you may think.
And..Disney....did just stop requiring one to buy an annual pass...as it is very hard to get the I.D.
In order to get a license or ID card[same qualifications]
I had to show.....
birth cert.
s.s. CARD..not just the number
marriage license
NY license[they cut the corner of the bar code off]
warranty papers for the house
electric..or gas or garbage bill...
so..getting the id is tough..
but,you can get an AP...with proof of home ownership..as the rules have recently changed

If you go to the locked sticky Everything About WDW Tickets in this Forum, especially Post #3 and #4, you can get a lot more information about Annual Passes and Florida Residents. An easy way to get to the sticky is by clicking on the link in my signature.

And an earlier post in this thread I posted an excerpt from Disney's Official Rules on Florida Resident Identifiaction.

Yes you will. That's what it seems like (otherwise why would Mike have put in the info about part-time residents?)

These are the official rules:

For Part-Year Residents the following original documents are acceptable.

Must have a driver's license or state photo ID card from another state, or a non-US Passport and at least one of the following items which does show a Florida address:

* Proof of Rent, Mortgage or Ownership such as a Deed, mortgage, monthly mortgage statement, mortgage payment booklet or residential lease.

* Current homeowner's insurance policy or bill, current automobile insurance policy or bill or current utility bill.

* Statement from a financial institution showing checking, savings, credit card or investment information or mail from a Federal or Florida State, County or City government agency.

Note that fax and photocopies are not acceptable, that bills and mail cannot be more than two months old, that PO Box addresses are not allowed, and items related to TimeShares are not permitted.

Since you own a place, should be simple to show the proof of mortgage, or homeowner's insurance policy, utility bill, etc...and it says a license or ID from OUT of state.

Since DH and I merely own a timeshare (DVC), we canNOT say we're residents or even part-time residents. But YOU can!

OK - thanks. I'll reread the info he has & check out the link in his siggie.

I believe CF has posted on this issue before but Florida used to give out of state part time residents id cards but no more.

With the new federal guide lines "real id act" (?) You no longer can have two official state id's. So I think Disney added extra items that can be used as proof like a rental agreement.

You can buy premium resident APs with NO blackout dates, or buy the cheaper ones with the blackout dates. We don't buy APs, but have bought and used the shorter term Florida tickets.

"Premium" was I think a poor choice of words. Florida residents have their own price schedule for both the standard Annual Pass and the Premium Annual Pass (with water parks, DQ, etc. included) (the standard AP is about $20 cheaper than the DVC cost, and the premium is only $5 cheaper)

Florida Residents also have three other "annual" (as in duration) passes, but they don't have all the perks of the APs:

Seasonal Pass: Good all year except certain blackout dates
Weekday Select Pass: Good only on weekdays and not during blackout dates
Epcot After 4:00 Pass: Good only at Epcot, for entrance after 4pm.

FL Residents also have discounts on MYW tickets up to 7 days in length, cheaper options, and the 3- and 4-day tickets have extended expirations as well.
