Hi DISers!

Please help, I have a friend that is sailing out of PC and she has already done 2 sailings from LA (west coast) When she sailed from LA she was able to bring a case of water on board via the porters, Is she able to do the same at PC? Thank you for your time! :cool1:

She is able to carry on any amount of water she wants - she will have to tote it around until her room is available. The water from the fountains and spigot is perfectly good however, and I wouldn't bother with bottled water. I just returned from a cruise Friday.

The water onboard the ship is processed the same as most bottled waters (reverse osmosis and filtered). That's ALL water, making ice, preparing food, from the tap in your room, in the swimming pool, at the drink station. Really no need to bring bottled water onboard. We just bring our refillable water bottle and fill up in our room. More environmentally friendly that way, also.

If she must bring it onboard, she must carry it onboard. Beverages cannot be checked.

We're fussy about drinking water (our town's water was named one of the best in the state) and we have been very satisfied with the water on the Fantasy, Magic, and Wonder. Haven't sailed on the Dream yet.

Can she check it as a piece of luggage to be taken to her room vs. carrying it onbooard?

It doesn't have to do with the water quality aboard the ship, its mostly for excursions and what not.

Thanks

No. From the DCL website:

•Beverages must be packed in your carry-on bag—which must not exceed 22 inches wide, 14 inches high and 9 inches deep in dimension
https://disneycruise.disney.go.com/planning-center/my-cruise-plans/faqs/preparing-for-your-cruise/alcohol-onboard-policy/

If she brings her own refillable bottle onboard, she can fill it up and carry it on excursions. That's what we do.

She must carry it on board. She can also by bottled water on the ship. Go to the gift section and you can pre order and have it your stateroom when you arrive in your room.

So Different from The West Coast twice in Los Angeles in 2 staterooms we were able to check a case per stateroom, must be due to florida being a non union state? :confused3 Ok i will let her know

I doesn't have to do with west coast/east coast or CA/FL. I has to do with the cruiseline. Some cruiselines allow beverages to be checked through. DCL requires that it be carried on.

So why allowed twice in 2011 and 2012 in Los Angeles?

Did the rules change?

No, the rules has always been there. The porters, who do not work for DCL, just don't abide by it because they want your money.

And damage caused by someone breaking the rules will be the responsibility of that someone.

Further, continued ignoring of the few rules DCL puts on carrying on drinks, could lead to them taking away that perk.

I'm just curious, but does anyone have a reason why the porters will accept water and not alcohol? The porters will not just take anything as has been said, so I'm curious why the double standard?

The porters will take just about anything, regardless of DCL rules. The porters' job is to take your checked luggage, making sure it's tagged, and prepare it for boarding. DCL security would then be responsible for flagging anything not allowed; passengers do receive notice that a checked item (or item in a checked bag) has been pulled and will be held at port to be retrieved after the cruise. Porters work basically for tips; if they refuse to accept something, they jeopardize the tip amount. That doesn't make it right, but that seems to be the situation.

As previously stated, if beverages in checked luggage break or leak and damage other passengers' belongings, the passenger who checked the beverages will be responsible. Checked luggage is not handled gently.

Enjoy your cruise!

When we arrived at the port, the porters actually suggested and encouraged us to get a case of bottle water. We declined because we didn't want to bother with it, and we took our refillable insulated bottles with us. The water was excellent onboard the Fantasy. But when the porters make such an offer, it is easy to understand why many would think it's OK to send a case of water. It's not obvious to most people (who are excited and focused only on getting on the ship as quickly as possible) that the porters are not Disney employees.
