Bothered by rude smoker at Poly pool

I just think of the poor CMs having to deal with situations like this, and more. CMs for the most part are in their early 20s. I can only imagine how hard it is for them to have to deal with many of the guests and the problems they encounter.

But I agree that there has to be a way to enforce the stated policy for the safety of others especially around a pool. I hate it when some people who do smoke drop their cigarette on the ground where children and adults are barefooted.

That's just another example of the saying "Money doesn't buy class" - and I'm assuming the guy has money if he's staying at the Poly!

Disnut8 hit the nail on the head with the statement about people with the "Me Attitude". In my 3 trips to WDW as an adult with children, that is the MAIN thing I have noticed over the years: the decline in the behavior of the guests, whether it's how they dress (or undress), use foul language, smoke in restricted areas, push and shove in lines, or run over you with strollers.

I have not allowed these kinds of people to ruin my vacation, but I'm not sure if and when I'll go back to WDW in the future. If I do, it will definitely be in a slow season, when at least there are fewer of them to deal with!

What can they really do in a situation like this? Any ideas? Just curious.

Couldn't they (bartender/pool personnel) get a manager involved and get his room number, then fine him specific to the "no smoking policy agreement" that was signed at check-in. Wouldn't that apply to this situation? I believe the form I signed states a fine of $250.00 if found smoking outside of DSA's or does it only apply to smoking in rooms or on balconies. We are not smokers, so didn't pay much attention to it, just signed it.

If Disney is going to the trouble of making written policies that need to be signed at check in, why wouldn't they enforce them.:confused3

Well, unfortunately nothing I think. Personally as a mom of two little kids, It drives me nuts when people smoke in public areas- period. But I can't run around and say stop smoking around my kids-I have to steer clear of it as a nonsmoker. Should I have to walk past a cloud of smoke to get to the mall or a restaurant? No. And that always pisses me off, but I deal with it. What drives me nuts is the ones that smoke in the parks in heavy foot traffic, say leaving Wishes--I am afraid they could burn someone.
My thing is if you want to smoke, fine but it better not impede my enjoying myself-since it is a rule--follow it and smoke in the #*()#*! designated area!

If I offended any smokers--sorry but that's how I feel when I (and my babies)have to breath in your smoke! :headache:

That was very eliquently stated 2002Disneybride and i agree with 100% of your comments. I actually got up from my chair and gave you a "you're damn straight" shout out.:thumbsup2

I hate smoke and do NOT want my DD2 exposed to that carcinogen. Why do smokers have to go and spread their disease amongst everyone else?! Do it in a designated smoking place, i mean, are you that addicted that you can't find a smoking area to get your nicotine fix?!

If the guest refuses to comply and becomes arrogant or resistive they can call security and have him removed from the property.

Hardly ever comes to that, when someone of authority approaches such guests, they usually lose all their bluff. They can also fine them and have that fine applied to their room bill.

As stated Disney is serious about this and will take action you just have to find the person with the authority to do so.

Another CM such as the bartender is not going to do this as truly it is not his job description. The guest is not going to comply to a bartender.

The on duty manager will have the authority to deal with the situation and is trained to do so.

If anyone has a serious problem with a smoker not abiding by the new smoking policy, you need to go to the Front Desk and ask to speak to the on duty Guest Services manager.

1) You could try this.
2) Usually it won't make a difference.
3) The Recreation Department does not report to the Guest Services Manager.
4) Ask the pool people (guard, bartender, etc) for the Recreation Manager.

I agree 100%. And in those heavily congested areas I HAVE been known to take a shot or two with my sports bottle. :rolleyes1

We honestly didn't notice a lot of people breaking the smoking rules at WDW. However, I think that Disney should definitely be enforcing the rules. For a CM to say that he can't do anything about it is just silly. Sure, they might not be the one to approach the smoker but I'm sure they can get in touch with the appropriate manager or whatever.

I agree 100%. WDW went to all this trouble of getting rid all the smoking rooms at each of their Resorts and etc which obvious cost money to do. So to have Cast Members not enforce this rule no matter where it's being broken at sounds wrong.

Once again I must post the reminder that the Resort board is not the place to debate the no smoking policy at WDW. If you care to debate the issue please start a thread on the community board.
