Both water parks open this summer?

We were at BB Sat of Presidents Day weekend to take advantage of the free check-in day and while the weather was pleasant, it certainly wasn't hot. I've only been to BB a couple of times, but I thought the crowd was pretty healthy. Not huge lines but definitely lines for everything. I really feel like once the scorching weather starts (May maybe?), the regular waterpark goers plus the guests taking advantage of the free check-in deal could easily overwhelm a single park especially in July/Aug. I think this seems like a bit of a shortsighted promotion if they keep it to one open waterpark at a time. Thoughts?

Both water parks typically are open during the year. It's only in the cooler "winter" time that they close one at a time to do necessary maintenance.

I wonder what the attendance was at the waterparks pre-covid...had it declined? Maybe the promotion is to rekindle the fun and love of the waterparks? Or was it just to draw some of the crowd away from the parks? I hadn't been to a waterpark in years, decades really. Never with my kids until we bought a DVC contract. I loved the waterparks as a teen, but I just thought they got so pricy, I didn't think we'd get the same enjoyment from that as we would from a second day in MK. When we went in April 2023 to TL for first time for my husband and 2 of my kids, the crowd was pretty low. It wasn't empty but there were very minimal lines. It wasn't very warm so that could have impacted attendance that day.

We'll be there during the week after Easter. They haven't updated the hours yet beyond I think April 2. Only TL has been open the last two trips we've had so I am a little extra hopeful that BB will be open when we're there. But we have a split stay and a taking my daughter's friend who has never been to either so it would be cool if we could get to both!

I agree! As the weather gets even warmer with this promotion ongoing, they would really need both waterparks open. I read recently on a Facebook group they had run out of parking space and people had to park somewhere else and bus over to the waterpark. We are planning to stop there first because we'll get to the area before check-in time anyway, but might have to rethink that if there's no parking.

I am questioning this 30th anniversary… I am sure I went to BB before 30yrs ago. I got married 30 yrs ago and my husband had never been to Disney at all then. 🤔🤔
Nope, it's correct. Typhoon Lagoon opened earlier, maybe 1987??? BB was April 1,1995.

Has Disney actually confirmed Blizzard Beach is closing after April 30? The Disney Parks Blog announcement vaguely refers to a transition from winter to tropical splash, but nothing I read explicitly stated that Blizzard Beach would be closing. It only said Typhoon Lagoon would be reopening on May 1. I have a trip late May/early June and I was really hoping for Blizzard Beach to be open. It's my favorite of the two water parks and I've not been there in over a decade!

They updated the calendar, it's closed after April 30.

pretty sure it was just to get people on property before check in time to spend $ on food and merchandise.
I'm sure they've done research into how many people arrive later in the day and figured it would be a good way to fill a park that may be lacking in attendance due to their crappy maintenance and get money while they're at it.
I can't see how having 1 water park open all summer with free attendance is going to work out.

Pricey? In 2019, a water park annual pass cost $130, or about two days admission. They haven’t sold annual passes since Covid, but after the summer you can buy a seasonal pass that’s good until the beginning of the next summer for $10 over the cost of a day’s admission.

The passes, discounted tickets and “water parks and more” ticket addons make them the biggest bargain at WDW.

Disney isn’t running this promo to be generous. They’re doing it because people wait around for their room until it’s ready, which is often late making them quite irritable. The water parks have capacity, so…

I doubt they’d offer the promo if they had to keep both parks open. They’re obviously not big money makers, evidenced by the promos and the fact that little investment has been put into them through the years.

The water parks do not make enough money for both parks to be open daily.
Labor for LIFE GUARDS, REG STAFF, TRANSPORTATION. is very high.
The first day ticket is a GREAT promotion but most guest will not take advantage due to travel issue (not getting to resort early enough)

before Covid both parks were open every year. We used to go to both each trip.
Disney have plenty of cash to open two water parks over summer.
